Yes the guy looks nothing like Reacher but he can act and is loved by many. Mission Impossible has been a big hit so I think the casting directors either thought he could pull this off as well or it has something to do with his power in Hollywood. Films rarely do novels justice but it will be interesting to see how it turns out.

I reckon Bruce Willis would make a good Jack Reacher. His character Hannigan in Sin City is very similar to how I personally imagine Reacher. Cruise can suck Reacher's balls!!!!

Stupid casting. Unfortunately I think Lee is blown away by someone with a high profile like Cruise, playing the part. Jack is in his prime is 6'4 tall with a 50" chest . Cruise is 5'6 , its like using a chihuahua as a guard dog. But apparently the director doing this one movie is 'good friend' of Cruise. I for one will not go to see the film and if Cruise had any sense he would see how ridiculous the casting is.

I can't believe they would cast him. Jack is bigger than life, phyically imposing, a real bad ass with a strange sense of morality. Cruise is a wimp. 6'4', 240, ice blue eyes, light hair- that's Reacher. Total oppisite of Cruise.

Jack Reacher is described as 6'4 - 200 plus. He's also early late 30's / early 40's. Tom Cruise ruins it. Dolph Lundgren can't act.. Hugh Jackman is possible, but he may be overplayed. I've narrowed it down to Clive Owen or recently departed from Law and Order SVU Chris Meloni

Look up a guy called Holt McCallany, he was in an episode of Criminal Minds (series 1) and I mean it....IDEAL Reacher. I always thought it should be a little known actor to take this bad ass role. Cruise...pathetic. I'm CERTAINLY not going to go waste money on seeing this travesty. I'll just carry on reading the books and keeping my own version of Reacher going.... :D

Imo, Cruise isn't Reacher as a Lexus isn't a Mercedes or as

Las Vegas isn't Monaco. All fake and bad copy, not original,

not truly mature. Only surface, no contend nor history.

Giving him the role would be an utter failure and the movie will be bound

to ruin the Reacher myth!

I figure Reacher more as a mix between Daniel Craig (the new James Bond)

and Till Lindemann (Singer of Rammstein).

I won't even waste my time with watching the trailer - Cruise is arrogant and doesn't give a damn about the fans - but he sure does want your dollars. He won't be getting mine. I'm seriously thinking of not buying the next book - wish all the fans would boycott both this movie and the new book.
