@BusterBeetleX The explosives were designed to destroy the entire station in the event of chatistrophic failure. The boiler didn't need to be next to them to trigger them.
@BusterBeetleX Likely. As seen in the end of the game, the station can be used as a weapon to destroy planets. They need a plan B should something highjack it, such as the X.
