OH my LORD...that's so bad. It definitely a SJB song. Idina definitely made the Wizard and I, and I'm glad that Stephen Schwartz noticed that Idina couldn't handle THIS song + Defying Gravity + No Good Deed in the same show. This one already sounds much harder and so much more complicated.
@SMSProductions1 no offense but Idina could handle this...Stephen Schwartz would not just take a song out because it was "too hard" this song just did NOT fit Idina's voice nor her personification of Elphaba...I think she handled this song well (not as well as SJB did but SJB had/has a very interpretation of Elphaba) and WAI is much harder towards the end
and for those who think that we only love Kristin and Idina because they were the originals, remember that all the songs from the musical are based around their vocals. We wouldn't be hearing the wonderful songs if it weren't for Idina and Kristin. I'm sure that if others were the originals the songs would be great too, but i couldn't imagine the songs any different

We all love Elphie cuz of the way Idina made it and she provided a foundation for the Elphies that came and are to come. The same with Kristin. besides this is a workshop. as far as i know, workshops are conducted to see how good the song is for the actor or how good the actor is at a certain role.
i do agree with percy.... but don't you think idina's voice and vocal performance improved so much in between the workshops/readings and the actual finished show... surely if they kept this in she would've improved her dynamics and the song would've certainly matched her

No, SJB and Idina were both part of it from the very beginning. There is no "first Elphaba". Idina was the original Broadway Elphaba but not the first to sing all of the songs. Stephen Schwartz mentioned that some songs were written for Idina and others for SJB.

Wow...this is amazing. I can see why they put in TWAI instead, not that this isn't totally amazing. TWAI fits alot better, but I love this so much!! I wish this could've been on the Soundtrack, kind of like "Tear it up and Throw it Away" was on the Avenue Q soudntrack, and it's not even in the show!
I think it's because the cast recording of Wicked tells a story much more than the Ave Q cast recording. And also Making Good has WAI as a direct replacement so it would be sort of redundant on the album. It's a nice song though.

They are both great songs, The Wizard and I and this one. However, they both have a decent amount of irony. More obvious ones: "When people see me they will scream." "I'll stand there with the Wizard feeling things I've never felt." "I'd be so happy I could melt." "I'll want nothing else 'til I die."
Either of the songs add a good amount of irony to the play, and to No Good Deed.
but if the wizard and i had been the original song, and this was the one in the show now, and u heard wizard and i in a workshop version, ud prolly like it better.
what's interesting is that stephanie j. block is working with stephen shwartz on this song. so perhaps in the future you'll here a more refined version of this song sung by a fellow/original elphaba. (my source?...a interview by broadway dot com)

I actually think that they took this out and put TWAI in a different place... this is supposed to be when she arrives at Shiz and the Wizard and I is AFTER she arrives... this would fit right after dear old shiz before the whole rooming scene... and plus TWAI talks about a completely different thing...
This one talks about what she could do
and TWAI talks about her hopes to be with the wizard... they could have them both but it might be a little confusing all together

Wow...this is amazing. I can see why they put in TWAI instead, not that this isn't totally amazing. TWAI fits alot better, but I love this so much!! I wish this could've been on the Soundtrack, kind of like "Tear it up and Throw it Away" was on the Avenue Q soudntrack, and it's not even in the show!

I think it's because the cast recording of Wicked tells a story much more than the Ave Q cast recording. And also Making Good has WAI as a direct replacement so it would be sort of redundant on the album. It's a nice song though.

I would love to have this song in the play as well as TWAI but i think most people wouldnt like it unless they are big fans because it would be carrying out one part too long but i would so love it.

I like this song! It's quite good. Good range. And parts of it kind of reminds me of "The Wizard of Oz" score...Idina is rocking this. It's good to hear her singing this. I like it!

I think the reason they didnt use it was because it was writen for stephanie j block and doesnt fit idina that well. Thats why idina best song is wizard and I. it was the only one really written for her voice. I would like to hear stephanie sing this song.

ok you did not need to get rude i was not trying to be rude.. but it's not because the song did not fit idina.. it has nothing to do with it .. it just seems silly to me and it seems like you need to do more research... SJB was not elphaba because she did not have a big enough name it was in the grimerie..(idk it i spelt that right)i was not trying to to be rude... both sjb and idina are amazing actresses and they both can sing these songs.. i bet Stephan decided to go with a more upbeat song..

you need to do a little research. sjb was the original elphaba so they wrote all the songs to fit her voice. you are right though sjb didnt have a big enough name, but that was after they wrote the songs. I'm sorry if i seem rude but I'm not trying to be.

They are both great songs, The Wizard and I and this one. However, they both have a decent amount of irony. More obvious ones: "When people see me they will scream." "I'll stand there with the Wizard feeling things I've never felt." "I'd be so happy I could melt." "I'll want nothing else 'til I die."
Either of the songs add a good amount of irony to the play, and to No Good Deed.

what's interesting is that stephanie j. block is working with stephen shwartz on this song. so perhaps in the future you'll here a more refined version of this song sung by a fellow/original elphaba. (my source?...a interview by broadway dot com)
