if youre interested in hendrix's rhythm stuff, there is another song called "move over let me dance", with tthe isley brothers. try to learn it note per note.

there is one single song, played live by the experience at the royal albert hall, which in my opinion summarizes all of hendrixs rythmic genius and his tricks, as well as his creativity while doing it with such fluency and naturality - this song is "lover man", the first half, up to the solo. Listen to it carefully and you'll be grooving along.

@sonicoclv55 well. Hendrix made the instrument the focal point of the music, whereas before it just accompanied the music.

Hendrix also invented blistering overdriven rock lead playing with total abandon and huge volume. Overnight every guitarist going cranked up the volume got bigger amps and it changed music radically. I'll let others add their bit.

The best way to be a good guitarist is to be an accomplished bassist first.

Worked for me. You can learn this Hendrix style easily by always using the 3rd as your lowest note in a chord. It just stacks up after that.

Example: Play a power chord in D. Instead of D being the lowest note, make the lowest note an F# on the A string (4 frets up) from the D. You'll still hold down the rest of the notes in the D power chord, as usual. Now you can play games with the notes in the chord.

Must point out that Hendrix's best rhythm playing was probably done - just using the thumb on his left-hand.

I cringe when I hear "Little Wing" played with a pick.

Also I'd like to point out that ir's very easy to slip into triplet-based playing when approaching Hendrix rhythm-parts.

Always be aware that he seldom played in triplets.

The drums yes. Guitar not - that's what made it great music.

Otherwise it turns into some plinky-plonky eastern european party music - not cool.

yeah its really just a standard chord progression, E, A and D major.. where he adds the pentatonic notes from each position outlining a melody.. instead of just playing the chord an 4 bars he creates a melody via the pentatonic ''box''
