You also have to consider the fact that since this was the first metroid game, the exploration factor isn't going to be perfect, and is bound to have some mistakes. Also, since it is an NES, the backgrounds aren't going to be super ZOMG Balls up the walls stunning.

@solidmario64 Nintndo wanted to put a save feature,but the sales weren't good in Japan and they didn't want to risk a lot of money(like Metroid).The Legend of Zelda sold well in Japan and Nintendo put a save feature to it.

I remeber my friend and I renting Metroid for a weekend and we were able to beat it. Was tough, we spent many hours, but it was well worth it.
