I've gone 130 mpg on gps in a powerstroke deisel 4x4 with two quads in the bed goin up grapevine at s'not 2am playing this song.one of the best memories I have
I bought a 1959 VW bus with a Buick V-6 in the back, and drove over the Grapevine at 110 late one night... I'm tellin ya... It was more exciting than my 1969 Lincoln!!!
no wonder my dad was a big rodger miller fan. he recently broke out a bunch of vintage pictures of liqour cars his dad built for locals looking to make a fast buck runnin booze into dry counties. crazy mechanical combinations that hauled ass. im thinking when nascar legend junior johson said the fastest car he ever drove was a liquor car, he wasnt bull shitn.in one picture there was a warehouse full of federal siezed cars turns out grandpa built most of em. gooooooo capitalism.....
I got me a '91 XJS 12-cyl, and she won't do shit in the quarter, but let's y'all git 'er out on the flats, and I'll wipe anything you got right offt he map!
@TheBubbles9 I hate when people say ignorant things like this. There are actually some songs that I like by Justin Bieber, and I wouldn't even think about clicking the dislike button. Just because you don't like certain music doesn't make it shit. Seems like you have a lot to learn.........
I'm ignorant and have a lot to learn because I think your flavor of the week, generic pop music crowd just might be the first to dislike a classic rock/country song?
it's youtube, yeah the odds I'm right are pretty good...
as for not liking a certain music genre that the industry crams down the worlds throat and calls popular music does make it shit in my book. after all, this comment was just "my opinion"
@TheBubbles9 "flavor of the week," are we at a restaurant now?
It's youtube. There are more choices than just this kind of music and the "certain music genre that the industry crams down the worlds throat and calls popular music." :)
AND -- This version is true to the original Charlie Ryan version. As in "Got twelve cylinders, uses'em all" - it was a V-12 Lincoln motor, a 396 cu in , HUGE for the day.
@presidentbren as someone who owns a Honda Im pissed off i cant afford a nice Chevy or Ford, its all about American Muscle, but its stupid people drive their civics pimp them out and they think thats what racing is about. your correct.
@utube4gar It was actually 12 cylinders. Charlie Ryan who wrote this song and did the original version tells the story behind it. If I remember correctly he bought himself a brand new lincoln right after he got out of the military and that is the car he is referencing in the song. It had 12 cylinders, not 8. The 8 cylinders came from Commander Cody and his Lost Airmen 30 something years later.
sounds like he's reading the lyrics. the band rocks but no soul in the vox. check out johnny bond or commander cody's version. dont get me wrong.... i love roger miller's stuff!
That was one of the early Rockabilly versions of that tune. Roger Miller's version came out about the same year as Johnny Bond's did, in 1960. Charlie Ryan did the original version just a few years before that. Commander Cody did a version of that tune many years later, in the early 70's, and doesn't sound anything nearly like those three old Rockabilly versions did.
An apostrophe alone can never indicate plural. It's ONLY used for ownership or abbreviation. You would say, "there are three MDs in the room", & "the MD's bag has been opened". For plural, you would say, "the three MDs' bags have arrived". You should never say "there are three MD's in the room".

The Author of this song, Charlie Ryan, wrote it in 1950, recorded it in 55 and released it in 57. His 'ORIGINAL' version is by far the best although there have been a couple others who have done it all right. Johnny Bonds 'may' have been the 2nd person to record it. Commander Cody did a hack job on it and I've disliked the jerk ever since I heard what he did to it the first time.
I thought I was the only one that didn't like the Commander Cody's version as I call it":Crapola". Roger's version is good, as is Johnny Bond's, but Charlie Ryan's is the best.
Quoting from Wikipedia: "Hot Rod Lincoln was written by Charlie Ryan and W. S. Stevenson. "
"Hot Rod Lincoln" is an "answer song" to a song called "Hot Rod Lincoln" - the opening lines about "You heard the story of the hot rod race, when the Fords and the Lincolns was settin' the pace..." refer to that song.
@niefmer ..... actually it Isn't a Roger Miller song Hot Rod Lincoln was written by Charlie Ryan (who had also recorded a version of Hot Rod Race) and W. S. Stevenson. Roger Miller covered it pretty damn good though and Commender Cody had the biggest hit.
