@oddisch6 after you fail at getting the ring and you cant find him click start and look at your quests. If you see taking care of business than do that one and youll find him and be able to join the guild.

Even if you fail on getting the ring. Go and speak to Brynjolf again and the quest will still progress.

But if you are a perfectionist. Just load it up. :D

Im having trouble joining the Thieves Guild on my second character. I joined easily on my first character without a problem. Now as I enter Riften I went to the center of town where you talk to Brynjolf (or something). I talk to him, start the quest and as i start it an imperial courier comes running through Riften prompting everybody to attack him. Now the distraction that Brynjolf is causing wont stop he keeps telling people to look at this potion and i cant meet him in The Ragged Flagon, help
