The people are collected by the Meat Grinder. A lucky few are selected to have their noses removed for a collection. Those that aren't selected are ground up. Once the nose has been removed, they are ALSO ground up.
1: One man escaped, and left a small monument somewhere, likely a planet he found.
2: This one man who survived and destroyed the Meat Grinder was honored for his sacrifice with a monument. Over time, what was left still collapsed into chaos and it was forgotten...
