  • It doesn't work on all switches. It has the be the same o e that he has. I have the one with fog light option and it doesn't work with this trick, so be careful not to break it while doing that so you can bend it back if it doesn't work. I've done that and it went back fine, but it don't work do me. 2003 passat w8

  • hey do u know if that will work with a 05 vw touareg? please let me know thx

  • yo i did that now my dash light isnt turning on, wtf?

  • just pull the e break up one click

  • after doing this a long time ago i decided to turn back on my DRL and i bent the pin back to normal and my DRL still arnt turning on......

  • it has only 3 positions? it hasn't sidelights??

  • @S3hz us spec vw's don't come with parking light position, you can order the euro switch and get the replacement wire for the parking lights.

  • @Drewbie85 oh thanks for the info ;)

  • great vid. very helpful

  • You made my day.

  • anyone know how to get it so the orange smaller lights are on during the day instead??

  • I tried this and my DRL lights went off but my radio went off too, wtf??

  • how can i fix the inside door handle on a passat???i need help!

  • YOU ARE THE FUCKING MAN! I was searching all of google and the instructions were garbage. I did it in 30 secs. Thank you so much.

  • you should be proud of yourself man this help me 100% thanks.

  • why would you want to do that?

  • @samanferrari i did it cause im getting hids and i dont want them running when they dont have to be....theres other reasons tho

  • How bout for an earlier jetta. Mk3 specifically?

  • OR you can remove the daytime running lights RELAY!!! and not fuck up your switch :)

  • fuanciona ;) :)

    gracias

  • i did this and twice it blew out my headlight bulbs first the right then the left

  • Finally someone who makes the videos I wanna see thumbs up!

  • jetta a3 1997?

  • I solved my battery draining issue. Sure the DRL's were annoying, but only a slight drain on power while driving. The culprit was the 6 disc CD changer in the trunk. If I left the radio on CD mode it (just the changer) runs while the car is off. I added a on/off switch and the battery is staying fully charged now.

  • does this work for a 2008 jetta?

  • Man that was sooo easy! Thanks for the video. Now maybe my battery will quit dying on me while I'm driving....one by one warning lights come on...and then car dies after a few minutes of driving. New battery and good alternator too.

  • @windowsvistasuxalot You need to check your grounds, and make sure new battery has tight connections. Its not your drls doing this

  • What happens if I have HIDs installed on short beams, so when I turn it off Im gonna use high beams during the night instead of my HIDs in low beams???

  • @cubanrma This is exactly what i want to know, have you tried it yet?

  • @redvsblue489 Yeah I did it and its exactly as I wanted it, when u turn the lights on your HIDs are gonna turn on !!! dont worry about short or high beams, in high beams the car turn both short and high anyways so ur HIDs are gonna work...

  • I just did this last night . Great video

One headlight bulb went out so I did it so cops won't notice during the they and at night I just high beam it home (stock high beams not very bright)

  • @VWJasonGLI this is exactly what i've been doing lol

  • So can you run just the little yellow lights without the low beams?

  • Same pin on a mkv?

  • you should specify the year or generation of the vehicle from what i can see it seems to be for the golf/mark 4 era Vw's and would be 1999-2005(and very early part of 2006 old body style)

  • Sweet!! Took all of ten seconds and the DRL are officially gone. Found this link on vwvortex. Thanks again to all you DIY guys.

  • mine is different

  • DRLs suck the life out of bulbs and are f-ing pointless. Great vid. thanks!!!

  • Worked like a charm! Thanks for making this vid.

  • i got a 09 much smaller than that one u got wich one do i bend back

  • what is daytime runing lites :S

  • Thanks for this brilliant idea.

    God bless You !

    :)

  • Thanks brotha I was going to to that but did not know how and now um going to do that this week....... :-)

  • Does anyone know how to disable it for a Mk3 GTI VR6?

  • Worked perfectly, Do you have a pin out on the switch itself? i'm looking for the city lights in the front. They only turn on when the switch is on i just want them vice versa.

    Any help would be apriciated!

    Thanks!

  • What would be the point of this?

  • ok ok we all know that how about on an 06 jetta 2.5

  • wow thanks this video is awesome!

  • There is a better way. If you have non-xenon light do this:

Put key in ignition, but don't tunr it.

    Set light knob to OFF

Set indicator handle for left indicator

Pull the handel towards your self and keep it in that position while,

turning the key in the ignition to ACC position.

Wait untill you hear a beep.

i found this on polish site: mr-fix.pl

  • how do u make it so just the turning signals stay on? do you need the euro fog light switch?

  • what happens to the drl light on the dash? thnks

  • Why would you want to remove a protection device that saves lives and that's mandatory? Sounds stupid to me

  • @dorkinski

People do this sometimes because they have HID's installed and want to prevent their lightbulbs from burning out because DRL's only run the bulb at 50% power which prevents a xenon bulb from running at its optimal operating temperature which ultimately shortens the life of your HID's. Secondly, DRL's aren't mandatory everywhere. To my knowledge, they are only mandatory in Canada and some states in the US.

    Kapiche?

  • @dorkinski maybe because the bulbs are over $300. that's only one reason.

  • genius....

  • good job on this, thanks, I also hooked up euro switch with devil eyes, now I can run just parking lights (devil eyes) alone or with fogs, or with all lights, good vid

  • like the person with the 09 TDI, how do you disbale the DRL's on the mkv style?

  • Will this work on an MK3?

  • Curious.... what model/year was this car?

  • thank you so much, now i dont feel sketchy listening to music parked and rollin a blunt

  • hmm I am gonna try this cuz I have a 06' Jetta 2.0T and it has factory HID bulbs and well I dont want to shorten the life spam of them. Great vid man

  • Burn DRL's! I have to replace my bulbs multiple times a year cuz they get burned out from excessive run time. This video saved me! THANKS!

  • Wanna know if someone know how to just unplug the wire in the connector instead of altering the tfl pin

  • I had a hyperwhite xenon lights on my car and it fudged my whole lighting system up. Now one light is dimmer than the other. They told me it was cuz of the DRL and those bulbs. BUt i dont think thats the probably cuz i have seen alot of VWs my year with the same problem.

  • @jmemixx is one light barely on and the other is fine?

  • @flameskid exactly, i have a jetta and i have seen other jettas with lights like that, is it a recall thing? you know how to fix that?

  • is LED light will shorten the life of the bulb if you have DRL? anyone can answer me

  • LED lights have a life of around 50,000 hours, so my guess is that DRL will shorten their life. I wouldn't worry much about this because your bulbs will die before your LEDs do

  • U could just pull the relay...it worked for me

  • @Onry1 - I have a 2008 Jetta and Passat - where are the relays located?

  • @Frazzy08

On my 03 GTI they're under the dash near the fuse box, on the 08-09 I don't know.

  • It's from the top dippy

  • i just tried doing this to my 2006 jetta 2.5 and when i pulled out the whole thing i was surprised to find that there wasnt a giant box attached to it like in this video. it just had a small box (about 1/2" x 1/2") with tiny tiny pins.

Help!!! I want to disable my DRL's!!!!

  • Allot of you mail me / comment... "Oh you should just put electrical tape..." I tried, The tape is too thick and it kept on sliding off or the pin poked right through it... I got fed up and just bent the day'm thing. Since then it has been 4 years, I unbent it and traded in my car for a Subaru WRX

  • nice..

  • @EdiotTom good choice on your replacement w00t

  • @EdiotTom yeah same happened to me and i did the same thing

  • @EdiotTom Just make sure that you are able to disable the DRLs on your Suby!

  • @EdiotTom Text warning comes up "Engine Workshop" and the Glow Plug symbol flashes on and off. The brake lights are currently not working as a result. I've been told the two problems are related and I need to 'reset brake lights'. Can you or anyone help?

  • There is another way to do this. This works on my Golf Mark 6 model. O

    FF:

with ignition off, indicate stalk DOWN (left) and pull toward you (flash) and hold, turn ignition on for 3 seconds and you should hear a beep, ignition off and on, and they should now be off

    ON:

Repeat above, but indicator stalk UP(right) instead.

I would recommend turning DRL off bc it uses more petro/gas and if you do high mileage like me it can add to your fuel bill dramtically.

  • Thanks alot Dude......im about to do that to my gti....i hate running lights........Peace...

  • after you bend it can you bend it back if you want them agian?

  • your best bet is just to not bend it. electrical tape works just fine.

  • sometimes, but majority of the time the pin will break off, just put electrical tape over the pin. that way just take the tape off and you have them again

  • What exactly are Daytime Running Lights and what purpose do they serve? Why would you want to disable them? I live in Australia and not America, so I suspect law relating to vehicle lights are quite different here, also I don't drive.

  • If the case is having DRL is time that every car maker use LED's instead, that way will not smoke the inside of the lens

  • Great, DRL is necessary in Florida.

  • I wouldn't remove it. DRLs are beneficial.

  • dont bend the pin! just use tape

  • electrical tape wont work, the pins push through it. duct tape might work

  • haha uh...well...im using electrical tape. been fine for about 4 months now :)

  • electrical tape will work. thats what i did, and it works. have had it like that for a while now

  • thanks!! i hate daytime running lights. it took me 10 seconds to fix on my jetta. awesome!

  • ok that's cool but you would be better off to leave it on. Or put electrical tape over contact because of a fire hazzard lol.

  • 2009 Jetta TDI- they changed the plug! New one is very small.

  • @dumbweighter

Any luck on disabling the DRL? I have a 08 Jetta - same thing smaller plug. Can't find any relays either.

  • @dumbweighter i heard on the mkv's you need a vag-com.

  • If the TFL pin does not shut off your DRLs then you need to fold down the B pin. They moved the wire from TFL to B on new models.

  • @Fowvay I have a 2002 TDI Beetle I just bought. I had to fold down the B pin like you suggested. Works great. I hate DRLs.

  • Nice why not turn it off , All Is DRL does is fog up the lenses because the lights are on all the time always cooking in there then you can see shit at night

  • Daytime running lights should light up the back as well.

  • I disagree. Front impact is more dangerous than back, so it is vital that people see cars when they come. But when it rains, drivers should manually turn the main lights on, so the back light will be on.

  • Why remove it? THINK ABOUT SAFETY AND VISIBILITY!!!

  • why keep it? THINK ABOUT COPS AND HAVING FUN!!

  • if you cant see 2 tones of metal on the road on a bright day you shouldnt drive at all

  • Please don't make yourself looking retarded. Think about junctions - some people don't look both ways properly and pull out... DRLs will help to catch their eyes.

  • yeah...in theory

and the problem is in "not looking properly" not "having lights off"

you could also try to not make yourself looking retarded, see

  • hahahahaha +1

  • would this also work on a mkv jetta

  • I don´t get why you whould turn it off.

You can do this with a VAG-COM cable from Ebay, costing less then $40, and that can easily be reset, so you don´t have to brake any connector.

  • why the fuck disable that you cunt

  • Just to make sure, it wont short anything out or anything of that sort will it? thanks

  • If you take a VW w/o any mods electrical and do that... Nope Its been almost 2yr and no problems...

  • Awesome!!! Worked like a charm!!!

  • Not sure what is wrong with DRLs. My GTi has them and I wish my Audi had them.

  • you could also just pull out Relay 173 through the panel on the leftside of the steering wheel

  • I did exactly what this video says and my DRL are still functional.

  • In Norway you get a ticket for not having DRL.

because of the safty, not weird so many people crash in the UK

  • BAN DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS!

  • Why?

  • We don't have DRL in the UK. I think DRLs are cool, but only because no one else here has them...

  • nice. another way is to wrap that pin in electrical tape.

  • I tried that but i couldnt get it right... The tape keept on sliding off.
