  • "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends."

    John 15:13

Chance I could tell was a great man even though I am not a soldier. He was ann honorable soldier and a true Marine. While I cannot say that I understand the brotherhood between you Marines and other soldiers, I can definitely say that I appreciate the sacrifice that you make. Thank you and God bless you all.

  • Saw the movie last night and it tore my heart up. Very impressed that his sister was a Navy Petty Officer, and her fiance an Army Sgt.. RIP Chance and Semper Fi from a retired Navy Corpsman

  • "Taking Chance" was an extraordinary film that ,for once, uses the war a backdrop, and not the main focus. This movie reminded me what it means to be a human being. When Officer Strobl was driving on top of the mountain, and the other cars flashed their brights in respect for a fallen marine, I almost cried. I haven't cried in a long time.

The film goes above and beyond in telling Chance's inspirational tale. Much respect to Chance and all of the other military personnel who sacrificealot

  • I have seen this movie, and i have seen fellow Marines being loaded onto a plane for their final ride home, and let me tell you, it is the hardest thing i have ever had to face my whole life. Seeing a fallen brother being loaded in a casket onto a plane, well lets just say, I hope none of you ever have to go through that, it haunts you everyday, its always there in your mind no matter what. To the Phelps family, and all the families of the fallen, i hope you find peace again in your life

  • Seems like a super classy family.

  • I saw "Taking Chance" today and could not stop myself from crying. It was one of the most touching stories I have seen. Thank you to Lt. Col. Michael Strobl for sharing his thoughts and heartfelt emotions about his journey as an escort for Chance. God bless Chance and all our fallen soldiers.

  • God Bless Chance and his family.

  • I too have seen the video and the making of it. I have the deepest respect for our men in women in uniform. Being born at NAS JAX and DAMN PROUD Navy, my heart goes out the Phelps Family and the families of all of our fallen hero's . I greatly thank you for posting this video. To all of our active duty Men and Women and your families, Thank you for my continued freedom...

  • Anytime one of my fellow Marines dies I feel the pain as all us Marines do! I hope there is a cold beer waiting for you Chance! I'm sure you went to Marine heaven! I hear they have free beer!! You are loved!

  • I've seen the movie as well, but when I saw this vid, I felt so emotional when I saw this.

I as a Filipino, would like to give my deepest condolences, and also my US Army cousin based in Georgia would like to give his deepest condolences to Pvt.1st Class Chance Russell Phelps.

He is an extraordinary soldier, at a rank of Private 1st class, he's received 8 medals and ribbons. He was a loving son and brother, and a dedicated soldier. My regards also and respect to Lt.Col. Michael Strobl.

  • Chance is my cousin.

  • I just finish watching this movie and I cried, I am not an American but I really do respect what these men and women are doing for their country. RIP to all the fallen soldier!!

  • I served in the army in Vietnam and have seen this at least 3 times. It's a very moving film and should have been been more highly publicized. I think it's Kevin

Bacon's finest film. I KNOW this Marine is in a better place and I salute him even though I'm only an army grunt as he is a man among men!!

  • 3/11 india bttry...semper fi !!!

  • Wow...just wow

  • Thank you Col Strobl.

"If the Army and the Navy,

    ever gaze on Heaven's scenes

The will find the streets are guarded

    by UNITED STATES MARINES."

  • I miss you Chance. I'll see you on the other side nephew. Uncle Chris

  • This movie was well done and it shows. I'm a soon to be retired soldier. This movie makes me remember why I joined in the first place. The respect we show each other and the bond we all share. Just as the LTC showed Chance to his final resting place. Thank you Chance. God bless you and rest in peace. My prayers will be with you and your family always.

  • I saw the movie and everytime I watch I cry... Its once the best movies I ever seen

  • ДЕВЧОНКИ

  • @cibik2 Pizda, ruskoya suka cini!

  • I know that there are many fallen soldiers. For me, I remember Robert Dean Stethem, who was murdered by Hezbollah terrorists on flight TWA 847 on June 15th, 1985. Stethem was in the Navy. When the highjackers discovered Stethem was American military, they beat him severely. When he wouldn't succumb to the beating, they shot him and dumped his body on the tarmac. I was watching TV when I saw the Hezbollah terrorists do this. I will never forget Stethem, or his sacrifice, in fighting Islam.

  • Semper Fi Marines! You ALL will be my brothers and sisters for the rest of my days!!

  • God Bless you PFC Phelps. Thank you for your sacrifice and may your smile and sense of humor brighten the halls of heaven just a little more. Semper Fi Marine!

  • Always Loyal!

    Semper Fi!

  • Last night i watched Taken Chance what a touching movie. I dont know what to say about Chance becouse i dont know who it was but after i whatched the film i think that Chance it was a great man .Rest In Peace Chance Phelps. Respect for you from Albania .

  • Last night i watched "Taken Chance " it was a very touching film. Your Spirit Rest In Peace. (***Im sorry for the mistakes becouse i dont speak english very well***) Respect for u from Albania

  • What a pity those in this country who seek to install socialism and communism in our great country lack the ability to understand the sacrafice made by this great American.

  • Being a Wyoming Combat Vietnam Vet', I want to thank you for a superb presentation. I did not know Chance but I did know Lt. "Shane" Childers, the first combat death. Your page is very moving and much welcomed. Thank you! God Bless you!

  • Thank you corporal chance for your valor and courage. I'm an italian soldier that worked close tou.s. troops for a long time,to them we own our freedom, for the sacrifice that men like chance did a long time ago for our troubled country. I wish i could tell his folks that people mourn for their losses in the other side off the world,

god bless you and your country.

  • God bless America. We're in Israel mourn with you.

  • LTC Strobl, thank you for your story. As a Singaporean, I have had the privileged of working with former USMC captain and have been inspired by his care, conduct and honour, which I have adopted as my own.

  • Every day I commit myself to pray for all service men and women of all the coalition forces in Afghanistan and Iraq, for their safety and care. I ask that all of us who care about the sacrifice and duty of all servicemen - military and civilian, and the media and support services - always remember them in your prayer.

  • Freedom exacts a great price, which only the best of us are prepared to pay. LTC Strobl's own experience brought out what it means to remember that sacrifice, with dignity, respect and honour. Any of us who have served our own countries as military men know what this means. For our own lives, civilisation and culture to have meaning, this must never be forgotten. LCP Chance Phelps story represent those of many; it hurts because we feel their sacrifice.

  • RIP BROTHER , and thank you too all you men and women still serving, freedom isn't free

  • We all need to remember all our military men and women who have given there lives for our country and freedom. Let us never forget. God bless you Chance and all who have served and are serving today.

  • Being a Desert storm vet myself, i know what it's like to lose a friend in combat. Watching Taking Chance brought back alot of feelings and memories. From the bottom of my heart, I pray that the family finds peace and comfort in knowing that Chance is at peace. Rest in peace my brother.

  • thank you so much for fighting

  • Though I am soldier from another foreign land. I pay my respects to another fallen miltary man.

  • I feel privileged to have had a chance to know a little bit about Phelps thru this video...he is an inspiration...

  • CHANCE RIP! We Always will remeber you!

  • I just saw this movie and cried through most of it. Have a box of kleenyx close by. The American public truly cares about their soldiers. Col. Mike Strobel wrote a moving account of his journey to take Chance home. Kevin Bacon did justice to this story. Lance Corporal Chance Phelps, I will always remember you.

  • I just saw the movie. I cried most of the way through it. Everyone should see "Taking Chance."

The American public truly cares about our soldiers, as is seen through Co. Mike Strobel's stirring account. Kevin Bacon does this moving story justice. Thank you for your service, Lance Corporal Chance Phelps. You will always be remembered.

  • chance ur the best man...rip!!

  • Chance was definitely the man. I totally agree. I will never forget his ultimate sacrifice for our country.

Thank you LANCE CORPORAL CHANCE PHELPS.

  • Rest in peace Chance!

  • Wow the escort really does look a lot like kevin bacon.

  • i referenced the marine corps times website, simply search the title 'corps lowers drinking age' and it will be the first and only article to appear.

  • okay no im 15 and my dad is COL and he was the camp commander for our base in OKINAWA. he always is giving me lectures mentioning the teenage marines he had to discipline for underage drinking. i was making my comment based on what i learned and observed living my entire life on various USMC installations. the end of the article on the marinecorpstimes online they mention the differences in policy in JAPAN versus the US.

  • as i see you furthered your explaination i understand now that you ment only under certian conditions but your first comment gave the impression that 18 and over drinking was ALWAYS legal and that my comment gave the impresstion that it was NEVER legal. im sorry for the confusion but no need to get so angry about my one line comment, did it occur to you that im a 15 year old girl that can be reinstructed about the policies from someone with more knoledge instead of telling me to shut my mouth

  • and yes im a competitive gymnast, and because there is no tour offering gymnastics, i competed off base for a local JAPANESE team.

  • Comment removed

  • My DAD was the CO of 3/11 in IRAQ during the tour that CHANCE PHELPS was killed on good friday. Now the mess hall in 29 is named for Phelps.

also the marines of lima battery that went to see chance over memorial day, the picture shown at 6:53 has been my dads desktop for four years.

  • not old enough to buy a beer, but old enough to fall for his country...god bless and thank you all for your service!...future navy serviceman right here!

  • When you join as long as your 18 you can drink on base and over seas

  • i do not believe that is true AT ALL.

  • You know what the funny thing is I enlisted when I was 17 and when I turned a18 my C-O informed me that as an 18 year old Marine you can drink on base in the USA and overseas... Now I am commisioned read all the guid-ons and yes you can. SO IF YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT YOUR TALKING ABOUT SHUT YOUR MOUTH. cDUMB CIVI

  • okay well in OKINAWA, as a MARINE stationed overseas it is ILLEAGAL to drink under the age of 21, and i CAN GUARANTEE THAT.

  • What is you MOS? and are you a POG? Because I just looked at your profile and apprt you are a gymnist. Last time I checked there is no tour that offers gymnastics. You can not drink while on a tour you can though go on leave and drink brainy... When you are on a US base returning from duty you can drink as long as you have your ID card and tags

  • hey man I am a graduate of USNA and now a major in the Marines... Good luck with the school it will be hard but good 4 years! OHH RAH

    Semper FI

  • I am 1st Marine Division Captain and I love this movie and I think it was the best movie I probably have ever seen

  • My husband and I just finished watching "Taken Chance." What a very touching movie. Kevin Bacon did an excellent job playing the roll of Lieutenant Colonel Mike Strobel. Chance Phelps, "May you rest in the Lords Arms in Peace young man." Colonel Strobel, all my respect to you for escorting this young man home to his family. Semper Fi. Thank you for your service to all of our Military. Thank you for giving me nights of rest. None of us like war, but until this world ends, it will continue.

  • semper fidelis Marines.

  • God bless Chance Phelps as well as all of our fallen heroes. From a US Army veteran, Semper Fi. Hooah?

    1st Cavalry Division

    Garry Owen sir!

  • marines do take care of each other because we are a band of brothers ohhhrahhhh!!!!!

  • This young man gavehis life for his country as many others have. We may not all agree on if war is right or wrong, but the ability to be able to have an opinion and state it freely is what all in the military give/gave their life for. The negative and tumultuous individuals who write hate in a video comment section, are the very breed of human waste we need to erradicate fro this great nation. God Bless you Phelps family, and all others as well!!!!

  • Please take your hate and ignorance elsewhere. This isnt a page for political or religous arguements. Show some respect and grow up.

    Semper Fi

  • Couldnt have said it better my self... oohrah.

  • Chance Phelps will stay in our families hearts, we watched "Taken Chance" on July 4th. We learned so much. Our hearts ached and our faces stayed drenched with tears. I too hate war and do not understand, however I do know that war does exsist, and I am proud. Do not be so critical, the good Ol' USA that you and I live in is a better place because of Chance Phelps today! Thank you to all the branches of military, the men and women who keep our country safe and free.

  • Chance was my Nephew. I loved that kid..but he was truly a man..one of a kind that's for sure.

  • God bless from Colombia!

  • Blessed be the lord my strength which teacheth my hands to war and my fingers to fight my goodness and my fortress my high tower and my deliverer my shield an he in whom i trust. PSALM 144 From deserts of sand to streets of gold rest in peace BROTHER

  • Why would God teach you to war ?

  • If god did not teach us to war where did we learn it from? below is psalms 144 out of the bible its his words he said it so it must be true. thank you

  • So, why did God give Moses the 10 commandments?, of which one was clearly and strictly stated.

    " Thou shalt not kill"

There were no words in between. It wasn´t

" Thou shalt not kill, except if, or maybe when. It was a clear and definite Law.

And, this is from the Christian Bible, so it MUST be true, as you said yourself.

    Respectfully.

  • You must know more than the 10 commandments this is psalms new testament proverbs ths small bible was givin to me before i was sent to iraq and in my spare time i read and tried to make since of it psalms 144 made me feel a understanding it made me feel better knowing that even knowing its a sin to kill that god knows we have no choice but to follow orders man was made to sin we all do every day all you can do is repent thank you

  • I´m sorry to hear you are in Iraq. I hope you have a loving family who keep you in their thoughts. Be safe.

    kind regards

    ML

  • I do have a loveing family but i am no longer in iraq

  • Very glad to hear that. Are you still in Service ?

  • no im done i'll never go back

  • Semper Fi to all marines... I was a member of 3/ll back in the late 90's. Assigned to Hq's Bty Comm Plt. I didnt know Chance was with 3/ll until I seen the movie and in the deleted scene part there was a marine who said he was with 3/ll. God fights on the side with the best artillery...
