what format does the videos have to be in. I want to put some videos in it from my computer and it says it cant be watched. This is just a nook question while not rooted.
Sorry, but I'm not sure what this does, what I want is to download apps. Soooooo, is that what this does? Also I don't know what the risks are. Should I cancel the warranty?
@SmileyLegoGuy As far as I know, rooting the device won't void your warranty. You can always reset the software to factory by restarting it 8x in a row(interruping a successful startup each time). It will then wipe the system software and reinstall version 1.0.0
@De4dSpace A rooted nook will look the same except when you follow the other steps as well you should be able to use adb to get a shell and put other software on it. are you following the nookdevs wiki? check out the chat link in the vid description to get connected to the #nookcolor channel for help.
@dsterry Yeah I followed the nookDevs instructions. With a hiccup, dd gives an error saying 1m isnt a valid number. So I changed the lower case m to M. Then it rocks it. They also say the screen should stay black when first plugging it into a usb port. Mine turns on as soon as it gets juice. Ill keep workin on it. Thanx for the freenode #.
I'm so frustrated. I got everything to work except the enable app install on the nc. I followed the instructions but it keeps saying installation of download apks not supported. Help?
@missjones3077 Did you enable read/write access on the system partition? Also did you install su? I'm not sure which of those would help but I suspect one of them is the key step for enabling installation from the device.
@dsterry The read-write is the part I dont understand. How do you enable adb on the nc? Is it the same folder (platform\tools) used when you manually download apks? Do I start there? At this point I just have it rooted and manually download apk's and I'm trying to get adb enabled so I can download from the nc automatically. I have the FDroid app but it won't download anything.
@missjones3077 I think your best bet is to login to the #nookcolor irc channel on freenode. If you aren't familiar with irc, you can go to webchat dot freenode dot net and /j nookcolor
Very awesome vid. Do you know of any good video converters for the nook color? It plays MP4 but when I loaded a MP4 video for my psp it wouldnt play...
@thisisgame The video I play on the NC is actually an MP4 from Thru-you that Ubuntu's file command shows as 'ISO Media, MPEG v4 system, version 2'. So any converter that can output that should work. On ubuntu, avidemux seems to be a good option.
@dakidsbac I have a nook color and I like it a lot because I read lots of comic books but the battery life is nothing compared to the kindle because of the lcd screen. The nook color is also more open than the kindle. Don't get me wrong the kindle is a great device for what it does. It's way better than the original nook.
@dakidsbac This is kind of an aside to my video which is about the NOOKcolor. Believe it or not, I'm not really into the e-book or book reader idea but this seemed like a very capable device at a fairly low price...it just needed some software enhancements. So neither... get a NOOKcolor and root it!
my nook annoys me:(

Is there a way to do that without making my warranty void? I paid $20 for extra warranty.

@dsterry Ok I'll see if I can do it.

@SmileyLegoGuy Yeah you can always go back to the original nook software that comes with the device if you plan on returning it.

I put the img on an microSD. Popped it in the nook. When I plug the USB cable in it boots the default enviroment.
