  • without guys like gene K, lionel, buddy rich, there would be NO drummers today

  • holy shat

  • aww man kkep tha video goin!!!

  • I would have to sell my soul to have talent like that! Good stuff.

  • music...drums...listen and stop fighting...develop your own technique...master it and then someday people will listen to you.....

  • FULL VIDEO PLEAAAAAAASEEEEEEEE!!!!!!

  • I find it hilarious that most any drummer these days would praise these musicians for their technique, yet if any modern drummer on Youtube plays anything like this they're dislike bar looks like a fucking lightsaber. People say they like old shit just so people think that they're seasoned music aficionados, when in fact they never listen to this type of music in their free time. Drummers are sometimes the saddest type of musician.

  • @TheWALOS not all drummers mann, i've been playing for like 7 years and jazz/blues is by far my favorite style of playing, and i learn a ton of technical shit from watching old videos and listening to old tracks, its only a few drummers that sadly have their minds shut out to the classic shit

  • @TheWALOS shut up man to us drummers also belongs the jazz vibraphone!!

  • fwhat show is this from?

  • Stop hating on Travis, he's good at what he does and has acknowledged his roots in Jazz and has even said that he wants to retire as a jazz drummer. That being said, this video is awesome.

  • T.V. ratings bonanza - whatever the year.

  • they were all great drummers and people !

  • WTH They play it like a boss!!

  • negralidade jazzistica

  • Now this is a show

  • this is so good i like it better than those guys with 10000 cymbals and toms

  • :'D

  • Amazing!!!!!

  • HELL YEAH!

  • Nice

  • Man I love how many people think that it really matters if Travis fucking Barker is good or not. Jesus Christ. You wanna know what actually matters? If the music is good. Not if any one person is skilled or not at some instrument. All an instrument is is a way to make SOUND so that you can FEEL something. While you're wasting your time arguing about bullshit you could be listening to good music. So shut the fuck up.

  • @naturada137 absolutely correct

  • Awesome!

  • Barker's a faggot.

  • notice how Hampton is on the very bottom...

  • Gene Krupa didnt have great chops but his feel was unbelievable ... like the Ringo of Jazz drumming ... it just swings

  • пиздатое шоу! хочу дальше посмотреть!

  • Krupa is the King, always was, will always be!

  • why are people trying to convince jazz fans than travis barker is the best on a jazz video your not going to win

  • Lionel Hampton was a Beast on The Drums[before he went to Vibes & after] and sticks it to all the idiots today that think they can interpret Druims by all the videos out . Go back , AND GET DOWN AND EAT SOME STICKS FIRST...

  • I dont understand why anyone gives any attention to the immature retards that mention travis barker among the legends they're just trying to piss off old people and me who can respect the art of drumming ass demonstrated by such legendary awesomness as gene krupa. if any dickhead mentions him just annoy the little shit and he will go away and maybe die to never disgrace my generation ever again and make me a little less mad to be born in 1995 not 1945 so i can be rightfully mad about new music

  • Wow Travis barker?! Really?! I cant stand him he doesn't play with a groove and it's the same thing everytime! Tony royster can smoke him his styles vary and he can play anything! Lol

  • this is were its at! haha crazy!

  • Blink 182 is for fucking children, why there's an argument about those faggots going on in here is beyond me

  • why dont they do this anymore? it would be so sick if some metal core drummers had a drum off

  • is there ONE f***in drum vid without a travis barker discussion?!

  • @TheRookieNr10 ye go to a Blink 182 video its full of justin bieber discussions ...-_-

  • @TheRookieNr10 lol travis barker sucks though

  • @TheRookieNr10 its contemporary music culture....

  • @TheRookieNr10 Who is travis barker??

  • @TheRookieNr10 Actually, it's not that bad! - Travis Barker was the one that got me into drumming, and he was a huge inspiration for me when I first started ... Now I play jazz, Funk and find inspiration from Gadd, Stanton Moore, Joe Morello and all these "legends" ... But in the end it was Travis Barker that made me interested in drumming - And I know that he inspired many other "kids" , so that cant be a bad thing :)

  • @TheRookieNr10 yeah sick of that backer twat

  • @TheRookieNr10 GENE HOGLAN IS DA MAN!! :-)

  • There are so many great drummers out there and trying to compare them is silly!

It's an apples to oranges kind of thing!

Can anyone compare Buddy Rich to Neil Pert?

They are both Fantastic musicians yet are worlds apart!

    no better, no worse,

when someone talented comes along, enjoy the gift that God gave them!

Don't waste time trying to compare!

    That is just MY opinion!

  • notice how they play with a smile on their face travis barker doesnt

  • a retard can play like travis barker all you need to do is bang on the cymbals and drums

  • Cobus can do that. :D

  • @Xenzus Cobus just had his first Jazz drumming lesson yesterday. I don't think he can play that after 1 day haha :D

  • I don't know what it is but there is somthin' so loose about playing jazz on drums so if your a drummer it's a whole nother experience playing jazz

  • this IS DRUMMING

  • who the fuck is this travis barker????blink 182??? seriously????are you deaf?

  • @johnydeltablues blink-182 is amazing skate punk band and they are really famous like green day and sum 41

  • @spparkie1 i was being sarcastic...

  • Now this is jazz drumming!

  • @Eyeoftherhino Sounds like noise to me

  • Better equipment??? No, Sir!

  • Nothing has really changed today except better equipment.

  • This is how the drum solo were made

  • I´m playing drums in a band. actually it´s a bluesrock band. but several times we play hardrock, jazz, blues, funk and something this way. and it´s great if you can play so many styles... if you can it. and this vid shows one of the best kinds of drumming in the world - GROOVEY!

  • The best thing about drumming is that if you want you can play anything. I'm in a hardcore/metal band. But I love grooving out to Hip-Hop or freestylin' some Jazz.

  • id love it if i wouldve started playing jazz instead of metal...i mean, metals good and everything but jazz....its so fine and sweet and tender...im working on my jazz drumming :)

  • @DrOctodrums There is nothing wrong in playing metal and jazz. I like both, too. :) \m/ rock on

  • I hate that in every Jazz drum video, people start to fuck around about Travis Barker.

They say he's shit, or that the jazz dudes suck, BUT YOU CAN'T COMPARE BARKER TO JAZZDRUMMERS!!!!!!!!!!

  • The style from "back in the day" is just crazy! just look at how they each have their own style, with Gene it's the caveman like energy (that inspired the likes of Keith Moon, amongst others), with Chico it's his controlled speed, Lionel has his precision, and they all have tons of groove! You don't see that too much today. There are people who can play with skill like the greats but not with that style and groove!

  • Love the way Lionel and Kupa show how much they enjoy playing =D

  • I understand these cats are "good" but have you seen Travis Barker soulja boy remix?

  • @marbar2993 hahaha ummm...

  • @marbar2993 if it was not for these guy Travis Barker would not be a drummer

  • @pr192001 ahem, his name is Baron Von Tito. Sheesh, get your drummer names right!

  • @Ericthereddy1 who are you talking about. I was not even talking to you.

  • @pr192001 that was Barker's stage name in The Aquabats

  • @pr192001 Buddy smokes them all

  • @pr192001 if it wasnt for travis barker these guys would not be drumming

  • @deadsorry10 Really dude there are tons of other guys that would blow travis out tof the water, Dennis Chamber, Tony Williams, Billy Cobham, Lenny White, Tony Royster Jr, Jojo Mayer, I wish you guys stop holding Travis barkers nuts because compared to these guys he ani't Shit.

  • @pr192001 steve "godd"

  • @kopopo23 Hell yeah steve "god" the stuff he did on aja along man

  • @pr192001 naw you would have to consult the time flux continuum to see if taint stain backer would exist. For realz.

  • @marbar2993 Please tell me you're just trolling.

  • why us the other guy on the lowest platform? is because he's black, the other is not really black and the guy on top is white?

  • @cacahut sorry, i mean : travis barker do the same rhythms, and he's shit

  • @cacahut travis barker do the same shit

  • I love travis but I am disapointed at myself and others who even mentioned him compared to these forerunners.

  • Why are you talking about a mug like Travis Barker? There are thousands of players who he aint fit to carry there cases! Here we have 3 of the greatest players to ever pick up a pair of stick! Come on...TB is lame in comparison.

  • Travis who?

  • It's funny how every drumming video I watch, there's always comments on Travis Barker, haha

  • wowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww love it!!!

  • these guys are even holding thier sticks kewl

  • that right there is how you play drums!

  • Lionel is one of my family members !!! These guys were INCREDIBLE!!...

  • Lionel is my hero man,, hes DA MAAAAAAAAAAAN.......

  • I still don't understand why this is so amazing.

I respect them, but it doesn't sound good to me.

They have very good speed and control but it sounds like nothing to me.

    Explain it to me

  • @hyperguido

Because these three 'amazing' drummers can listen to each others playing and then fit in what they want to bring

You couldnt really find two rock drummers these days that could synchronise with each others ideas at a level this complex

For a jazz drummer its relatively easy to fit ideas in with solos from other instruments, but three drummers going at it is hardly ever done anymore??

  • @DexStanT

Ok, they fit in with each other. But I´m talking about what they´re playing.

To me they´re just banging on the snare with an occasional tom in between at a high speed.

With some drummers I just can´t keep my foot still, but with this I can´t even hear a clear rythm.

I´m not trying to prove they´re bad or something. I´m trying to understand why people think this is so good.

  • @hyperguido

    Hmmm fair point

Well, I guess it depends on what you listen for I guess?

I hear some nice triplet work on the snares and the toms change it up well, but yeah at some points it does seem like random snares with a few toms thrown in

  • @DexStanT

Yeah I listen to metal most of the time. They use the whole drum kit, you know, including the cups, splashes and stuff. But drum solo's never really interest me that much, I like just songs better.

Drummers like Nicko Mcbrain, John Boecklin, Ian Paice, are along my favourites.

  • @hyperguido For the same reason a guitar shredding battle is raw

Now Metal is certainly guilty of prizing the shredding over the song, as Jazz is guilty of prizing the viruosity of the performer over the sound of the group. I mean, your criticism is very valid, but that's just the nature of Jazz. They're improv drum battling, don't expect them to do easygoing rhythmic shit :P

  • @isolateslowfaults I don't take this as a "battle", it's more like "Let's have fun and have a conversation"

  • @albertw666 Very salient point.

  • @hyperguido easy: if you can't understand how jazz is written on a score, if you can't understand how hard is pplaying jazz music, you can't understand why this is so good.

  • why did they have to put the brothers on the outside? :) just kidding, awesome video.

  • haha why does everyone hate travis?

  • Ok in literally EVERY older jazz drumming video that shit fucker Travis Barker is brought up. WTF?!?! He isn't even worthy of being mentioned in the same video as these legends!!!!

  • Travis barker is alright ,now these are the guys right here !!

  • RONALDINHO GAUCHO E NEYMAR WWWORLDCUP2014 BRAZIL Orkut

  • those black guys are smashing his ass

  • This is just amazing look at that stick control it's like it's glues to their hands idk if I could dream of that level of drumming

  • After watching that video...

    I need new pants

  • That is awesome...

  • TB eats baby poo from a diaper compared to the masters seen here.

  • Never seen TB with a shirt on or play with dynamics just bash bash bash

  • Barker is decent, don't say a damn thing, I seriously doubt that anyone here could hold a candle to him, but saying he's a god or whatever is bullshit, these three are fucking ridiculous and saying Travis barker even compares to them doesn't even make sense, not just because they're amazing (which they are) but because he was a punk drummer for blink 182 so yeah no experience, so no judgement, it's Impossible

  • @HyperliteWakeBoard yeah barker's got chops & talent but that style of playing has no real nuance or intuition or variety or flow. it's like a line of straight notes put into a sequencer. abandoning so much that could be done w/ the instrument

  • @HyperliteWakeBoard hey, that's a pretty realistic response. i can dig it.

  • @HyperliteWakeBoard Well... the experience bit was kinda harsh. He has been playing for over 25 years... but apart from that I couldnt agree more.

  • @HyperliteWakeBoard I could hold a candle to Barker, and then some....

  • @HyperliteWakeBoard

Barker is more than decent, as are a lot of punk drummers, in fact. Barker, Earl Hudson, the dude from NOFX, etc. They all could play, and given they played so long with their respective bands, I'd say that chalks up quite a bit of experience.

Also, Barker was in WAY more bands than Blink 182. Transplants, Aqua Bats, +44, to name a few. He just released a solo album in March. Basically it's a hip hop album.

STILL, These three guys are legends, untouchable by my measure.

  • @HyperliteWakeBoard I actually don't like Travis at all but he started as a marching band drummer. So yes, although he's overrated as shit and not as good as people think he is, he still has SOME experience in jazz drumming (marching band).

  • Why must every drum video I come to there's some stupid comment about Travis Barker?

HE'S NOT THE ONLY DRUMMER IN THE WORLD. In fact, he's pretty fucking bad compared to the best.

Everyone do yourself a favor and checkout Stanton Moore from Galactic. Travis couldn't hold a candle to his groove.

  • @HyperliteWakeBoard

I respect great drumming when it comes down to an element of skill and creativity, no matter who it is. Though in regards to genre and its spirit...If I were punk, I would disown Blink-182, castrate myself, then turn my amp up louder.

  • @HyperliteWakeBoard Jose Pasillas is better. (Incubus)

  • fuck dude travis a fucking beast on the set im sure he can pwnn any one here with only 1 fucking stick

  • @4against1 You're an idiot who doesn't know what he's talking about...

  • Looks like Lionel is playing a 12x22!

  • geane kruppa forr eeverr!!

  • 3 people are obviously Travis Barker fans

  • what's with all the hating on travis barker, grow up .... you're no better than the trolls that go around commenting about how hes the best drummer ever

  • @epasurr :-)

  • @epasurr stop making the statement of '' best drummer ever''

it makes you only a fool he doesnt know anything about all the fantastic drummers in history..

  • @xHUTSEx what are you talking about

  • i like how they can all do this with a basic drumset

  • There's some weird guy cheering or something it sounds weird in the background, i wouldn't say Travis Baker is shit hes probably a better drummer than any of us would ever be...

  • @aliens563 Travis Barker is shit on drums

  • @MackCockstack If you say so :-P

  • @cacahut

    hahaha :D:D:D

  • @cacahut Who's Travis Baker? I know a Travis Barker...

  • @cacahut

    So is Travis Barker.

  • Read Travis' latest interview in drummer mag, he too is influenced by jazz before you start slagging him off, either way hes a better drummer than all of you commenting on this video

  • Even a good Metal drummer knows the importance of jazz drummers. Look at Bill Ward, his style is highly influnenced by Jazz/swing. I hope to one day play like this

  • I would like to see the continuation of this clip. :) Where is it?

  • Now these three gentlemen had the task of driving bands powerful enough to turn goat piss into gasoline

  • PLEASE DON'T COMMENT ON THIS VIEO IF YOU HAVE ANY OPINION WHATSOEVER ABOUT TODAY'S POPULAR MUSIC.

  • Fagbag

  • These guys are all brick houses

  • And to think people say jazz drumming is easy... this takes pure skill.

  • @Peartnoy518 who the fudgnizztits says jazz drumming is easy!?

  • @canthinkverywell Fags who play metal every second of the day.

  • remember when drumming took talent? these guys do!

  • @cacahut So shit that he get to play on TV with Kruppa and Hamilton ..Yeah right!

  • @cacahut Do you listen to lyrics at all? My Chemical Romance is pure emo band and all they sing is how unfair people are to them, how they should all unite and form "the black army" and make a "black parade" of emo people while on the other hand Green Day sings against war and about all the men how gave their lives for their families just like father of Billie Joe Armstrong did while Billie was yet to be born. Green Day wasn't always commercial band, listen to their old albums, punk albums.

  • @cacahut You shouldn't compare Green Day to Blin and Sum41...Green Day is actually only band today that can carry Punk music, sure not even close to Sex Pistols but still... and yeah sum and blink, they suck. And yes I know what real music is because I listen to: Iggy Pop, Sex Pistols, Duke Ellington, BB King, Buckethead, Al Di Meola, . . .

  • not anything special...

  • @Icantfindanamewtf your retarded

  • great drummers...yeah

  • total mayhemn !!! loving this !

  • @cacahut I said that on a travis barker video and I got hated on for days lol but i agree

  • reminds me of InnaGoddadavida at times... good to see how them cats used to do, Lionel is no slouch, I didn't know he could keep up w the others so...

  • There are two paths to showmanship in drumming, according to my old instructor; take something easy and make it look hard and take something hard and make it look easy. I prefer these guys' approach.

  • jazz drummers blow mymind

  • who is the one at the far left?

  • no imagine if this was inferno from behemoth, george kollias from nile, and flo mounier from cryptopsy. it would cause quakes of the earth

  • @TheTim4351 Drumming fast doesnt take much skill, it takes endurance. This takes both.

  • @CJNconor i never said that fast is better im just sayin it would be fucking crazy. and yes the fuck it does, it takes mad skill to do what the drummers i just listed play. dont hate on metal you jazzy prick ;)

  • Wow I commented on this video a while back. Its nice to see that 65 people agree with me about Travis Barker.

  • im the best drumer in the universe ---micky mouse or mikey ratero

  • I'm a big fan of Travis Barker but he has nothing to do in a video of Jazz Masters...

Travis is a punk rock drummer. That's all. he's not Gene Krupa.

  • @Poulmy blink isn't punk

  • @bradaman46 you're right. That's why I said "punk rock drummer". Blink 182 is Punk rock and Pop Punk (really depends on what your calling punk rock)

  • @Poulmy He's not a punk rock drummer.

  • @televisedcolonoscopy He's not just a punk rock drummer. He also plays Hip Hop, Rock and can even play some jazz. But his drumming in +44 and Blink 182 is definetly a punk rock drumming.

  • @Poulmy If you consider that garbage as punk rock you have a lot to learn kid. Punk rock is fucking pure energy not that shit you see on t.v.

  • @televisedcolonoscopy yeah I do have a lot to learn... but not from a music snob who calls some bands he doesn't like "that shit you see on t.v".

  • Because of this video, I want to start yelping and moaning when I play drums too.
