  • i don't think cern is safe and plus i don't wana die just yet o-o whos with me

  • The video is about safety @CERN the explanation kills the 'the collisions could create a black hole.' myth...They happen in nature so they don't lead to earth destroying black holes...it's simple CERN is safe..

  • I don't know maybe it is just me, but it seem like this man is talking about the same thing over and over and he is just saying it in different ways. He might be a physicist, but I think he needs a little lesson in speech, maybe plan the speech before doing it or something.

  • 1)HELLO OBVIOUS DR MAGNUSSON!or maybe Ely Vance...

    2)CERN....Black Mesa or Aperture Science?

    3) THERE WAS A PHOTO OF GORDON AND GMAN NEAR THE LHC!!!!!

  • Your Mama said I am a genius with her clit!

  • who fuckin cares ..this guy looks lik the devil when the blackhole appears he can look at it face to face an say " you dont exist" an the black hole is gonna swallow his bitch ass

  • The Large Hadron Collider will create quark gluon plasma at temperatures and pressures higher than which exist in the core of supernova. Nobody really knows anything about this stuff, but not being subject to forces it could well end up on Mr Ellis' face.

  • @palehorn You're a moron. We know very well what will happen, because we have mathematical models.

  • @zantrua u call everyone moron.. to me u look like a moron when u say: we know, we made, we..we..we... u done nothing on or with cern and u only cry out what the "experts" told u so just stfu.. u are 1 of those retards that swallow everything without questions..

  • First, the word "you" only has three letters, it's not that difficult to type; that aside, I am a scientist, I am part of the group that makes your life better; you're welcome. Also, the experts you speak so condescendingly of are really experts, they(unlike you) have taken courses and have degrees in the area of particle physics. It seems to me that you are just swallowing the anti-LHC rhetoric, you should really think for yourself. I call people who hate science morons because they are.

  • @zantrua you instead of u? didnt you understand u?saved me time.. ok courses u say? from where did they get the info, isnt that why cern exist? to learn.. no1 knows what can happen because no1 did it before.. how can u say that this is safe when u dont know.. just because u read a book?

  • @hhijtyn It's safe because it HAS been done before, that's what the video is about. Some cosmic rays have FAR more energy than the LHC will be capable of producing, so it's been proven safe by nature itself.

  • @zantrua u say u already know everything about it so what will "we" learn from cern that "we" dont know about already? if it have been done before then how did they do it without cern? isnt that why the machine been built at all, to learn about it because nothing else can do it..

  • @hhijtyn No, we don't know the way these particles interact with the resolution we would like, hence the LHC.Think of it as a big camera for looking at these collisions. If we could hoist the 12000000kg(for CMS at least) thing into the air and look at the cosmic ray collisions directly, we would; but we can't, so we build a 'cosmic ray generator' like device, and look at it on the ground, in more controlled conditions.

  • @zantrua so what u are saying is that we pay for a 6 billion camera just to se some paricles interact?

when the economic looks like shit in almost every country and money really needs to clean up our planet and to create food and clean water for us its ok to spend so much money on a camera just because the experts are curious?

  • @hhijtyn Yes, how do you think the economy is fixed? Jobs. This machine made many thousands of jobs(probably and lets us learn about the way everything works too, it's a win-win situation. Every invention in the world from the monorail to the nuclear reactor has its price, but the benefits are always amazing.

  • i think the only real danger is in knowledge learned from this. Perhaps to greater weapons. perhaps the world needs a stronger centralized government with cameras everywhere and microchips marking where people go

  • anyone who study origin of life is insane. thats all i can say hahahaha americans use to be most of them..

  • @Tubuletastic You're a moron; Please die.

  • Could someone please explain me that cosmic rays hitting the earth?

  • He looks like God...

  • WILL WORK(excuse me). Every idiot outthere thinks he's Einstein, and starts to write all kind of bullshit on the internet. Look here you retards, if a guy that is 1000000000000000 times smarter than you (like a scientist, or an engineer, or medic, etc.), says LHC IS SAFE, then he knows what he's talking about. So go and shove you're stupid ideeas where you came from. I know i'm being to brutal, but this assholes DESERVE IT. They are fucking drug addicts, and there brains don't function anymore!

  • In order to a create a black hole you will need at least the power output of a sun going supernova. Now as we can see it is impossible for us to do this as our planet does not output that much power. Thus the LHC is safe.

  • This isn't exactly true. The point is that it takes something that size to produce a black hole with nothing but natural processes via gravity. You can certainly in theory surpass the schwartzchild radius of an object with something much smaller provided enough energy, it just wouldn't be gravity alone causing it. Also, the black hole wouldn't be able to propagate since gravity on that scale is such a ridiculously weak force.

  • @hawkeyefile read da bible

  • The LHC WILL WARK, it will colide 2 beams of protons, nothing bad will happen (that's logical, but you have to have a brain for that... you fucking zombies). I can't wait for it to start and see how you guys will be looked at like a group of idiots, with absolutly no brain at all. Damn, how stupid can you get ?

  • Ok, so sonofthedestroyer and hhijtyn are FUCKIG RETARDS. I'm happy that the world doesn't give a FUCK WHAT YOU THINK, YOU GUYS DON'T MATER. SO SHUT THE FUCK UP, and go and do drugs or what ever you guys do in your fucking retarded lives.

  • "No match between comic rays and LHC!"

Do you even know what cosmic rays are?

Despite the name cosmic rays are single charged particles. The majority of them being protons, the same particle the LHC accelerates.

  • Hey can you explain to me about the cosmic rays please?

  • Cosmic rays are charged particles which are given out by supernova and similar events.

They can travel at just a tiny fraction under the speed of light and at very high energies.

The most powerful cosmic ray detected was at 300 million TeV compared to the 14 TeV the LHC will manage.

They produce new particles in exactly the same was as the LHC will.

There is nothing the LHC will ever produce that cosmic rays are not right this minute.

The aim of the LHC is to study these collisions in detil.

  • Thx :)

  • i tought the earth was protected by the atmosfeare against cosmic rays? what happends if you create cosmic rays on the ground????

  • "i tought the earth was protected by the atmosfeare against cosmic rays?"

The earths magnetic field can stop lower powered cosmic rays. (such as those from the Sun)

But the most powerful pass right through it without even being bent significantly.

"what happends if you create cosmic rays on the ground?"

Bit of static on the mobile phone maybe, might cause your computer to crash if it's poorly shielded.

They are so common that there is a good chance you have been hit by one while reading this

  • How about the discussion regarding LHC being able to create a black hole? How can this be proven to be safe?

  • The fact that we currently exist is evidence for the safety of the LHC.

The cosmic rays which continually hit us can have vastly more energy than the LHC will ever manage, there is nothing the LHC could produce that cosmic rays have not for billions of years.

As a note the most powerful cosmic ray ever detected was at 300 million TeV compared to 7 TeV which the LHC will manage.

  • @nordemoniac If the LHC could make black holes capable of swallowing matter, cosmic rays already would have.

  • You talk about single particle and single collision near speed of light. And what about LHC? Billion collisions on double speed of light in one point of space per second!!! Where did you see a coincidence?

  • @Vassitch Do you even read your comment before hitting post? You sound like a total moron. In the name of humanity, please never reproduce.

  • Ellis is a genius!

  • lol sheep.. yes i like the sound of that^^

  • there is absolutley no sitentific basis what so ever that this is safe.. its just hes private opinion and you buy it.. i really hate "ok if u say so" and "he is the expert so he knows" people who dont think for themself.. remember that he just speculates!

anyway.. 2012-12-21.. look for that date my friends! D-day is coming so get it on with this shit..

  • Did you even listen to what he said about cosmic rays? Basically what they are doing are recreating something that has happened and will happen millions of times a day naturally and its on a smaller scale to the cosmic rays that come from the sun on a daily basis! Go and search cosmic rays on wikipedia and look at the difference in the Electron Voltage srsly

  • wave little with the hands and say some good shit about this and u swallow all bullshit.. THEY ONLY SPECULATE! its not only about cosmic rays my friend.. if there is an implosion and it doesnt go well we could get fucked and no waving hands or good words from old "experts" can save us! why do this shitexperiment (that we dont need) if this always happen everywhere in much bigger scale? he only glorifyes hes work to get it legal when they try to play god!

  • Again this happens on a much smaller scale to that which happens everyday. what are you so afraid of? There are already loads of these about in the world and no one seems to give a shit about them. Srsly have you even read that wiki page? do you even kno what you are talking about? Do you even understand the mechanics of this machine? All im getting from you is a repeat of what youve said before this is just retarded, we are not gonna die

  • And the reason they want to recreate these collisions in a controlled environment is because they can better measure the results, did you never learn about 'fair experiments' in you GCSEs? Youre the sort of person who wants us stuck in the dark ages. If it wasnt for theoretical science theres alot of stuff you wouldnt have right now.

  • @hhijtyn We need to look at these collisions closer to provide additional evidence for various theories, such as the standard model and M theory(string theory)

  • we know how to do so lets do it! we calculate and guess that it will be totally safe (we have no clue) but we really want to do this so i wave my hands and tell u a story with some difficult words and calculations so u buy it.. retarded coment "this is totally safe" how can he say this? how can he say:it happens all the time around us.. if it happens all the time around us then why not just spec that?

REMEMBER THAT NO HUMANS KNOW WHAT CAN HAPPEN BECAUSE NOONE HAS EVER DONE THIS BEFORE..EVER!

  • "how can he say:it happens all the time around us.. if it happens all the time around us then why not just spec that?"

Scientists do research cosmic rays and many new discoveries have been made from the study of them.

    (Like anti-matter)

But they are difficult to examine in detail.

All the LHC will do is allow us to examine those kind of collisions in more detail in a controlled environment.

  • "but why?"

Why study the universe we are in? To find out about it of course.

That study has led to Computers, advanced medical scanners. It will lead to Fusion power. Which will benefit us greatly with our dwindling Oil and Coal reserves.

  • "Why study the universe we are in? To find out about it of course" why do we need to know? "That study has led to Computers" nah.. dont think so! "It will lead to Fusion power" speculations only! "Which will benefit us greatly" or kill us.. "dwindling Oil and Coal reserves" solarpower can do that to.. so why mr sheep, WHY? dont come up with more speculations.. try to think for uself! proof to me that u aint brainwashed..
  • "Computers" "nah.. dont think so!"

The discovery that electrons behaved both as 'particles' and 'waves' directly lead to the invention of the Transistor.

Which your computer has billions of.

    "Fusion"

CERN are one of the world leaders into Fusion research.

    "solarpower can do that to.."

Solar power can alleviate the problem. But at the moment cannot even begin to replace the power we currently use from Oil and Coal.

    "try to think for uself!"

    /Irony

  • solarpower my friend can do much more than u think.. im happy to not be brainwashed like u..

  • "solarpower my friend can do much more than u think."

Sure, I bet there are many technologies that can do more than anybody thinks.

Like the discovery that electrons were both waves and particles totally revolutionised the world.

"im happy to not be brainwashed"

    You keep saying that... why?

  • ytmoog, you're doing your thing, but can you stop quoting people. It's annoying. I do not mean to offend you whatsoever. I'm entitled to my own opion.

  • "but can you stop quoting people."

No, I find it helps keep track of what I am replying too, especially on videos with a lot of comments on.

You can have whatever opinion you like. That is no problem to me.

  • You're an idiot. Please shut the fuck up.

  • I dont trust a man that looks like santa clause very shifti

    lmao jk

  • Nice. But how will you create a gravitational in the atoms, how will you create a universe in the circle, is there any room for the collision of atoms, where those atoms go after the collision, are you sure that the collision is going to be the same as the universe big bang?

  • The LHC spins particles to 99.9% the speed of light. If we lived in a different universe (different laws), the LHC may have enough power to reach speeds over this limit. When matter is faced with an overabundant amount of energy and the approaching speed of light, its mass increases. The LCH accelerates these particles several times over their motionless mass. The energy in proportion to the amount of mass in the collision is a rough, though infinitely smaller, replica of the big bang.

  • Nice. But how will you create a gravitational in the atoms, how will you create a universe in the circle, is there any room for the collision of atoms, where those atoms go after the collision?

  • Proof please

  • oh no we are going to die xD

This is amazing what they are doing, and i very excited to see what they will find out!

  • John ellis is a well known physicist, hes not a fake. to be honest you need to go read about this stuff, its amazing what leaps in science these things can lead to. Ignorance breeds fear I cant believe people like you honestly think that these guys where given funding for somthing that can 'end the world' thats just not good business sense is it?!

  • It's like Santa says! Dump the beams, or your in for a surprise!

  • i like he´s t-shit :D

  • how many mosquitos in a horsepower?

  • "how many mosquitos in a horsepower?"

    About 330000000.

  • wrong

  • I LIKE HOW HE SAYS LABOORATORY

  • thats why he is a Theoretical physicist

  • "thats why he is a Theoretical physicist"

Aren't they all? Except for Oppenheimer.

  • if a train is travelling in one direction and it hits a mosquito travelling in the opposite direction at the point when the mosquito changes direction does the train stop?

  • do you belive in santa?

  • Well if you removed your head from your ass you'd see these 'experts' have worked and learned all their lives and know more about theoretical physics than you could ever hope to know. These tests could do so much for science and people like you are ignorant scare mongers. Go and read up about this stuff in a book somewhere so you understand what they hell you are talking about

  • OMG! how can they know what can happen? is it cus they are good in math or that they know how to send small shit in speed of light?

WHAT NO1 KNOW IS WHAT WILL HAPPEN WHEN THEY COLLIDE! if u are so stupid that u listen to granpa guessing what will happen (no1 knows what will happen) then i feel sorry for u brainwashed bastards.. if an expert comes to u and say: sun is green, then u should just say: aah.. thougt it was yellow but u are the expert.. think for uself people.. try atleast..

  • does this remind anyone of doc oc and spiderman 3?

  • yepp

  • "doesn't disappear" is relative

  • i Bet This dood Is Just a Hobo

  • lmfao a hobo!

  • hobo on a green screen :D

  • rachmaninov46, i agree with you LoL :))

  • so theyre colliding mosquitoes now?

  • I like this guy in specific. He isn't speaking with high science ways, he's speaking like a normal man so it's quite easy to understand... I also love his humor.

    "Colliding mosquitoes" xD

  • and i love his tshirt!!! :D

  • i don't see why everybody always likes to create drama... do you just need something to talk about? the LHC is a completely legitimate experiment. it doesn't even make sense to believe that the LHC would create a black hole or destroy the earth, get a grip and be a little more realistic.

  • its a bit diffrent from nuclear energy and if somthing happens u will be so sorry.. seek the answers is ok but play god is not, not for the cost of humanity.. if they should create a black hole and it didnt react as they think black hole do, then all this could cost the earth.. lets hope "some" guessed right this time.. for me,you and all humanity..

btw grown up kids(19-20).. i know this is exiting but think!

  • I predict a resonance cascade.

  • i really dont care if they spend 100.000.000.000£ on this shit.. i dont care if it took 1 million years to build.. i dont care if it is the most smart and most funnie people on the earth who built this shit.. i dont care "if and why" bigbang shit happend and how..i really dont!! thing is that they didnt ask people of this planet to run a totally new experiment that can cost humanity.. dont say it cant cus u dont know a shit about what can happen! no1 knows.. so what if? play little with it..

  • you can't stop human ambition to seek the answers of shit we don't know. There is your kind who says they don't care, and theres the majority who will continue doing crazy shit lol. Oh well, haha.

  • so, live experiments like the ones american government conducted in the fifties about nuclear energy, that cost and keep harvesting lives, don't bother you at all, huh?

and, by swearing, you certainly cannot make up for total ignorance!

    i feel sorry for you!

  • hhijtyn, your a kid? KID! they used 14 years on this. 4 years to make the LHC, and 10 years to check the safety. so stfu :)

  • what if? no1 knows.. they just speculate..

lets try? and if somthing happens like a black hole then u can blame this bum!

  • lol. We won't be here to blame him. It won't even matter at that point.

  • Haha, look at this dude. He looks like a bum off the street they brought inside and cleaned up...I respect this guy.

  • If they knew what was going to happen - they wouldn't need to run the tests. Chances are nothing will happen.. but remember the scientists "famous last words". Think about the doctor or scientist on the Simpsons.

  • I have a competent mind but even though all of my reason was telling me nothing would happen an that this was safe, the media did manage to freak me out a little, and for someone who is maybe a bit less rational than myself this could be deemed truly frightening, and in that sense it was incredibly irrisponsible and cold hearted to then go and profisise the end of the world, well done mate, whoever you are, what you said needed to be said, you have done the frightened and confused a service :)dw

  • Im living the life for sure, drinking beer and stuff now..

  • Who's eating popcorn right now?

btw, ty for the vid im not worried anymore.

  • ma daj

ja mislim da vi niste normalni stari moj. jebeš tebe

  • haha smiri se!!

  • theyve tested one beam, that was a sucesss!

  • 2 months! 2 months?!!! How long has this thing been planned? 15 years !

  • WOOOO I'M RELAXED NOW. friken awesome science!

  • This machine has runned few tests on 11 august 2008... Dont be afraid i think NONE would like to die and if it wasnt safe this wouldnt be Startet.

  • you guys should really calm down these scientist are a hell of alot smarter then you and I and I siruisly doubt that they would spend 20 years and billions of dollars on this and risk everyones lives if it even had a chance of being that dangerous and plus steven hawkings himself said that he would bet 100$ that nothin bad would happen.......Plus thier just little bity misquitos lol =]

  • I fuckign hate scientists they want to put EVERYONES life in danger just to do a damn experiment I DONT WANT TO DIE FOR SOME DAMN EXPERIMENT! =[

  • mate...if it really creates a black hole...LOl you wont know..

  • Looks abit like God don't he?

    - if a mosquito flies into the Earth what happens? If 2 mosquitoes travelling in opposite directions down a small tube at nearly the speed of light collide, what happens?

  • man, the guy says that a proton near the speed of light has the energy of a casually moving mosquito, not a relativistic mosquito! :p

  • a casually moving mosquito with the power of a train - no mosquito is ever casual.

  • ok mate, just ponder for a second that these guys (the thousants of paricipants) do not talk like he does now all day through!!! they use maths, very advanced maths and very adnvanced physics that most of us don't even imagine of conceiving!

be sure, they have it well better ratified the experiment than just mosquito or train collisions etc etc...

  • I am just trying to point out that the conditions in the tube are somewhat different to the conditions at the edge of the stratosphere - would you be down there when those mozzies hit?

  • no, and that's why no one will be!:P

  • Guys, just think about this, do you really think that the beams are going to hit and form a BLACK HOLE? FFS! That sounds like something out of a science fiction movie. Even if it does, it would be a lot more exciting than dying from AIDS, Cancer, war, Violence, or a mob hit lol. Peace be with you all =/.

  • what gives them the right to put our life at risk i wan to kill them damn scientists

  • >what gives them the right to put our life at risk i wan to kill them damn scientists

No one is putting your life at risk.

    Stop being a twat.

  • omg.. dont say that nothing can happen because u dont know..

  • "dont say that nothing can happen because u dont know.. "

There are ways of knowing things you know.

  • so please tell me those ways..

not anyone in this world know what will happen cus this is totally new to mancind and thats why they want to experiment with this..

yes it happens in space but didnt it all happen out there? i would rather prefer to use 6000 "experts" to solve the problems eath already have to make it better instead of this unnecesary stuff.. dont be a blind, ask questions.. im not a sheep, i think for myself and no waving hands can make me agree to this shit! are u a sheep?

  • You bastards!! Not in my name!!

  • im still anxious ffs gambling with everyones life

  • this really calmed me now knowing nothing could happen :)

  • OMG! u buy this shit right of? poor easyfooled human being..

  • damn man im freaked.

  • yes there u got a point! they always try to hide the bad shit to make thier shit legal.. if hitler would have said "hey lets kill 6.000.000 innocents people" then all would kick hes ass..

  • Yes. Thankfully it has malfunctioned. Thats our tax money, but better it fails than works.

  • malfunction is gods message to human being that we shall not do hes work neighter try it..

  • @hhijtyn You're a total moron. There is no god, and you are sheep. Religion is the way of the past, now we have explanations that don't require the hand waving of "god dun it", and the LHC will help us understand even more.

  • that's obvius, they're the best brains in the world, nothing is left to case.

  • i can be the best and most effective serialkiller in the world, does it make it legal for me to kill then? like: "hey guys i know this better then u and its totally safe" waving my hands and tell a nice story and public will buy it..

  • Phew..

  • Great to hear that thanks

  • Finally, THANK YOU!!!

And if people are not convinced......then I don't know.

Can't await to see the final results.

PS: Hope for some little proof that will underline the string theory.

By the way, I wonder if Mr. Witten will participate during the experiment.

    Greetings

  • i really think so.... )

  • Thanks!
