i got this on dvd. u should see the stairway to haven on this one fucking insane he switches from his 12 string right to his six string as soon as he hits the solo thats hard and when he was on his solo i caught when the string popped and its hard to improvise that well when ur on a solo that crazy
You just got to know what stings and frets to hit when a string breaks. It still requires some thinking though if you are used to playing on that string. I can't keep a high E string on my guitar. The last one lasted me a month though and that's a new record.
Guitar tone lesson: A lot of times guitarist J.P. picks the strings somewhere over treble pick up instead of the exact middle in between the pick ups. Like maybe the outer edge of it. Like at 4:32-?:?? during the solo. (Watch him closely to see where his pick positioned.) That's what gives those notes that distinct sound. Don't know how to describe the sound it creates but I'm sure you might know what I'm talking about here. Even when he plays the lower notes it has that "treblely" sound to it.
I guess it's like a "treblely" or "metallic" or "glassy" sound in the solo. (Maybe you have a better description for it than I do.) What that sound really is is the sound of the guitar pick hitting the strings on that spot of the guitar that I mentioned in the previous post. (I'm not sure how deep his pick goes in between the strings though or his guitar pick thickness which probably plays a role in the guitar tone as well.) Tone is a lot more than just effects pedals and crap.
I think Page's trebly tone has a lot to do with allegations of sloppy playing. When he plays runs on the lower strings, I can't really distinguish the sound. It seems to blend together.
Mainly, I think it's a combination of where and how he strums his pick, the treble setting on his wah wah pedal, and the sound on his amp but the sound on his amp probably plays a minor role when it comes to his treble sound.
Led Zeppelin's 1970 European Tour was a concert tour of Europe by the English rock band. The tour commenced on February 23 and concluded on March 12, 1970.
During this tour, the cover for the band's debut album met with controversy. At a 28 February 1970 performance in Copenhagen, the band was billed as "The Nobs" as the result of a threat of legal action from aristocrat Frau Eva von Zeppelin.
The sound is lacking low frequencies, isn't it ? I was pretty sure I found this version, which I prefer a lot to the "Stepped over by feet" one, with different sound track. Any clue ?
On the DVD, James Patrick's guitar isn't as loud. Either that or the other instruments were made louder. Which at the organ jam before the solo I can understand why. But still. I like The Nobs music better when it's raw and not remastered. Especially the song, "Zeus's First Stand" at the Knebworth '79 concert! They should have just left it alone when they put it on the DVD.
Led Zeppelin themselves the nobs when they toured Scandinavia because an insane german lady who was an ancestor of the guy who invented the Zeppelin was outraged at the "blasphemous use of her family's honorable name" or something to that effect, and pursued them, so the called themselves "the nobs", which may be a reference to genetalia.....
i think she was his wife or soemthing. She freaked out when she saw the 1st album cover which was the hindenburg explosion, and was abhorred that peope were seeing that disaster and relating it to what she called "a bunch of screaming monkeys"

I mean minor in comparison to the other two things. Amp sound still plays a role.

I've been thinking and I can understand why they did it. Because the drums aren't as loud in this video. Anyway, Love this song!

I love how Page throws in really low F'sinto all his solos. Like, this song is in G, and he does it at 4:29. He also does it in SIBLY and OTHAFA
