  • :D I like the line: "a certain governer will be there, claiming credit for this magic child of his, boasting how proud he is of ME!" I think it shows how much she wants her father's love. <3

  • They should have kept both songs... They're both great! :)

  • Wow!!! Y would they cut this song? Its awesome

  • WHY?! Why would they pull this out?

  • I love both TWaI and Making Good but TWaI fits Idina better.

  • Awesome song! As always Idina does it justice :) is there anyway that you could send me the audio?

  • THANKS THANKS THANKS, oh my gosh, thaaaanks xD !!!

I love both Idina and Steph's versions, but ...well, Idina is Idina ;)

  • @alexhika You're welcome! =]

  • I don't like this version as much. If you listen to SJB's version from the Wicked 5th anniversary CD, that version of Making Good is a lot better.

I mean, theyre quite similar, but there are noticeable differences as well. Idina sings this great, but I prefer SJB. Idina sounds like she's sort of screaming here.

  • OH my LORD...that's so bad. It definitely a SJB song. Idina definitely made the Wizard and I, and I'm glad that Stephen Schwartz noticed that Idina couldn't handle THIS song + Defying Gravity + No Good Deed in the same show. This one already sounds much harder and so much more complicated.

  • @SMSProductions1 no offense but Idina could handle this...Stephen Schwartz would not just take a song out because it was "too hard" this song just did NOT fit Idina's voice nor her personification of Elphaba...I think she handled this song well (not as well as SJB did but SJB had/has a very interpretation of Elphaba) and WAI is much harder towards the end

  • I think they should have kept it in (with all the songs that are actually in the musical) i think its a good song :) x

  • and for those who think that we only love Kristin and Idina because they were the originals, remember that all the songs from the musical are based around their vocals. We wouldn't be hearing the wonderful songs if it weren't for Idina and Kristin. I'm sure that if others were the originals the songs would be great too, but i couldn't imagine the songs any different

  • @elliosmi Ur right, but if SBJ were the first we would have seen a different Elphaba, the way SBJ may have first seen her. We all love Elphie cuz of the way Idina made it and she provided a foundation for the Elphies that came and are to come. The same with Kristin. Glinda was literally made for Cheno, that's why she is blonde in the musical :). I wonder how much different it would have been if Kristin didn't originate Glinda.....

  • oh, dear...

    i'm sticking with TWAI

    xxxxx

  • i dont think this song is as good for her as the wizard and i =] still sound pretty good tho =]

  • AS much as I love Idina, SJB does sing this better...Not all Idina fans are that crazy! Just some of us....and SJB was originally asked to be Elphie but Idina did it so make your comments but...

oh she butchered the last note..yikes Idina.

  • SJB sings this so much better

  • @scottywrong I agree 100%

  • don't waste your breath..idina fan boys and girls are among the worst..they will defend her to the death

  • thers a very good reason for that

  • well yes. :p but i also love SJB.

besides this is a workshop. as far as i know, workshops are conducted to see how good the song is for the actor or how good the actor is at a certain role.

  • i like this:))

  • i do agree with percy.... but don't you think idina's voice and vocal performance improved so much in between the workshops/readings and the actual finished show... surely if they kept this in she would've improved her dynamics and the song would've certainly matched her

personally i think SJB murdered it on the 5th anniversary cd... i now get why they auditioned for a new elphaba... and thus idina was found and elphaba evolved!!! lol

    xoxo

  • i dont think so...

  • This is an amazing. If you get the 5th anniversy editoin its on there.

  • HOLY GOD I'VE BEEN LOOKING FOR THE COMPLETE VERSION FOR AGES!!!!!

you honestly have no idea how much of my day you've just made ^_^

  • lol =]

  • she is so ridiculously amazing!!!!!!! better than stephanie's recording on the s.e. cd....i LOVE idina!!!!!

  • i love this song :D the wizard and i is better but this is still fantastic :Da nyone know where i can it online? or anyone know where you buy the 5th aniversairy cd in australia because i havnt seen it

  • the magic of iTunes

  • i think idina sings this so well, but i can see y stephen schwartz wanted another song for her- the wizard and i, its more powerful and demanding, her voice is almost too powerful for this song, if u see what i mean, stephanie has a powerful voice, no denying that but this song suits her more, becasue its just right (god i sound like goldilocks and the three bears!) well thats y i think schwartz chose another song

  • This song is good but for a different show. I think TWAI sounds better for Wicked because it sounds a little more mature and passionate. I could see Nessa singing this song, maybe, but I still prefer TWAI for Wicked.

  • i like some of the melody changes in this version, but i can see why they changed it, it is a bit out of natural range

  • no they didnt! idina was the very first elphaba....she did all of the workshops and then stephanie came in just recently...

  • they didn't do any workshops of wicked, they just did readings, and SJB was the first to read and sing the role of elphaba

  • No, SJB and Idina were both part of it from the very beginning. There is no "first Elphaba". Idina was the original Broadway Elphaba but not the first to sing all of the songs. Stephen Schwartz mentioned that some songs were written for Idina and others for SJB.

  • this is a HIT!!!! it's instead of "the wizard and i"? Oh dear... have 'em both. THIS IS A HIT!!! Why did it get cut?

  • I wonder that too; this was an amazing song! But it was originally written fer SJB, and I think Steven Schwartz wanted something different fer Idina.

  • This is probably the only song that was cut that I feel is actually as good as the newer ones. I understand why it was cut, because of the train and everything. It's very similar in theme to the Wizard and I, though, and I like them both.

  • ok guys this is Idina singing but on the 5th edition soundtrack stephanie sang it

  • this is sooo idina. i saw her in concert. i would know. but this is different lyrics than the one on the 5th anniversary cd.

  • love it!

  • I LUV IDINA!!! this song is amazing!

  • Its not Idina.

  • I think you'll find it is :)

  • 100% Idina.

  • that end note is really weird. But i love this song! its so cool

  • that is so not steph..i am a huge idina fan and that is definately her voice!

  • i mean on the new cd...

  • is idina singing it?

  • no idina is :-)

    nice try though

  • Was this removed from the show before it was first performed?

  • Yep

  • I'm so excited that the special edition cd will have this song on it! ahhh! =)

  • when is it comming out??? :]

  • A little late but the answer is yes. =]

  • Can you send me this? Please!!!!

  • "the shouts of love will BURN through the air"

love that line and the whole thing actually (:

  • me tooooooo!!!!!!!!!!

  • GO IDINA GO! Love this!

  • i think they could of added just a few more scenes with nessa and her sister together as u only really learn about their relationship abit in 3 scenes... but in the book its one of the main things. They could of made nessas charactor much bigger. But i still love it and think its the only musical with no faults!

  • this is awesome!!! i really hope someone sings this at the "yellow brick road not taken" benefit!!!

  • i'm glad they made it so she isn't singing to Nessa... cos when I think of Elphaba singing this to Nessa I just imagine Nessa looking at her watch and filing her nails then leaving halfway through and leaving Elphaba singing to herself

  • I love the complex accompaniment and simple melodies all throughout the show. It kinda ups the magical factor.

  • i love this song :D

  • is this idina, i like the wizard and i more but this is really cool

  • Yes, it's Idina. :3

  • i loooove this song!!

  • Unlimited, think of it Nessa

    The future is Unlimited

    And, don't laugh

I have a vision almost like a prophecy, Nessa

    You can call me crazy

    True, the vision's hazy

But I swear someday there'll be

A celebration throughout Oz, that's all to do with me

    You'll see

  • At long long last, I'm making my way

    Out of here

    Erase the past

And as of today, clean and clear

    Today I start my quest

    To find my special destiny

Be more than just the best I could

    I'll be making good

Cause in my gut, I know I can do, something great

  • I don't know what yet, but when I'm through, just you wait One day see all I've done, they'll tell me you're so wonderful We wish back then we'd understood, you'd be making good Good, I'll be making good Undertaking new inventions or discoveries Maybe find a cure for some disease Maybe make some great injustice cease Or perhaps create a masterpiece Something that astounds Something that amazes Something that has everybody singing my praises
  • The shouts of love will burn through the air And what's more A certain governor will be there Claiming credit for This magic child of his, boasting how proud he is of me For doing things the wizard would not even contemplate So they can, go ahead and laugh 'Til their sides are aching But if I do half what I feel inside me waking They'll be cheering after I have finished making good No, not making good Making Great
  • does anyone know where i can get the lyrics to this song???

  • Maybe on the fansite of Stephen Schwartz? (Composer of Wicked).

    I'll search for you :)

  • OMG!!! I LOVE this! i actually like it better than twai sometimes. can i download this newhere?favorites!!!

  • i like that better than the wizard and i

it's more... ambitious and more youthful than the wizard and i - the last not is a very high note that must be hard to hit - i can't really hit it anyways because i'm a boy but i can still belt really high

  • I agree

I think sometimes when she sounds screechy its alot to do with the recording itself

    :D

  • y was that cut? its a really good song

  • she sounds amazing on the cd, but i agree with you- she's 1000000000 million times better live. her voice sounds much richer and more natural and just absolutely gorgeous.

  • The 'Something that astounds

    Something that amazes

Something that has everybody sing my praises' bit is sssssssssoooooooo good! They should have kept that bit in!

The last note's slightly high though!

  • totally agree with you chocolatescones...

  • What are the lyrics to this song?

  • gotcha...i'm a big idina fan so yea

but i definitely agree she sounds awesome here with the exception of a few notes, but i thought she also sounded great on the cd so maybe it's just me...

  • this is good except the wizard and i is much better plus this is too slow for the show.

  • what!?? this is much faster than the wizard and i and you can feel the pulse pushing faster

  • this is good except the wizard and i is much better plus this is too slow for the show.

  • i did NOT mean to thumbs up this!

  • this song is beautiful, however i think the current wizard and i song is more appropriate for the musical becuz of the character development. its just too much of a drastic character change into songs, such as defying gravity which follow

  • i agree. and also, i think, because this is the first time you hear elphaba sing, the song needs to leave a big impact. the wizard and i does that better than this song, in my opinion.

ps, this so reeeeeally gets stuck in your head!

  • yer i also agree.

    i realli like this song

    and the wizard and i

but i thibk that the wizard and i fits into the musical so much better and makes more people understand her charaector more

  • it definitely does!

  • i wish they would've kept this in and added wizard and i as well...

and this was just a workshop right?...it wasn't part of the SF Previews right

  • No it wasnt part of the SF previews it was just the workshop

  • Thanks :-D

  • this is good i like it but the wizard and i is good

  • could you send me the link? i can't find :[!

  • at 1:52-1:53 it sounds like there is missing a part?!

  • i ADORE this song!! idina's vibrato sounds amazing here, it's so much better live than recorded.

  • ya, think of how cool it would be with like a whole orchestra...then it would sound really good! This song is sounds good like this too though=D

  • I LOVE IT

  • Where was this recorded? San Fransisco tryal show?

Its amazing!! I love it how and when Idina/Elphie goes "and.... don't laugh..."

    Thanks for posting

  • wow idina sounds amazing in this clip...i think this song really grows on you. i've listened to it about 7 times now and i love it. but not as much as the wizard and i

  • I listened to the whole workshop last night for the first time ... I just traded for it there isnt ONE song thats the same .. I LIKE THier changes!! (how it is now) it sounds too much like a talent show how it originally was... LOL :P

alsoI agree Idina sounds like a YOUNG'N here LOL

  • Wow! This is amazing! But where did it come from? (not the musical, and I know who sings it, but I've never heard of this version of the piece)

  • it was originally supposed to be part of the show, but they replaced it w/ wizard and I

  • OMG I LOVE DEE'S VOICE!!!!

  • this isn't dee rosicali or however you spell it...it's idina menzel!

  • But don't they say Dee, and sometimes mean Idina. Because Dee is like short for Idina. Because I thought someone was talking about Dee R. but they were actually talking about Idina. SO yeah, okay. Just saying, is that just me, or do other people say Dee for Idina. I am just kinda wondering, not like yelling at, bashing, or anything...Oh gosh. Lol

But anyway, I LOVE IDINA!! This is great!!

  • idina fans call her dee for short cause it was a childhood nickname.

  • thnk you vry much for the WHOLE song=)

  • Idina will always be better than Kerry Ellis and no-one can deny that Idina is amazing

  • Idina is amazing, yes, and I LOVE Idina to deaht. But I'd have to disagree with you and say that Kerry Ellis is better. I absolutely AH-DORE Kerry.

  • This song is GREAT! it's really meant for Idina's voice

  • :D I love this!!!

  • Wow! I'd love to hear Kerry El;lis singing this, she'd be even more amazing than Idina (And that's saying something!)

  • I love that "you'll seee"

  • I actually think that they took this out and put TWAI in a different place... this is supposed to be when she arrives at Shiz and the Wizard and I is AFTER she arrives... this would fit right after dear old shiz before the whole rooming scene... and plus TWAI talks about a completely different thing...

This one talks about what she could do

and TWAI talks about her hopes to be with the wizard... they could have them both but it might be a little confusing all together

  • In this song she is talking to Nessarose and it's before she goes to Shiz.

  • Yeah they could have both, they're in completly different places and about different things

  • love it. nice rythm but i guess twai does fit better

  • i think i like this more than the wizard and i because elphies thinking what she can do without the wizard

  • me again, and yet again, tysm for the song lol=) it's kinda cool to make a comparison between some of idina's most recent videos of wicked and this. I love the lyrics to this=)

  • It's amazing how much things can change in just a few years....isn't it? :D

  • yes. Please, please let her go back to musicals D:

  • Oh sweet Oz I pray she does!! I know she's working on a movie, so is Kristin. Kristin's working on Tinkerbell, she's playing a fairy. I don't know what Idina's working on...

  • Scratch that, She's working on Enchanted

  • who kristin or idina?

  • Idina....Kristin is working on Tinkerbell

  • Wow...this is amazing. I can see why they put in TWAI instead, not that this isn't totally amazing. TWAI fits alot better, but I love this so much!! I wish this could've been on the Soundtrack, kind of like "Tear it up and Throw it Away" was on the Avenue Q soudntrack, and it's not even in the show!

  • I think it's because the cast recording of Wicked tells a story much more than the Ave Q cast recording. And also Making Good has WAI as a direct replacement so it would be sort of redundant on the album. It's a nice song though.

  • argh!!! thank you thank you thank you so much for this!!! i love this song!! woo!!! :D Idina is AMAZING!!!! :D xox

  • you're welcome you're welcome you're welcome

    lol =]

  • This is so sweet! I love it! TWAI in truth is better, but this is musically astounding! Complex like no good deed! And so nice for huge fans! Thanks so much!

    And Idina sounds AMAZING!

  • it's a musical play right?

  • omg i can't believe i just noticed this lol but thank you so much for the video=) it was nice of you to download the whole song for us wicked fans to hear =)

  • oh sorry thats what i ment.

  • I would love to have this song in the play as well as TWAI but i think most people wouldnt like it unless they are big fans because it would be carrying out one part too long but i would so love it.

  • cool then that must make me a pretty big fan just as i've always thought(since i first saw wicked)=)i would like to have this song in wicked as well as TWAI=) too

  • Wasn't this changed to "For Good"? Or is this just a whole 'nother song?

  • yo ppl it's me again, i love hearing it, i'm so close to memorizing it now=)lol

  • hahaha you know there's a kareoke version with the lyrics right? Not that I want you to stop view THIS video. By all means come by everyday! =]

  • i know, i've seen that video....but i mean u know when i can't use my computer, and when i'm off it, i've memorized it on my own=)ty though

  • I like this song! It's quite good. Good range. And parts of it kind of reminds me of "The Wizard of Oz" score...Idina is rocking this. It's good to hear her singing this. I like it!

  • i watch this every day that's y i have so many comments lol =)

  • both are really cool(wizard and i plus this), i've even kinda memorized most of the words to this song=)it's catchy lol

  • i really like this song..honestly i think i like it a little better than the wizard and i

  • I think its the better song but the Wizard and I FITS better. I like them both really.

  • i love every song in wicked and i know them all by heart, and the dance moves but gee wizz this is good. no not good great!

  • I know, isn't it? i like it a lot, wizard and i is a bit better in my opinion but this one's pretty cool 2=)

  • really????do u know what name it will be? i want it!!!!lol reply if u can

  • i luv this song!!!i still like the wizard and i better but this is good 2=) if i got an ipod wich is never gonna happen(because i already have a laptop and a portie dvd player) first things i would put on it would be the wicked songs and this=)

  • Idina has some crazy vibrato in the workshops

  • cool, but i'm still glad they used the wizard and i=) but it's a pretty cool song.

  • ok this was awesome idinda voice was so good but i don't thinks it fits in wicked but i still love it!:D

  • omg, where did you find this? do you think you could send me just the audio of making good? also, do you have the original no good deed, the one with the deleted verse? i find these things fasinating! thnx lots!

  • I believe she's saying "contemplate". Hope that helps!

    Aloha!

  • thank you. I'm glad someone sees my point.

  • I think the reason they didnt use it was because it was writen for stephanie j block and doesnt fit idina that well. Thats why idina best song is wizard and I. it was the only one really written for her voice. I would like to hear stephanie sing this song.

  • ^^ no not because of that it's because they needed a song that explains why elphaba wanted to be with the wizard.. it has nothing to do with sjb!!!

  • think whatever you want. I disagree. she says enough in the show how much she wanted to see the wizard. she doesnt need to do a whole song. you think just because she didnt do a whole song about making good means the audience is gonna get confused if shes good of bad. NO!sorry to burst your bubble.

  • ok you did not need to get rude i was not trying to be rude.. but it's not because the song did not fit idina.. it has nothing to do with it .. it just seems silly to me and it seems like you need to do more research... SJB was not elphaba because she did not have a big enough name it was in the grimerie..(idk it i spelt that right)i was not trying to to be rude... both sjb and idina are amazing actresses and they both can sing these songs.. i bet Stephan decided to go with a more upbeat song..

  • you need to do a little research. sjb was the original elphaba so they wrote all the songs to fit her voice. you are right though sjb didnt have a big enough name, but that was after they wrote the songs. I'm sorry if i seem rude but I'm not trying to be.

  • ^^ no that's what i know it says it all in the grimerie......

  • me 2, i want to hear SJB sing this song sooo bad=)

  • DITTO!

  • They are both great songs, The Wizard and I and this one. However, they both have a decent amount of irony. More obvious ones: "When people see me they will scream." "I'll stand there with the Wizard feeling things I've never felt." "I'd be so happy I could melt." "I'll want nothing else 'til I die."

Either of the songs add a good amount of irony to the play, and to No Good Deed.

  • this is very poppy

  • It's all meant to be poppy

  • i know that this is a really good song

but if the wizard and i had been the original song, and this was the one in the show now, and u heard wizard and i in a workshop version, ud prolly like it better.

  • Agreed. =]

  • what's interesting is that stephanie j. block is working with stephen shwartz on this song. so perhaps in the future you'll here a more refined version of this song sung by a fellow/original elphaba. (my source?...a interview by broadway dot com)
