It's great sci-fi, because it borrows so heavily on reality. The backdrop really is nothing but the horrors of apartheid, except black and white now brotherly gang up on insectoid. Sure, it provides mindless action, but the message is deep and profound and this movie will also satisfy people looking for more than just a good flick.

Why did they make the first half of the film so deliberately ridiculous and stupid, people in the cinema were laughing at how bad it was. it was so bad to begin with it must have been deliberate, why? It just meant the film had a huge mountain to climb in order to get back credibility with the audience. It was the strangest film I have seen for a long time, too many unanswered questions in the plot for me, bizaar.

I saw the censored version in the cinema previews and i thought it made the film more mysterious. The blurred aliens face during the interview really added to the documentary feel. Then i thought the uncensored version ruined the mystery
loved this film, a good breath of fresh air into the sci-fi genre. People keep saying the first 20 mins was boring, but I loved getting scraps of information and trying to piece them together. Ah well.
This movie is the best I've seen in my life. It completely overshadows any other, even a few classics. A must see and a must buy for anyone with a taste for a blend of realism and sci-fi. 10/10
if this was set in New York, Washington or any other US city, with some famous Hollywood celebrities like Tom Cruise or Matt Damon or John Travolta, the film would suck! Being set in Johanesburg in virtually unknown actors gives it authenticity and makes it great!

I think there will be a chance for diplomacy because of Wikus. Christopher will remember that there are some decent humans, but I think they will be soldiers with Christopher. You saw how fast he made a bomb to escape? These beings are war like...I'm looking forward to District 10

Over time it should be relatively easy to work out basic words on context alone, and the language could be worked out from there. And the aliens have been on earth for 27 years so it's not as if they just turned up and were able to have conversations. You're just nitpicking.

The perfect sequel would start with documentary style interviews om a human refugee camp after a devasting war with the aliens.

I understand and recognize that they illuminated racism, that can't be overlooked. But you can't tell me you have ever seen any one else make a similar movie. That is the definition of original.

I'm shocked when I see some peeps saying they hated this or thought it was boring. I thought it was amazing, touching, brilliant, and completely original. I respect other peeps opinions, but jeez, compared to any other sci fi movie since like Aliens.. this is amazing stuff. Good work.

I don't see anything different in this trailer from the others. Plus, I seen District 9, it's one of the best new creative science fiction movies in decades. I strongly suggest you see it, but not with your kids!

i have to say that the first 2 hours were really boring, it was more or less a documentary through the two hours, and then the third hour happened, action picked up and a great ending.
but it would probably happen in america, if aliens descended to earth, the americans are so cold hearted that they would keep them as prisoners.
i thought it was okay, but the cinema seats are like rocks, i went into another screen and watched final destination.
but watched the last hour of distrcit 9 online.

Who here thinks Wikus will decide to not turn human? His reputation around the world has been tainted, he couldn't go back to a normal life. Perhaps his Wife will either die or also go threw the transformation, and they will start a new life on the alien planet.

I think there will be a chance for diplomacy because of Wikus. Christopher will remember that there are some decent humans, but I think they will be soldiers with Christopher. You saw how fast he made a bomb to escape? These beings are war like...I'm looking forward to District 10

i think he is smarter than that, i think he would suggest an agressive rescue mission. if they do make it war, i think the movie will go down hill with pure mindless action like TF and no storytelling like District 9.

Over time it should be relatively easy to work out basic words on context alone, and the language could be worked out from there. And the aliens have been on earth for 27 years so it's not as if they just turned up and were able to have conversations. You're just nitpicking.
