96 people HAVE incredible taste ! 2 people are missing the color " BLUE " from their color spectrum and the word " SPECTRES " from their vocabulary !!
I love this song and this BAND, for decades... I didn't know there was a long version (duh). Where are the lyrics? BOC lyrics, Buck's guitar, their harmonies, mood, meaning = indescribable beauty.
I love this song, and to me, Buck will always be one of the best guitarists in the world, and Eric is so amazing at his age he looks even younger every year and with such energy, long live BOC ! This was a great tour with Allen, Bobby and Danny ...
@Gasass1962 Because they are so GOOD, that many can understand it. The critics and suit people won't get it. But we do. That's the best in our favour, doesn't?
sweet. buck still rocks like no other. but why does EVERY drummer these days have that ridiculously low-tuned kick drum? inappropriate fur boc's sound.
'Harvest Moon' and 'Here Comes That Feeling' are some of other songs from Buck of recent times that is just as good or better than classic stuff. Hypnotic beautifully morbid tunes they are too.
Thanks for this clip. Blue Oyster Cult are an American Treasure. Totally original and groundbreaking in every aspect of their music. Way ahead of the pack. Buck is simply the Greatest. NOBODY comes close to his virtuosity and melodic playing.
@pigletized and @ stevediorio. Of course it gives you chills. Me too. It was meant to. And this version is real tasty. Like it a lot. Yeah, this IS one the most interesting bands. Musically. Lyrically. Even the name of the group.
@pigletized I strongly disagree, Blue Oyster Cult was insanely influential to the development of Rock music in the 70s. They used to be one of the biggest bands in the world, right up there with Led Zeppelin.
Agreed! Buck is excellent on this version. Definitely one of the most beautiful songs to come out of BOC. The only thing missing here is the incredible harmonies on "I Love the Night" that really put the emotional bite in this all to underrated gem.
Is that Rondinelli on drums? Man I wish Albert Bouchard was back. Bobby doesn't do any fills at all. He's so monotone. Anyway, great job on Buck's part; I just wish the drumming had some more life.
Those new members need to learn how to sing back up if they ever want to be real members of the cult. I really miss Joe and Albert Bouchard. But since they've gone on to do other things...well, not much the rest can do but get replacements and go on. I love these guys. Thanks for posting, this is one of my favs!
bongobin, I agree but Albert basicaly had it coming whne he was kicked out way back in 1981. I met his brother Joe about 10 years ago here in NJ and spoke a bit about that. I miss Albert as he was a MAJOR contributor to the band; and one of the best co-writers in the band.
No. But the demo version that Buck recorded can be heard on vol. 2 of his home recording compilations which I believe may be for sale through his website.

Six shows live in two states for me and I've never seen this song played. What kills me is I missed this show and 4th and B is in my freaking home town.
A friend who goes to a lot of BOC shows with me complains we can never hear many of their songs live because they are addicted to turning EVERY song performed live into a ten to twenty minute "jam" so at the end of the show you've only heard ten songs or less. Kinda true.
Anyway, great song and my wife's favourite BOC tune.
@HarlJHogg That is funnier than shit! I have seen this band five times. Got to meet them about 3 yrs ago at the local casino for a backstage meet and great. Foghat also was there. Those guys were real cool. These guys were distant and just up and left right after we shook their hands and got autographs. Foghat dudes just sat and BS us.
The "b" sides rule live anybody got " The Vigil" Seen 'em 16 times. Seen "Nosferatu" live, "Divine Wind", "Vengeance (The Pact)" live. But never this.
Awesome Tune!! Reminds when I used to go 4 wheeling in my truck with all my buds out in the gravel pits. Stop the truck at dusk, start a small camp fire, play some B.O.C., while drinkin beers and watching the sun set over the Horizon.
Get a nice cool buzz while the wind runs through your hair. Man what great times those were.
In the last few years..they have played it more and more..twice in San Francisco at Slims night club...how did radio ignore this song? It is pure musical magic. I was hoping the newly released Spetres would have the extended version....
Saw this song played live in '06, probably the high point of the show for me seeing as I had never heard the entire song before it was very memorable and is a comforting song. I think it may be Buck Dharma at his best.
This song and Harvest Moon are great examples of how much of a musical/lyrical genius Donald "Buck Dharma" Roeser really is. His contributions to Blue Oyster Cult are amazing but his contributions to rock music in general are even more amazing and it's too bad he isn't as widely recognized as other rock musicians. In my mind he was the one behind most of B.O.C.'s masterpieces. He is such an expressive and impressive guitarist and vocalist.
you're lucky. this song is one of the "unsung" BOC classics.
this live version is nice, although i prefer the studio version which in my mind is a 80's masterpiece. as good as any rock ballad ever. would love to find a studio extended version!
Buck's home demo is close to studio quality on the remastered collection album and there are minor differences in the style of the playing and drumming of the version that was on Spectres.

Can someone write me the lyrics from 3:36-3:44?
styxn8 5 months ago
@styxn8
All of the lyrics trimmed (for time) from the studio version:
Out in the air, cool and clear it's free/it's the only way to be
Once hidden wonders now were there to see/they were pointed out to me
Now I never rise until the sun falls And my vision knows no walls
And I'm looking for ladies walking alone
They regret the day when they hear me say
(per Albert Bouchard)

I have always thought Eric Bloom an underrated vocalist. I like the way he adds a short vibrato to the ends of phrases - very stylish.
