I don't think autism/aspergers ruins a marriage its the person that does it,even if we have ASD or autism we still have a personality and that could mean for example we are a nasty person etc. just like an NT person could have a nasty nature.
I agree with your video, it makes out autism is a terminal illness!!! My son is autistic and he is fabulous, you can teach an autistic child so much if you find the level they learn at.
Why do you believe the lies that Autism Speaks tells you? They call you a "burden", "changling", "demon", "jigsaw puzzle" and every other autistic slur. Asperger's is autism. Autism is a spectrum. You must have been hanging out with those curebie parents for too long. If you had a more positive attitude about yourself, you would probably have a job. You're another of one of those "self-hating autistics", or "autistic Uncle Toms."
What amazes me is that you throw a stereotpye of not empathizing at us, but you can't even empathize the pain of us having to be called "retarded" by the brainwashed public thanks to Autism Speaks and their Nazi mentality. Hypocrite.
I agree with you fiona. I dont need to be cured, or given any other accomodations beyond common courtesy. There is definitely a danger of future generations of aspies being eradicated through genetic screening before birth. It could even become "the responsible thing to do". I very much like being alive, even If i am a square peg in a round holed world.
Children with Autism are not the enemy. Autism as a disorder is a enemy. You are high functioning. You will live a relatively normal life.. but a lot of people are not and it is awful.
@ASDASDFADC The problem with organizations like Autism Speaks is they generalize Autism and they're spreading propaganda that everyone with Autism will never function properly.
I really enjoyed watching your video and I hope that you will get the chance to see my video called "My Life with Asperger's". I talk about how I deal with life everyday with Asperger's.
I loathe Autism Speaks - in part because they try so hard to silence autistics and aspies. My son has autism & I want to love & understand him, not "cure" or "eradicate" him.
Do we think it is alright to bully people that immigrate to other countries and speak only their native tongue? Not really. Even if they adapt to their surroundings they will still lag behind the people that were born in the country they immigrated to. That's how we are as aspie's except no where is comforting but with the people that speak our native tongue. People have to accept that just like there are different speaking languages, there are different ways to think.
i dont see what the promblem is every 1 is diffrent my cousin has autism but he dont seem that much diffrent he just gets obsessed with a lot things and i can never really take him out when picking up girls lol but his still a great kid and incredbly smart his only 14 yet his already smarter than 95% of the adult population lol autsim shouldent even exist due 2 every 1 being unique and diffrent it makes no sense 2 me
@RhystaDude909 1) I am autistic. Not "I have autism". One of these statements insinuates that something that has shaped and influenced every aspect of my existence is separate to me. Ergo, it is extremely offensive.
2) Reliable sources such as Attwood's colleagues will tell you autism is no more prevalent today than it was 20,000 years ago. What is different is that detection (as well as the negative consequences of being different) has increased.
@aspie182 I'm so sorry you were affended. I recently saw a comment on youtube that affended me. I have severe hearing loss and attend a university. People with disabilities can live normal lives. Dont anyone tell u different. If u have a goal or a dream go for it.
@cu601 I hope to god that you are not planning a career in social services or the like. Because the people I know who do work in that field near where I live know the reality is quite different. The reason you are able to live a normal life is because people acknowledge you have a problem and respond to that appropriately. I, on the other hand, have to tell people constantly that inappropriate or mismatched help is NOT preferable to no help at all (in fact, it is worse).
Love how you have to read from a written text, no judging, I HAVE to do the same thing. But one little thing i noticed is that you talk a bit fast and maybe you could try slowing down just a tad.
God bless your video, as a person on the spectrum I gotta say I think it is awful that there are idiots who act like autism is the bubonic plague, and last time I checked the bubonic plague kills, autism doesn't kill.
Not too long ago some lady told me she suspects her 4 yr old son is autistic but his teacher said he was too young to be tested and I told this mom that this teacher is full of bunk, I was diagnosed with Autism at age 2 and a half.
The funny thing is that I've been bullied by people and that when they find out about me they then stop... so I'm almost glad not to be neuro typical ha ha ha!
Everyone walks away with a wonderful diagnosis in Aspergers where so many people are aware of it and there's me who gets the crappy Semantic Pragmatic disorder that no one hears or cares about lol! Everyone seems to want an Aspergers syndrome because its fun, cute and cuddly with a bite of 'rude reality'. We suffer just as much as our learning difficulties compensate the typical lower autism quotient... although I find it a conscious effort to express myself as if it cant be learned.
@AspergersGirl Yes, it is difficult and I know because I have a very similar diagnosis to you and my best friend has aspergers but I guess what I'm saying is that I am sick of the people that look at it that way because it blocks the true awareness which is that it is difficult and then people don't take it seriously and then you have those that think they have it based on the incorrect stereotype. Ignorance isn't good so I was trying to inform people for the good of both disorders.
@AspergersGirl Ohh yes secondly people who don't have it come in numbers with versatile views like for instance... someone might be very sympathetic like my helper... or you certainly like you said there are those that look down at it as if its nothing but also for different reasons, some could be plain bullies where as others may have funny beliefs. I personally think that its just another rock called suffering which we all carry on our backs through out life, they're just different types.
@AspergersGirl Amen to that. When you openly ask in front of hundreds of people "what do I have to do? bash my head against something and give myself a brain injury?" in response to run-arounds, it takes an intelligent person to realise that you feel like you are in hell. Unfortunately, intelligent normie seems to be turning into an oxymoron.
@caerleon87 I didn't imply that to those that may as well just beat me up cuz they can't be bothered to read properly.
My point was that Aspergers is always in the spotlight of awareness which is unrealistic considering a whole spectrum of similar diagnosis's.
Quite a few people seem to get the idea that its this wonderful little identity that they can go an act on so that they will have a feeling of security about themselves and how others view them.
laast time i had a run in with aps was when i lived in maine and they warnt on my side , they aslo told me people with my illness can not publicly practice unorthodox religions , they tryed to put me back in a group home had to get a advocate to help me im my own guardian but im not my own payee
High funtioning autistic people and asperberger people make up a significant number of scientists in the world. Asperberger/high-functionning autistic has a much higher representation in the scientific community than any other group.
furthermore i find it highly offensice that people call asperbergers and autism for mental disorders when homosexuality is not regarded as such.
both are somethnig your born with and asperber/autism is at least natural
im kinda stuck in a hopeless situation some what cuz my aspergers tho my mom says not all aspergers are the same, she basically wont let me see people beside her and she only visits me once a week:/ and she wont take me to the doctor to get checked up ever and she said i can only call her if my house is burning down or some other emergency :/, i cant drive and i cant walk far and i live out in the middle of no where, know anyone that could help me get out this mess i live in va.
@stupidnamewaster Probably because she thinks some of the things you do are cute. I had a really hot girlfriend, and we broke up a while back, but the only really big problem I had was getting to a stage where I could let her touch me. Just out of interest did you ever have that problem?
@Glyth1 It speaks for the seriously autistic people who are helpless in its grip and require 24/7 care. And theres tons of them out there....enough to fill up a 25 year waiting list in NJ.
If you have any problem, you're an enemy and good luck surviving on even a basic level. I don't have sex; I'm a whore. I don't process people like that; I'm racist. I have schizophrenia and I lost all my emotion, which is fine except when I get filled with anxiety-like thing that is the result of paranoia. There is no hope.
I agree with what you said since it was pertaining to the first half of the video But I believe the intentions of the whole was for the first half to be an array of myths that they are trying to destroy with the families together with the other half. I also agree with you on how wrong viewing autism as a disease that can be cured is. Scientists are wasting their time trying find a cure. You can't cure something that's in your DNA but you can treat it, understand it and learn how to deal with it.
I myself have Asperger's Syndrome, and I'm very happy. Yes, there are aspects of it that I wish I didn't have, but there are a lot of good aspects as well. The only impact Asperger's has had on my parents, who to this day are still happily married, is that they learned to be more open to people than they already were. I, like you, don't care for the stigma that has been created around Asperger's and am disappointed in Alfonso Cuaron for directing "I Am Autism." Very well said, AspergersGirl.
This gal doesnt seem to have much of a problem and Im happy for her. She doesnt have to wait 25 years to get into a group home, she can express herself and Ill bet she has friends, too.
@Taraterm2 Your remark is kinda uneducated. The reason more are appearing is not because it needs curing it because it was finally able to be diagnosed. Second Before you spout the word CURE again ask your self if you would be okay with a Lombatomy because thats your cure. Third Autistics feel more comfortable alone or around one another so of course we will appear in large amounts. Your comments ring of no truth instead of brainwashing I pity you
@Quintega A cure could come in the form of medication or possible in utero gene therapy. The autistic people I speak of are the REAL autistic ones, ones who are completely helpless and cannot survive without 24/7 support, which oddly enough, most people here dont seem to be aware of.Everyone is yammering about their rights, but no one seems to want to help the seriously disabled autistics who make up a sizable portion of the population. They simply deny those people exist. How selfish.
@Taraterm2 All autism is real and Medication cannot rewire a brain. Second you think LFA's are the only "REAL" autism? are you stupid LFA's are only a third of the SPectrum and the use of REAL is just nonsense. Why don't you shut up and get a lobotomy
@Quintega Sigh...ok, dopie, take a listen.50 years ago schizophrenics were lobotomized and locked in attics cause there were no medications to help them, Today, although far from perfect, there are meds that can help schizophrenics live realtively normal happy lives. The same could prove true for autistic people .And I mean REALLY autistic people, ones defined by the word as living so deeply within themselves they could not even be typing out arguements in flawless English,
@Taraterm2 this is the key difference schizophrenics still use the same brain wiring. Autism is completely different wiring its like telling a MAC your gonna cure it with a patch and make it a PC it doesn't work. Finally child stfu your just giving me more ammo to use against ignorant people in my report. If you keep it up I may need to ask your name. Also try and act like you are which is not smarter then me. My gift grants me the ability to perfectly memorize things of interest
@Quintega Ill be happy to talk in front of your class any time. But you dont need me, just go to your local school district and ask to sit in on the classes for autistic kids where they laboriously teach, for hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of hours, the basic human behaviours nessesary for survival. At a cost, I might add, of 50 to 100 grand a year. That doesnt include bus transportaion by the way.
Autism Speaks wants to to more or less eradicate autism by curing it---like saying you want to cure left handed people or gays. It's morally outrageous because by the time it's diagnosed, it's hard wired into your brain. The problem is that they want to cure children while they can, so they don't have to continue ignoring us adults-- and they can make us accomodate THEIR problems with us rather than our problems with the world. "Autism Speaks can go away. I have Autism. I can speak for myself."
@ApollonApostle Autism Speaks doesnt have a problem with Aspies. If you are fine with your conditon, cool. AS wants to help families whose lives are made hell by the tragedy that is REAL autism and the insurmountable challanges that we have that you guys dont seem to understand or realize. Maybe thats what makes you an Aspie...you cant empathize. Uh, you DO know theres a 25 year wait for autism group homes, right???
@mylovesofmylife If they are high functioning yes. Those are called Asbergers people. But the traditional autistic patient requires a great deal of support and therapy, and most of them will wind up in institutions and group homes If they are lucky.{Tons of them are homeless on the streets} You would think Aspies would want to HELP their fellow, less lucky autism sufferers and push for funding and cures and not just yammer about how perfect They are.
I mean, I think the spectrum has gone off the charts. Too many people with aspergers are misdiagnosed as a hfa. But the autism every day video is horrible. It gives no hope for parents. Autism doesn't have to be hopeless. Their lives will be different, but what is a doctor to say they won't have any marriages, or an even normal life? Parents should be open to opportunities. Not be told that their child won't live to a full potential they're expecting. It's just, bullshit.
@BrainDeadIntellect Its tough to take, but the statistics bear out the facts. Most autistics DONT grow up to have normal lives...perhaps with increased funding and research they will. But it costs an awful lot of money, and we need to be supporting the cure, not saying its not nessesary. If autism was so harmless there wouldnt be so many people in need of services.
@Taraterm2 Sorry to tell you this but I have been doing more research then most NT's even do in this catagory. The statistics are rigged by the company who did them Autism Speaks. Second of course no HFA or Aspergers would live an NT life we don't want to. But not all HFA's have aspergers. My best friend is HFA and he is fin'g briliant. I am an Aspie or Asperger. By the way its a P as in AS PER GER not AS BER GER. The only real emotions we lack are Jealousy but even then we build around it
@Quintega Looks like you need to go back to school!!!!OK, please come to my home, and meet my son. Come to his school, and meet his classmates. Come to his adult day care center and summer camp, come to our support groups and Ill show you all the autistics you want who are profoundly disabled and require hundreds of thousands of dollars in care and therapy just to be able to be taught their basic life skills. And most of them are still severely impacted even after 2 decades of therapy.
@Taraterm2 I am in college and I am also part of the party who seek to have the UN define us as a minority to save both LFA's and HFA's from people like you. you should go back to school for every 1 LFA their are 10 times that amount of HFA's the fact your sitting on youtube arguing shows how little you know about LFA's my aunt teaches them I help raise LFA's who come from families who do the same crap your preaching. I want neural diversity to be accepted not shunned so seriously shut up
@Quintega Ive got you beat. Im over twice your age and raising a young seriously autistic man. Theres nothing I dont know on the subject, so if you need any help with your research, just give a yell. You obviously need a LOT of straightening out.
@Taraterm2 yet I know more then you because every history book and phycology book to be produced in the last 100 years I have read and memorized so don't try to be cute little girl. Plus if your really are older try to act it. This communication is over
@Quintega so you dont believe me when I tell you seriously autistic people cannot read, write, speak, relate to the world or cope on their own?? That many of them struggle to learn life skills and never go to real school and get jobs?? That most of them require group homes and/or institutions?? You REALLy cant wrap your little aspie brain around that???Interesting. You remind me of the Germans who refused to believe in the existance of the death camps.
@Quintega. Stop whining about the "Asbergers" typo when you use ridiculous misspellings like "phycology" and "imbicile". If you'd read and memorised even a couple of books you'd have those spellings down correctly.
@Taraterm2 so you have 22 years of experience with an autistic while I have 22 years of actually having it. geee lassie who do you think is gonna be more knowledgeable me or some person who has no physical experience with it
My little brother has autisum..... he drives me nuts!!! He throws temper tantrums 4 no reson all the time! But I love him. Dose ayone think it is nessisary to start a fight with someone at school or at the store if they say "ur little brother is retarded." What do I do u may ask? I tell them to knock it off or imma nock the living day light outta them. I got in a fight with someone once.... I dont no what to do anymore!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@AspergersGirl YOU ARE SO FUCKEN RUDE!!! These people are not retarded. I have severe hearing loss and atend a university! We want to be called by names not lables. I'm outraged.
Great job on this video, well said. Henry and David are my identical twins with high-functioning autism. THIS IS A DISORDER, NOT A DISEASE. Well said! It's here, it's around us, let's try and understand and accept this. Sure, the behaviors are quirky and it takes a lot of patience. But these are people with feelings, just trying to make their way (as you have said). The best I can do is give my boys lots of love & patience, and an education. Keep on putting your videos out there for us!
@HenryandDavid Serious autism extends beyond the quirky. Good Lord, you think Id be complaining if MY son went to school, had friends, drove a car and had a job???The video is highlighting the plight of people who have horrible tragic deficits that keep them from having any kind of life and cost this country billions of dollars a year. Therapy helps, but its Not a cure.Come to our post 21 transitional meetings and watch the parents cry as they figure out what do to with our kids lives.
@Taraterm2 let me ask you something how many HFA's have you even met. Did you know short of having Autism they are impossible to detect. If you live in a city I can guarantee there are 30 with in a mile radius of your house as for LFA's you would maybe have 10 in a 5 mile radius. LFA's are very very rare hence why you should spend hours doing research like I am for my report. Also do you know most HFA's have an outstanding IQ mines over 150 last time I was patent enough to sit still through one
@Quintega Ive met my share. I suspect my brother in law is HFA.He does fine, although his life is pretty limited from an NT point of view. But hey, he is happy that way and he's sucessful, so, more power to him.But lower functioning autistics Used to make up the bulk of the population before everyone and his goldfish decided to call themselves autistic. You dont see them often on their own cause they are too low functioning to leave the house. But they are there.
@Taraterm2 once again your facts are wrong. No there is a difference between Mental retardation and LFA. Next that isn't true. They leave their houses often. I know every autistic in my city LFA and HFA every single one. How because my report. I hunted down every single one only a third of the autistics are LFA and they aren'y hidden seriously what is wrong with you. LFA's never made up the bulk NEVER nor do they make parent's hide them. only ones I've seen like that are EXTREMELY LFA
@Quintega Many autistics do have menatl redardation, that is a fact. Many dont. But its a huge challange either way.You really need to do your homework Hon, and call the DDD and ask them about support services thta real autistics require. Oh hey, just watch the video, there are all the examples you need of painfully helpless vulnerable autistic people who need curing before they can live independent lives.
lower or higher functioning it's both autism they should be treated as the same when it comes to the treatments available. i have a child whos higher functioning and a son on the complete opposite side of the spectrum why does one get noticed more than the other in the medical services.
@DadOf2AutisticBoys Like i said yesterday on another video of mine - they get noticed because they have an obvious disibility. You can't see high functioning autism/aspergers when you look at someone, so they don't take you seriously. I think the reason being is because people address the severity of the issue at hand.
@DadOf2AutisticBoys Its horribly expensive and theres too much bureaucracy. And sadly, too many people are fighting the need for a cure and life supports, for some weird reason...If you keep saying I LOVE BEING AUTISTIC!!!! its JUST DUCKY!!! politicians grin and withdraw money, hey, why pour funding into autism it if its not a problem??you think Aspies would want to help their severely affected brethern. but they dont. I guess its their empathy problem.
@AspergersGirl Okay then ... instead of saying would you like a 'cure' for AS ... what if we rephrased it and said would you like a cure for being tired and sad all the time ... or a cure/therapy to help you find social interaction easier ... and a cure to stop you from saying you are happy to be single for the rest of your life when there are probably hundreds of cute boys who would date you ... if we phrased it like that would you want a 'cure'/therapy then? :D
I feel exactly the same about the "Cure Autism Now!" campaign. If you don't know what it's like to have Autism or Aspergers, why do you want to get rid of it?
@debiani3866 I completely agree. Although people like me can only try, They have the power to be able to do that sort of thing and have people actually listen.
@debiani3866 Its not a question of education. We parents Are educated. But how do you cope with a helpless person who screams all day??? or beats themselves up?? or wanders out of the house like a 4 year old?? or rocks and flaps for hours. This is what REAL autism is like, and the country is running out of money to treat it. Thats why we need a cure.Theres a 25 year wait for group homes for the autistic, THATS how many people are needy and suffering.
@debiani3866 And NO, therapy {when you can afford 55 dollars for half an hour}doesnt work. It can help a lot, but its no cure. My sons school, paid for by the state ran 80 GRAND A YEAR. He is far better off as a person and I can live with him, but he will never be independent. Thats why we want a cure...for those we love and cannot speak for themselves.
i was dianosed with aspergers in 2002 . and if i really do have it , after seeing how beautiful you are , it make's me proud that aspergers people are beautiful outside and mostly on the inside . take care .
aspies have the most gorgeous eyes. every aspie I met has them. they haunt so well. as for eye contact? its more intriguing to only make eye contact with someone for a split second.
Amen. I think the I Am Autism vid is one of the most bloody absurd things I've ever seen. Autism is not even in the top twenty things that typically cause marital breakdown. What the hell are those people smoking?
@AspergersGirl The video refers to people who are seriously affected and cannot do 95% of what you can.And its about money...it costs an awful lot of money to support and care for a seriously autistic person, and most parents cant afford 150 thousand a year.
@linerider667 They are talking about the parents of seriously autistic kids who split up because of the tensions and the trouble. And yeah, its usually the dad who cant take it and leaves. Dont believe me??? Call Family Support Services of NJ and and ask how many single Moms are raising autistic kids alone.
Also, I've been researching my own benefits in the UK, and I have noted that the government is happy to pay at total of £119.85 for 35 hours of care. I need about that, and I currently receive £66.75. Also, the average rate of pay for a carer of an Autistic person is just under £10/hour here. So the government pay for 12 hours of care for me. Now consider that I have difficulty getting work. How am I going to pay the other £230.15, and pay my rent, and frankly, eat?
Thank You Autism is not something that needs to be "cured". It would be forcing people to be someone who they are not. Its kinda like saying that oh we dont want to have people of a cretan race around any more and no i am not saying that it would kill people but for some of us who hear that autism needs to be "cured" its kinda like you want to get rid of us. Keep in mind I am speaking for thows that I know and for thows who have a case of autism that keeps them from speaking.
I've got aspergers as well. I've been through thick & thin, and I've came out okay. I've still got a way to go to making the life I want, but I won't give up. Make sure you don't either, ok?
I am a 45 yr old Autistic man that finds your ASAN campaign is offensive. My Stop lying to everyone and talk to Autism Speaks in the Summit Meeting that we have contacted you about...
ASAN and all Aspergers groups will not even talk to us.......
This looks bad to the public!!!!!!!
We need to come together if you want to continue to call yourself Aspergers/Autistic....
Don't watch it then, its not exactly in your face like Autism Speaks one is. No-one from Autism speaks has contacted me. I don't know what on earth you're talking about.
Also, nice to know people involved with Autsim speaks are calling people WITH ASPERGERS "SCUM".
I was treated like a criminal going thru high school because of autism. I wasent allowed to do any thing, they called me and the others "flight risks"
ty for this vid i have add and autism and i get the same thing like im inferior when in fact im more creative and smarter then most people in my field
My son is anti-social...but not weird ...he just does not have friends but he loves his Mom and dad....we are divorced and he is an only child....I don't consider him autistic but ...a late bloomer for sure ....he is very good at school but just is not socially adjusted yet...what you think?
"People with Asperger's Syndrome have a learning disability when it comes to social issues." "A person with dyslexia can learn to read" "The same is true for someone with Asperger's Syndrome when it comes to socializing. "
Yeah give that a try, wish it was that simple but unfortunately it isn't and it isn't a learning disibility that's the difference between the autistic and aspie. Autistic has learning disibilitys and aspies don't.
Clearly you don't have autism or aspergers. Give us peace.
I fully agree. My nephew has autism and I'm always trying to tell people it's not something that needs fixing. It's who he is. There are sever types of Autism that needs more help but I've met severely autistic kids. They are so smart and brilliant. It's not a disease. I'm so glad you did this video
@invaderzooky If he can cope, hold down a job and have a life thats cool. But I think you need to visit the institutions where the autistics are wearing helmets, biting their fingers til they bleed and screaming 24/7. Mind if those are the ones we try to help??
@ivanova88 They are placed in institutions after the parents die or are too old to cope because they are very low functioning and therapy cannot help everyone. And not everyone is appropriate for a group home. And group homes are EXPENSIVE!!!! 100 grand a year.Thats why we need a cure!! AS cannot make government policy, they can only do their best to alert people to the need for research and a cure so people with devastating deficiencies can begin to lead normal lives.
@Taraterm2 i think you should research temple gran din and Amanda Braggs. they are two autistic woman who have been successful! and Amanda is low functioning. she stims a lot and can't talk. but gave her a computer and she will write her thoughts and views you should look at her blog. and temple with the therapy and teaching she got she was able to use her autism at a gift. she has even wrote books on it. one of them is called thinking in pictures. i would encourage you to read it.
@ivanova88 Having raised an autistic son and been involved with the life for 22 years I know of those woman and of course they are very admirable. But, they are also very self aware and expressive.....and the exception to the rule. The people in the videos represent a section of the autistic population who cannot speak or relate or do Anything...and parents should not be condemned for wanting their loved ones to be capable of having an independent future.
@ivanova88 Right now Im in the process of of fighting for services for my nonverbal autistic son{with OCD and epilepsy} There are very few programs for post 21 "seriously" autistic people in NJ, and they run only 5 hours a day...most dont include transportation. I drive 68 miles a day to take my son to a center I like because they are staffed by educated professionls who continue to therapize, rather than just drive everyone to the park to look at ducks.
@Taraterm2 You do realise of course that your sons condition is rare, even in the spectrum, and most people there don't ever get diagnosed. Please spare a thought to the rest of us that are persecuted daily by people who think we're wrong/sick/reetarded etc etc, how are they going to react to a cure and what will they demand from us and the governments... I know what, and I dread the very thought.
@ivanova88 Anyone with a fourth grade education should be able to see they are demonizing autism, not the individuals. They are the victims. And, sorry guys, when autism keeps you from speaking, reading, writing, playing, learning, growing and having a life, making friends, playing sports, going to school, having a job, driving a car getting married and being your own person its time for a cure.If you dont want a cure fine. But let us save the ones we love.
The problem with Autism Speaks is that it is the world's most prominent mainstream medical autism organization. As much as I hate idiots like Jenny McCarthy and JB Handley, Autism Speaks and the Autism Societies are far more dangerous as their research is not "mommy instinct." If they had their way, they would force people like me to face the buisness end of a loaded gun. However, I would rather die in a government-run death camp than be used by attention whores.
I don't consider Asperger's Syndrome autism. I really don't even consider it a syndrome. I consider it a personality type/learning disability.
People with Asperger's Syndrome have a learning disability when it comes to social issues. A person with dyslexia can learn to read and spell but it's always difficult and never second nature. The same is true for someone with Asperger's Syndrome when it comes to socializing.
Aspergers, like autism, is a developmental disability that is neurological in nature. Like the non-autistic population, autistic people and Aspergers people have a wide variety of personalities. No case is the same. Aspergers is thought to be a form of Autism, because it shares most of the traits, except for speech delay. They tend to be more verbal, as well. But, you got that right, socializing can be very tough. Getting that "emotion connection" I hear so much about is near impossible...
@Eyelash85 Autism is a pervasive neurological condition with varying degrees. You must be thinking of Fragile X or something, which has physical manifestation.
Thank you for helping to counter the assumption that just because we're Aspies, we're not autistic. That just because we can communicate, that we're faking it or something.
I am not as locked in to my head as some on the spectrum, but the front door is definitely stuck shut.
If you had to climb in and out of your windows to leave your house, you'd think it was odd to learn other people could use their front door, wouldn't you?
aspergers has absolutely nothing to do with mental retardation. it actually has a lot to do with the opposite of it, in fact. aspergers only comes down to trouble with nonverbal communication in social situations. I should know because i am an aspie myself. I was diagnosed because of the imbalance between my verbal and nonverbal IQ (125 and 95).
i also have aspergers, and i totally agree with you, people talk to me like i am 6, IM 15!!!!! my IQ IS 139!!!! these commercials make me look like a freak
It's really funny to think that everyone should be so universally the same. Asburgers and Autism; new labels designed to separate. It's kind of funny to see how just the idea of thinking your different becomes it's own self fulfilling prophesy. A set of frustrations that only serve to create an even greater gulf between feeling like one with everybody or seeing yourself as unattractively different. It's like
I don't think autism/aspergers ruins a marriage its the person that does it,even if we have ASD or autism we still have a personality and that could mean for example we are a nasty person etc. just like an NT person could have a nasty nature.

@renaissanceknight,
Why do you believe the lies that Autism Speaks tells you? They call you a "burden", "changling", "demon", "jigsaw puzzle" and every other autistic slur. Asperger's is autism. Autism is a spectrum. You must have been hanging out with those curebie parents for too long. If you had a more positive attitude about yourself, you would probably have a job. You're another of one of those "self-hating autistics", or "autistic Uncle Toms."

There is definitely a danger of future generations of aspies being eradicated through genetic screening before birth. It could even become "the responsible thing to do".

RhystaDude909 6 months ago
@RhystaDude909 1) I am autistic. Not "I have autism". One of these statements insinuates that something that has shaped and influenced every aspect of my existence is separate to me. Ergo, it is extremely offensive.
2) Reliable sources such as Attwood's colleagues will tell you autism is no more prevalent today than it was 20,000 years ago. What is different is that detection (as well as the negative consequences of being different) has increased.

cu601 4 months ago
@cu601 I hope to god that you are not planning a career in social services or the like. Because the people I know who do work in that field near where I live know the reality is quite different. The reason you are able to live a normal life is because people acknowledge you have a problem and respond to that appropriately. I, on the other hand, have to tell people constantly that inappropriate or mismatched help is NOT preferable to no help at all (in fact, it is worse).

Dolphidood 10 months ago
@Dolphidood It's not fun, cute and cuddly. People who don't have it just look on it like it's nothing. It's actually quite difficult.
AspergersGirl 10 months ago 11
@AspergersGirl Yes, it is difficult and I know because I have a very similar diagnosis to you and my best friend has aspergers but I guess what I'm saying is that I am sick of the people that look at it that way because it blocks the true awareness which is that it is difficult and then people don't take it seriously and then you have those that think they have it based on the incorrect stereotype. Ignorance isn't good so I was trying to inform people for the good of both disorders.
Dolphidood 10 months ago

Unfortunately, intelligent normie seems to be turning into an oxymoron.

caerleon87 8 months ago
@caerleon87 I didn't imply that to those that may as well just beat me up cuz they can't be bothered to read properly.
My point was that Aspergers is always in the spotlight of awareness which is unrealistic considering a whole spectrum of similar diagnosis's.
Quite a few people seem to get the idea that its this wonderful little identity that they can go an act on so that they will have a feeling of security about themselves and how others view them.
They have other mental issues.

Your comments ring of no truth instead of brainwashing I pity you
Quintega 1 year ago
@Quintega A cure could come in the form of medication or possible in utero gene therapy. The autistic people I speak of are the REAL autistic ones, ones who are completely helpless and cannot survive without 24/7 support, which oddly enough, most people here dont seem to be aware of.Everyone is yammering about their rights, but no one seems to want to help the seriously disabled autistics who make up a sizable portion of the population. They simply deny those people exist. How selfish.
Taraterm2 1 year ago
@Taraterm2 All autism is real and Medication cannot rewire a brain. Second you think LFA's are the only "REAL" autism? are you stupid LFA's are only a third of the SPectrum and the use of REAL is just nonsense. Why don't you shut up and get a lobotomy
Quintega 1 year ago
@Quintega Sigh...ok, dopie, take a listen.50 years ago schizophrenics were lobotomized and locked in attics cause there were no medications to help them, Today, although far from perfect, there are meds that can help schizophrenics live realtively normal happy lives. The same could prove true for autistic people .And I mean REALLY autistic people, ones defined by the word as living so deeply within themselves they could not even be typing out arguements in flawless English,
Taraterm2 1 year ago
@Taraterm2 this is the key difference schizophrenics still use the same brain wiring. Autism is completely different wiring its like telling a MAC your gonna cure it with a patch and make it a PC it doesn't work. Finally child stfu your just giving me more ammo to use against ignorant people in my report. If you keep it up I may need to ask your name. Also try and act like you are which is not smarter then me. My gift grants me the ability to perfectly memorize things of interest
Quintega 1 year ago
@Quintega Ill be happy to talk in front of your class any time. But you dont need me, just go to your local school district and ask to sit in on the classes for autistic kids where they laboriously teach, for hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of hours, the basic human behaviours nessesary for survival. At a cost, I might add, of 50 to 100 grand a year. That doesnt include bus transportaion by the way.
Taraterm2 1 year ago
Autism Speaks wants to to more or less eradicate autism by curing it---like saying you want to cure left handed people or gays. It's morally outrageous because by the time it's diagnosed, it's hard wired into your brain. The problem is that they want to cure children while they can, so they don't have to continue ignoring us adults-- and they can make us accomodate THEIR problems with us rather than our problems with the world. "Autism Speaks can go away. I have Autism. I can speak for myself."

@mylovesofmylife If they are high functioning yes. Those are called Asbergers people. But the traditional autistic patient requires a great deal of support and therapy, and most of them will wind up in institutions and group homes If they are lucky.{Tons of them are homeless on the streets} You would think Aspies would want to HELP their fellow, less lucky autism sufferers and push for funding and cures and not just yammer about how perfect They are.

you have aspergers?
LordNelson87 1 year ago

Taraterm2 1 year ago
@Taraterm2 let me ask you something how many HFA's have you even met. Did you know short of having Autism they are impossible to detect. If you live in a city I can guarantee there are 30 with in a mile radius of your house as for LFA's you would maybe have 10 in a 5 mile radius. LFA's are very very rare hence why you should spend hours doing research like I am for my report. Also do you know most HFA's have an outstanding IQ mines over 150 last time I was patent enough to sit still through one
Quintega 1 year ago
@Quintega Ive met my share. I suspect my brother in law is HFA.He does fine, although his life is pretty limited from an NT point of view. But hey, he is happy that way and he's sucessful, so, more power to him.But lower functioning autistics Used to make up the bulk of the population before everyone and his goldfish decided to call themselves autistic. You dont see them often on their own cause they are too low functioning to leave the house. But they are there.
Taraterm2 1 year ago
@Taraterm2 once again your facts are wrong. No there is a difference between Mental retardation and LFA. Next that isn't true. They leave their houses often. I know every autistic in my city LFA and HFA every single one. How because my report. I hunted down every single one only a third of the autistics are LFA and they aren'y hidden seriously what is wrong with you. LFA's never made up the bulk NEVER nor do they make parent's hide them. only ones I've seen like that are EXTREMELY LFA
Quintega 1 year ago
@Quintega Many autistics do have menatl redardation, that is a fact. Many dont. But its a huge challange either way.You really need to do your homework Hon, and call the DDD and ask them about support services thta real autistics require. Oh hey, just watch the video, there are all the examples you need of painfully helpless vulnerable autistic people who need curing before they can live independent lives.
Taraterm2 1 year ago
lower or higher functioning it's both autism they should be treated as the same when it comes to the treatments available. i have a child whos higher functioning and a son on the complete opposite side of the spectrum why does one get noticed more than the other in the medical services.
DadOf2AutisticBoys 1 year ago
@DadOf2AutisticBoys Like i said yesterday on another video of mine - they get noticed because they have an obvious disibility. You can't see high functioning autism/aspergers when you look at someone, so they don't take you seriously. I think the reason being is because people address the severity of the issue at hand.
AspergersGirl 1 year ago 2
@DadOf2AutisticBoys Its horribly expensive and theres too much bureaucracy. And sadly, too many people are fighting the need for a cure and life supports, for some weird reason...If you keep saying I LOVE BEING AUTISTIC!!!! its JUST DUCKY!!! politicians grin and withdraw money, hey, why pour funding into autism it if its not a problem??you think Aspies would want to help their severely affected brethern. but they dont.
Taraterm2 1 year ago

Todeskaefer 1 year ago
@Todeskaefer Yeah it's prettyabsurd tbh, I mean you could say anything causes a marrige breakdown.
AspergersGirl 1 year ago
Autism is NEVER the reason for marriage failure.
I managed 4 years with my ex girlfriend, yes we split up now, but she just put up with it like I put up with her smoking.
linerider667 1 year ago
@linerider667 All about accepting the other person and comprimise :)
AspergersGirl 1 year ago
@AspergersGirl Exactly! If you can't compromise then THAT is the reason for failure.
linerider667 1 year ago
@AspergersGirl The video refers to people who are seriously affected and cannot do 95% of what you can.And its about money...it costs an awful lot of money to support and care for a seriously autistic person, and most parents cant afford 150 thousand a year.
Taraterm2 1 year ago
@linerider667 They are talking about the parents of seriously autistic kids who split up because of the tensions and the trouble. And yeah, its usually the dad who cant take it and leaves. Dont believe me??? Call Family Support Services of NJ and and ask how many single Moms are raising autistic kids alone.
Taraterm2 1 year ago
@Taraterm2 Yeah you're entirely right, my dad left before I was born. Think in case you might insult someone next time.
linerider667 11 months ago
Also, I've been researching my own benefits in the UK, and I have noted that the government is happy to pay at total of £119.85 for 35 hours of care. I need about that, and I currently receive £66.75. Also, the average rate of pay for a carer of an Autistic person is just under £10/hour here. So the government pay for 12 hours of care for me. Now consider that I have difficulty getting work. How am I going to pay the other £230.15, and pay my rent, and frankly, eat?
linerider667 11 months ago
This is ambiguous and incites a negative view of the reality of autism

Good thing you speak up for us Aspies. :)

Rottfan105 1 year ago
I fully agree. My nephew has autism and I'm always trying to tell people it's not something that needs fixing. It's who he is. There are sever types of Autism that needs more help but I've met severely autistic kids. They are so smart and brilliant. It's not a disease. I'm so glad you did this video

@invaderzooky If he can cope, hold down a job and have a life thats cool. But I think you need to visit the institutions where the autistics are wearing helmets, biting their fingers til they bleed and screaming 24/7. Mind if those are the ones we try to help??
Taraterm2 1 year ago
@Taraterm2 if you want to help them why are they forced into institutions? how come autism-speaks hasn't freed them from that imprisonment?
ivanova88 1 year ago
@ivanova88 They are placed in institutions after the parents die or are too old to cope because they are very low functioning and therapy cannot help everyone. And not everyone is appropriate for a group home. And group homes are EXPENSIVE!!!! 100 grand a year.Thats why we need a cure!! AS cannot make government policy, they can only do their best to alert people to the need for research and a cure so people with devastating deficiencies can begin to lead normal lives.
Taraterm2 1 year ago
@Taraterm2 i think you should research temple gran din and Amanda Braggs. they are two autistic woman who have been successful! and Amanda is low functioning. she stims a lot and can't talk. but gave her a computer and she will write her thoughts and views you should look at her blog. and temple with the therapy and teaching she got she was able to use her autism at a gift. she has even wrote books on it. one of them is called thinking in pictures. i would encourage you to read it.
ivanova88 1 year ago
@ivanova88 Having raised an autistic son and been involved with the life for 22 years I know of those woman and of course they are very admirable. But, they are also very self aware and expressive.....and the exception to the rule. The people in the videos represent a section of the autistic population who cannot speak or relate or do Anything...and parents should not be condemned for wanting their loved ones to be capable of having an independent future.
Taraterm2 1 year ago
@ivanova88 Right now Im in the process of of fighting for services for my nonverbal autistic son{with OCD and epilepsy} There are very few programs for post 21 "seriously" autistic people in NJ, and they run only 5 hours a day...most dont include transportation. I drive 68 miles a day to take my son to a center I like because they are staffed by educated professionls who continue to therapize, rather than just drive everyone to the park to look at ducks.
Taraterm2 1 year ago
@Taraterm2 You do realise of course that your sons condition is rare, even in the spectrum, and most people there don't ever get diagnosed. Please spare a thought to the rest of us that are persecuted daily by people who think we're wrong/sick/reetarded etc etc, how are they going to react to a cure and what will they demand from us and the governments... I know what, and I dread the very thought.
Ackalan 1 year ago
Respond to this video...this is a good video with brilliant points people with on the autiistic spectrum shouldn't be considered monsters or demons
ivanova88 1 year ago
@ivanova88 Anyone with a fourth grade education should be able to see they are demonizing autism, not the individuals. They are the victims. And, sorry guys, when autism keeps you from speaking, reading, writing, playing, learning, growing and having a life, making friends, playing sports, going to school, having a job, driving a car getting married and being your own person its time for a cure.If you dont want a cure fine. But let us save the ones we love.
Taraterm2 1 year ago
You must be very mild Aspergers like me. You do not come across as a severe aspie
Aspergianstar2009 1 year ago 2
The problem with Autism Speaks is that it is the world's most prominent mainstream medical autism organization. As much as I hate idiots like Jenny McCarthy and JB Handley, Autism Speaks and the Autism Societies are far more dangerous as their research is not "mommy instinct." If they had their way, they would force people like me to face the buisness end of a loaded gun. However, I would rather die in a government-run death camp than be used by attention whores.

Eyelash85 1 year ago
I don't consider Asperger's Syndrome autism. I really don't even consider it a syndrome. I consider it a personality type/learning disability.
People with Asperger's Syndrome have a learning disability when it comes to social issues. A person with dyslexia can learn to read and spell but it's always difficult and never second nature. The same is true for someone with Asperger's Syndrome when it comes to socializing.
SepherStar 1 year ago
Thanks for the insight.
Eyelash85 1 year ago
Aspergers, like autism, is a developmental disability that is neurological in nature. Like the non-autistic population, autistic people and Aspergers people have a wide variety of personalities. No case is the same. Aspergers is thought to be a form of Autism, because it shares most of the traits, except for speech delay. They tend to be more verbal, as well. But, you got that right, socializing can be very tough. Getting that "emotion connection" I hear so much about is near impossible...
nxer 1 year ago
@Eyelash85 Autism is a pervasive neurological condition with varying degrees. You must be thinking of Fragile X or something, which has physical manifestation.
nxer 1 year ago
Thank you for helping to counter the assumption that just because we're Aspies, we're not autistic. That just because we can communicate, that we're faking it or something.
I am not as locked in to my head as some on the spectrum, but the front door is definitely stuck shut.
If you had to climb in and out of your windows to leave your house, you'd think it was odd to learn other people could use their front door, wouldn't you?

You don't even have assburgers because you don't even show any retardation.
ClydesRevenge 1 year ago
aspergers has absolutely nothing to do with mental retardation. it actually has a lot to do with the opposite of it, in fact. aspergers only comes down to trouble with nonverbal communication in social situations. I should know because i am an aspie myself. I was diagnosed because of the imbalance between my verbal and nonverbal IQ (125 and 95).
zcm007attack 1 year ago
@ClydesRevenge There is no mental retardation in aspergers. In fact, most people with aspergers are quite bright. unless you're just a troll?
nxer 1 year ago 2
@nxer It is a shame many people don't understand that aspergers is connected to the opposite of retardation.
It comes from complete ignorance.

It's like
