Nasty cross winds forced the pilot to come in at a severe angle. Gusts can push a plane off approach. The pilot wisely aborted and took a fly around.

I prefer to position the wing low on the windward side, the wind has less leverage to "lift" the wing that way. Most pilots fear dragging the wing that way but if you are mindful it is much smoother on approach when you have to add 10-15% rudder to compensate the crosswind.

There's nothing crazy about that. It's called a go-around. The pilot caught a bit of a gust trying for a crosswind landing and had to make another pass. Pax will freak out because the don't understand what's going on which isn't their fault.

well I haven't been on a 737-200 since southwest pulled theres about 10 years ago or so.. All I can tell you is that the plane should meet FAA standards. You may hear squeaks and since it's older it will be louder. The plane will be safe though. It's kinda like getting in an old car (real old). They run loud and blow a lot of exaust but that just part of the age from which it came.
