  • so true and so usefull i like rrealy totelly like this video tanks for this video

  • You'll never know how much I feel grateful by this post of yours.

  • They can make a person disappear from history throught it. Isso é muito grave! This is the elephant in the room. Hope Obama can work it out...

  • how can i get rid of visual copyright? plzzzz someone answer

  • @Msdeadskinmask you jump off a cliff, no really you use something called google.

  • @madmax2069 wow what an advice. dont understand shit from it. i asked for someone who is willing to help me.

  • @Msdeadskinmask ok i will make this easy, go to google and type in what you want to know. the info is readily available, why wait for someone to reply when you can go to the horses mouth.

  • @madmax2069 ty for the advice but i already know it won't help. they will probably say thesame as: ask permission from the owner blablabla. than im still not rid of it. nvm i already deleted the vid

  • @Msdeadskinmask it depends on what its intended use was.

was you even having issues with people reporting it ?

  • @madmax2069 idk just the standard copyright youtube immediatly gives when their in a bad mood. sony and other stuff or something not people reported i think

  • 7/31/2010 I thought that I had seen most of your videos by now, Mr. Mozart. After having discovered this gem, I must now recalibrate the nearly obsolete AWESOME detector I've been using. Good work Mike !

  • i worked really hard on this AMV and it got removed with in the 5 min I put it! makes me sooo mad. i wish some one would make a better youtube. i would join there instead of here

  • i tried to upload a small 3 minute clip of Braveheart and i found out if i wanted to upload this video without getting rejected i would have to ask mel gibdson himself for the copyright in the video that he probably doesnt know has been happening on my channel then i realized why paramount pictures is owned by viacom , yes the satanic copyright infringement demon. living in a suburb being the age i am it would seem to be impossible to get anyones agreement about "their" video damn u viacom!

  • Copyright sucks it's impossible to do anything now because of copyright and being able to copyright history is just stupid. No one should be able to do that! They should start reversing these laws

  • this is a disgrace do any of you have any idea how much control the record companies have they have sued 7 year olds before not only that but they pretty much control what the artist dose its retarded i agree with JamspongeVideo whats the point of you tube if everything is copyrighted

  • And some people's lives depend on drug companies products. Plavix, if someone on plavix can't afford their medication, they can die in a month. The company that makes plavix raises their prices, whoops, that person can't afford their plavix, and insurance will only cover so much. With no generics, that person could be dead and 6 feet under ground in one month. Now Mickey Mouse is famous for cartoons, if someone takes Mickey and puts him in an ad for Miller beer, I can understand that. My 2 cents

  • Well said. I mean, I joined youtube to make AMV's and well copy rights kick in and look at that; pffft 2 are gone because of copy rights. I got those clips OFF of youtube. I said I didn't own any of the clips nor the audio, but hey; they don't care. THANKS A LOT, I really like this video haha. Dude, you are so Flippin' right. I tried uploading the same video 3 times and it was always rejected. I put mad long hours into it and I did for a non-profit reason, and I'm still copyrighted...

  • @KrnMusicLover23 How did you obtain them from YouTube?

  • holy cow.. so history can be owned.. i never knew..

  • well said

  • This is also happening to A.A.Milne's family about the copyright dispute over the Winnie The Pooh franchise from Disney.

  • The problem is twofold.

One is what was addressed in the clip; "History", copyrighted.

However, we also have the problem of the idea that a person owns what they create. If you work real hard for an education and become a doctor, we won't take that from you. It's similar to the people who don't want to pay any taxes because you should own what you make or earn.

There's a problem between the two. Doesn't Disney have the right to make money off of what they have created? Who are we to say no?

  • agreed mike..history should not be in this rule...wasnt there only one video taken of kennedys death ? what about the hindburg...more recent what about the 9/11 film....can you imagine what destruction to histoy if it had all been considered copy right infringment to use?

  • mike im gonna keep an eye on this channel...you are giving out alot of good info here....thanks : )

  • Those big companies don't lobby these things because they have "a lot to lose", it's because they "don't want to earn a little less". Big difference.

  • Our current copyright system doesn't work. I've seen it since I found out what a copyright was. How come the government can't see it?

  • The government's wheels are greased by big business.

  • I think you should include a clickable link to the video you're responding to. I did a copy and paste and I have at least two to choose from. Hope I get the right one.

  • ............assault riffles? thats y u guys complainin 0_0

  • tnx mike very helpfull

  • I agree but what about the ak-47. This assault rifle was originally made by russia and now arab countries third world nations are making these types of assault rifles. Why isnt russia taking these people to court. Just a question for you

  • @lilpeaceacrap I don't think firearms apply, because they aren't a commercial product. Assualt rifles atleast

  • that was a reply to xm377's comment he/she said that firearms were being patented

  • The inventor was a Russian who was asked to design a gun. The gov. didn't give him anything for it (being a communist state) , so the patent isn't really owned by anyone.

Its a gray sort of area

  • Sounds like 1984...

  • Wow...we're governed by idiots who turn into bigger idiots. I can understand 5 years to renew...but 75?! GODDAMN! It feels like money controls the world now as well. This video was very educational and interesting.

  • Well I don't think they really thought about this really clearly b4 making the laws so not all of them are idiots

  • Disney ruins everything!

  • @2010mustang1 what about viacom? They're a bunch of pervert bastards compared to Disney these days.

  • this is an important issue..weird how these sort of things aren't discussed more often

  • the government already holds some

    information from the public.

  • Great video! The idea that the catholic church could have stopped protestantism right in it's tracks had modern copyright laws been in effect. That's a pretty mind boggling scenario.

  • REALLY SERIOUS 0_O

  • I hope Area 51 goes into public domain.

  • Wow, that sucks. Sounds like big companies are just too lazy to come up with new ideas. They're holding back the creativity of the whole world

  • We could loose chunks of HISTORY because of this!

  • On the other hand, the proliferation of media-recording devices in the hands of the public, and easy methods of publishing media through the net makes the idea of "history through one set of eyes" seem implausible from here on.

As for the events of the past, I'll leave it all to my time-traveling, camcorder-carrying youtuber, future-self.

"Stick it to the Man!" - that's what he'll say.

  • this is why the history channel is so successful with their documentaries on stuff they try to keep a secret but i bet their are alot more to come too.

  • Woah, this is really serious!

  • That is down right scary I have no doubt that our jacked up copywrite laws are slowly killing the public domain. Good vid 5 stars!

  • thanks for the info.

  • What do you mean? Mike Mozart is immortal.

  • Mike... it sounds like you're about to cry in this vid...

  • I think it's stupid that Youtube made a website that allows blatant copies of other films, but when ONE SINGLE person uses ONE SINGLE song, they go all insane and delete it and remove the author and *ban his IP* etc...

OK, so they don't ban the IP, but the point is that Youtube made a video sharing website, so I doubt they were only expecting real-life college independent stuff. I think they should only really delete videos if they blatantly break copyright. Thank you.

  • @JamspongeVideo I know right! I had a couple of songs remove b/c the artist started bitching about copyright issues. Yet there are ppl here that upload movies. old TV shows, disturbing videos and those rarely get taken down. ASSHOLES!

  • In the end and the best way to sum it down; We're all fucked, our grandchildren are fucked, and their grandchildren are fucked.

  • I hear you dude.

  • Great video. Copyright laws are idiotic. Have you read Kembrew McLeod's book on the subject?

  • So these guys are like The Patriots from metal gear

  • thanks for bringing up this serious issue, i think its sad because disney originally ripped of the germans, with no regard to copyright., since there was none, nor the need for it.

100 years is an absurd amount of time to hold the right to something.

  • Obvious you miss the point.

Their control of copyright LAWS, the manipulation/lobbying, the control - or attempt therefore - to control the use of the original public domain works their works are based off - that's where - for most of us anyways - the beef is, not the desire to control their own works, but HOW.

  • Interesting you say the Bible...in the UK, the King James Version is not public domain, the Church of England own its.

  • Well this is a double edge sword, i want to make a big media company but i try to use history. Neverthelest i'm glade i heared this now before things got turning.

  • woo mike

  • i like how you always smile :)

  • how I hate Copyright, the whole thing about the History is horrible...

  • didnt disney have a fit over steamboat willie becoming public domain so they fought like that?

  • Thank you very, very much for posting this video. I had no idea that copyright issues were such a big problem. I'll definitely keep my eyes out on this issue in case it comes up among my local politicians.

  • what if the louve museum owned the Mona Lisa

  • I think what you're doing Mike is fantastic thing. The average Joe does not know small details about copyrighting laws and how they've changed. If you keep this up, I think more people will begin to think a little bit more about how the media screws with our basic laws and rights.

  • Thank you for telling me this. I always thought fair use should be protected, but i had... no idea that copyrights could be extended for THAT long. It's just... wrong.

  • wow I never thoughts about this before but your right Mike. Its amazing with all the causes people are passionate about that stuff like this slips through the cracks because of politics and a complicated system of law.

  • i like this channel, very informative, yet easy to understand

  • 'buy law'?

  • Awesome!

  • wow you are alot smarter than i thought and i just thought you were pretty smart at first

  • Wow that's aweful!

  • This is the best video I've seen you do,thanks.

  • Copyright is FASCISM:

Totalitarian Social Control and private corporate ownership of all thoughts and ideas.

  • that is bull im son is going to hit the kids so

  • There is currently legislation trying to be passed to expand that time to 125 years after death of the writter or photographer.

  • I was going to share your video. But now I am not due to the copyright.

The Bible publishers do claim copyright and re the bible, I ignore that. ☺

  • wait....even if the person dies from old age that had something historic...it obviously goes under the protection of a living heir...so if your the author of a textbook being commissioned by a school...you have every right to contact that living heir, and get written consent to use the product

  • wow. cool.

  • awesome video man!

  • yea copyright sucks i cant upload my greatest videos

  • i think that you raise an interesting point... seriously i tkink that you should send this video to whoever is in charge of this sort of thing. this is really important stuff. also i agree with betterwhenrandom

  • Thank you so much for putting these videos up, I believe we need to know about these things. In short, the power that huge corporations have is somewhat terrifying, and I strongly believe that we all need to know about these quiet little laws that really...aren't all that little or benign.

    Thank you so much.

  • Who, Mike? Why? o.o

    He's just stating important facts.

  • Great Vid,

Its simple down to earth and straight to the point.

Five Stars an Two thumbs up, keep 'em coming.

  • Comment removed

  • wow very interesting, never knew anything about copyrights other than if you used it it was illegal,

    nice vid

  • How much is it to copyright your own music?

  • nice wow u are a great speaker i love the fact that u took your time out to do this :D u make me so proud i never knew this u are better then school o.o

  • Thanks so much! I never really cared, but once I started listening it got me interested. I never really thought about it. Thanks for making me understand something I never even thought of before.

love your reviews, I would love to see more videos like this, it actually kept me interested for the full 8 1/2 minutes.

    - Nova

  • amazing tnx

  • In England, the works of Shakespeare actually were copyrighted for *hundreds* of years by a single publisher. Eventually law changes caused them to fall out of copyright (in the late 1800s, I believe).

  • I hear you Mike.

  • I think 50 year copyrights are extreme, though 28 sounds good to me.

This is an important issue, but another important issue is how rampant copyright infridgement is today, especially online. All the time people take art from sites like deviantart and make a slideshow together with a pirated song. As an artist who has had my art stolen before, I can say how frustrating it is- especially when its so hard to get anything done about it. Artists rights are getting smaller & smaller & are ignored.

  • I feel that 25 might be a good round number actually.

And I feel that the rules on parody and fair use should be extended. Remixes such as YouTube Poops should be considered parody and different from the source material and therefore protected.

  • Things like art and writings should be made public domain after the original creator dies.

Not to be withheld to big corporations and copyright agencies.

  • I know it's just crazy

  • Very great info! Thanks for your time.. 5 stars from me

  • This is very informative. However, isn't using a disclaimer, or like for writing papers, using a work sited page, or a bibliogrophy sufficient? I'm just wondering because I thought so, but I'd never profess to be an expert or anything even close.

  • What's wrong with 28 years? If our Fore-Fathers thought it was a good idea it must of. Nobody should be able to change things that have been set in stone like that.

  • Wow. Very interesting points you make. I've always been pretty supportive of the concept of copyrights. Sure, some people who own them get TOO protective and end up using them to bully the fans of their work but in the long run, it's very important. Disney for example NEEDS to keep their rights to Mickey Mouse.

  • Did you see the children shows they made in the middle east involving a guy in a Mickey Mouse costume telling pretty much telling children to hate anyone who doesn't follow their religion? (It's on youtube. Take a look) Without proper copyrights, anyone could do that. Also, without copyrights we'd be like Hungry or India. Being able to making movies where Spider-Man kidnaps Lois Lane and threatens to rape her on the Death Star (I'm not kidding, this is a real Hungarian movie)

  • Finally though, you make a good point about history. History and religion should not be copyrighted. I don't the Jesus would care about the idea of only certain people being able to spread his message. Doing so would also temporize the

  • Shit, I totally screwed this up. let's try again

Finally though, you make a good point about history. History and religion should not be copyrighted. I don't the Jesus would care about the idea of only certain people being able to spread his message. Doing so would also jeopardize the accuracy. Like say if Christian words were copyrighted, it would give the owners the ability to say "Oh no, you can't publish any of this unless you agree to say Gays and Pagans are evil."

  • 100 comments :) great to see your new acc.! well this vid was pretty down must suck. :(

  • It's nice to see you in a bit more serious mood, and it's very informative for me. Thank you, Mike. By the way, isn't your last name copyrighted? xD

  • cool im the 100 comment awesome ps you rock!

  • you make the mythbusters look like a pair of twigs on the floor

    THANKS for the great info.

  • you are extremely interesting person!!! xxx

  • you are sooo much calmer on this channel. lol.

  • you don't patent URLs.

Same goes for DNA sequences, or life forms. These shouldn't be patentable.

  • I agree, it's stupid to allow people to copyright history. Like people patenting ancient Chinese medicine or patenting the url. But I just got a copyright infringement complaint from Rumblefish for using Mozart's 25 symphony. How can they dispute public domain works?

  • BTW, next you should talk about the prezident's money law where if you have a certain income and you have to be taxed and that money is given to those who don't work, making them become dependant of this tax. a relitive is working a little less just so he doen't get taxed as much. Why is everything like this happening...first chaning the DTV date, now this new tax, bad copyright infrigment, heck they make fake stickers and DVDs! What's next PG-rated movie have PG-13 content since it's "mild"????

  • Well, this sucks :p

  • Like the alians and like big foot and other thing

  • *cough* VIACOM

  • Copyrighting of history could only happen if like you said only one person witnessed the event right? Could you elaborate on this and give examples of history that is copyrighted?

  • I know that! But who forced them?

  • Your understanding of understanding of those laws are evidently a bit flawed. You cannot claim that work as your own but you can most definitely quote or refer to that information if you give the owner credit. Additionally, One cannot apply said laws to actual people. the people aren't covered only concepts presented are.

  • i have to delete like 4 of my videos or they will delete my account... im serious they sent me a message. its so fucking stupid!

  • Comment removed

  • Thanks Mike!! Your information is very useful for my company!!

    Rich

  • Well, copyright laws have showed their signs of aging in digital age. Since now it's too easy to break copyright law, it is a breeding ground to copyright bullies (mainly larger companies) and copyright trolls (those who use laws to cause havoc to those who they don't like). Something must be changed soon.

  • ok what would it be if sum1 made a vid about a man 20 years after death they would go to jail this is ur only vid i am completeley serieous goverment is going down hill and is still getting steeper and its sickining

  • what would happen if we watched jfk get shot in the neck, and then in the face and all over for that matter and they said it was a 22 rifle? And then they immediatly execute the gunmen?

What would happen if we all watched a single shot of plane over and over fly into a building, but it looked strange, as did the sound and background?Did lincoln fight for slave freedom or government control?

Wether past or present,we will be told what is true,in a competitive system.

  • This is really interesting. I had no idea. Thanks!

  • Yup, the future is going to be scary.

  • ugh, i hate viacom but i love invader zim XD copyright is important, but weird. O.o

  • Agh, me too. :\

  • Mike: To clarify your hypothetical at 4:21, a report of the Hindenburg burning would *NOT* be copyrightable. As the Supreme Court ruled in _Feist Publications, Inc. v. Rural Telephone Service Company, Inc._, 499 U.S. 340 (1991), facts cannot be copyrighted. The presentation of those particular facts can be, but not the facts themselves.

I just thought I would mention that as a second-year law student.

  • Hey, i posted a video comment on here.. could you help me out and anwser my question .. pleeeease.

  • I don't think a private work should ever go into public domain unless it is voluntary. Once property, always property.

I think your arguments aren't sound. If there is only one claimed witness to history, why should he be trusted anyway?

  • Okay, the eternalization of property is just ridiculous. Your argument is useless because it goes to the opposite EXTREME. The bottom line: copyright TODAY is NOT about being fair or encouraging useful work. It is about large companies making the most money possible. It abuses very abstract ethical objectivist arguments to do so. And I don't give a shit about protecting the greed of another.

  • We have eternal property in everything else. I don't see any good reason to make an exception for intellectual property. I think it's a matter of basic respect to let someone own what he labored to create, until he voluntarily relenquishes control. And yes to allow him to make as much money as possible on it. Who is really greedy? I can say that you're greedy for wanting to have free use of what someone else created.

  • what you people don't seem to get is that "anti-copyright" isn't just about getting free shit. this worldwide movement is not just millions of freeloaders acting together. that kind of underestimation of our cause is exactly why huge organizations the MPAA and RIAA have failed to stop file-sharing. I suggest you examine the legal, cultural and philosophical arguments more thoroughly. basically, the laws governing private property are INADEQUATE and ABSURD when applied to intellectual property.

  • "Getting free shit" is exactly what anti-copyright is about. It's about people getting upset that they can't get free access to the produce of someone else's labor.

  • Again, the thing that is in question whether laws that govern private property are adequate when applied to intellectual property. perhaps you don't understand that the main focus of the debate is not what your friends at school say, but that THERE ARE OTHER VERY IMPORTANT IMPLICATIONS for society at stake. I suggest you examine these.

  • I have examined these. That's how I've come to this conclusion. A civil, orderly, and productive society is one where individuals are allowed to control the produce of their labor - where others are prohibited from taking what others produce without their consent. I don't think allowing theft has good implications for society.

  • Except this isn't about or relevant to theft, and copyright and data by nature can't be restricted by the same ideas and conceptual restrictions as physical property due to the digital/non-physical nature.

Don't forget, copyright was not meant to be forever, it was always meant to be for a limited time.

  • I teach an intro to computer class at a local university. One of our subject areas we cover is 'What can I cut and paste?" You do such a great job..consider a video on that!

  • Also, I love Wikipedia. ROFL. But seriously, He's right, look at my other post.

  • AWESOME info. That's what Scary Movie does, and Date Movie, and Meet the Spartens. And Disaster Movie, may I go on?

  • no,scary movie and them use it for satirical purposes, which means you cant sue them for that, its a law

  • you parodic

  • wow.

    great info.

it's a shame what's happening to this country regarding copyright laws in general.

youtube is a good example to start with.

  • That's bullsh!t..

It's hard to believe how the laws and lobbyists try to work to stress out the dollars and the control of Media..

  • The catholic churches didn't WANT the bible translated, it allowed them to have a monopoly on the words of god (in medieval ages)

Good movie, but my only critique: I personally would prefer less preach and more teach. Love your work overall though.

  • Excellent points made. You're absolutely right. Greed is destroying this country. Lobbyists have no place in government. Elected officials should be prohibited from accepting money from special interests. We're celebrating 4th of July today...how ironic....we're no longer free. We will one day have no middle class, just the rich and the poor. The corporations have all the money and control. Sad.

  • What the retarded idiots at the RIAA, MPAA, etc., do NOT understand is that every year there are more songs, movies, etc., being created. A human being can only enjoy so much in a day, a week, a year, a lifetime. So, more and more older material will in fact be money LOSERS for these copyright holders, since NO ONE will care for older stuff. Get it?

  • Thanks for the video man!

The Best copyright tutorial video ever!!!

    thanks!

  • cont. and therfore, from all the money not only from their movies, but their shows, their network, and maybe their theme park, I'm pretty sure, maybe they are just at their time to passing on their assets (big list apperently) to a new list of next gen of creators and potential copy right owners to distribute such to the public domain with the same material, but in somewhat, different format,

  • 1:57 Doesn't that mean that your material is pretty much absorbing all the attention and spotlight from other people trying to get their material out to the public domain? & as for disney, It's no longer about the money, I think it's rather they think they have created a legacy of their archived films,

  • They have created a legacy, what company is one of the first things you think of when you think about animated movie? Disney.

  • Has Mike Mozart ever reply to anyone`s comments? Just wondering.

  • damn, why the us of a cant have people like him as the president ? why always these dumb and rich idiots ?

    do something america !

  • which childerns books?

  • you make a damn good point

  • One irony is that Disney's properties are based mostly on old stories, myths and fairy tales. Without the public domain on those stories, they would not have the company they have today. Disney's just greedy because they know they've run out of creative juice.
