I love braids they've got me through so many awkward hairstyles and I'm white (actually native). I can agree that cornrows can look unprofessional but I actually think it depends on how big they are. They can actually look really proper, I wouldn't show up to a job interview like this just because I know people have this superficial idea about what I should look like. I don't know where u live but that's NOT true. I live in Brooklyn, NY and I've seen many officers with cornrows. As a matter of fact I have many friends who are police officers, and a few have had braids. As long as they fit under the official hat they are not penalized. But I have NOT seen a Sergeant or Capt. with them, only P.Os and Detectives.
Cornrows on a black or white man is unprofessional. It's about looking a part. When I see a man with cornrows in a professional setting, it doesn't sit right.

Our Ancestors back in africa wore their hari in braids, to keep the knaps and tangles out of their hair. This is my fovorite channel to watch..... I agree that there could be more serious topics esp. with Makael because you can get two perspectives to an issue. But I will admit that I do love the music reviews but I would like to hear more serious talk.... Like the DL issue could have went a little further than it did....... I don't know where u live but that's NOT true. I live in Brooklyn, NY and I've seen many officers with cornrows. As a matter of fact I have many friends who are police officers, and a few have had braids. As long as they fit under the official hat they are not penalized. But I have NOT seen a Sergeant or Capt. with them, only P.Os and Detectives.

In conclusion, I think you should continue making the videos that make you think, and generate discussion that goes beyond the, "OMG, what was she wearing?!" stuff. There is a time and place for all of it. Don't discontinue talking about something just because you don't get tons of views/comments/ratings from it.

However, I don't think you should let the vapid draw of celebrity influence you to the point that you're discouraged from making videos of substance. Sure, it becomes about catering to your audience, but it's also affecting you, in that you're more apt to make a Beyonce video than one where you talk about current events and issues because people actually buzz about it. I think you have to be sort of grateful for the amount of views that you get from talking about celebrities. I happen to be another one of the people who subscribed to your show after being enlightened about it due to the infamous VMAs video/tirade. the problem is also that people associate cornrows with rappers, thugs and ghetto folks so there is aleady a stigma attached to the hair style. Black folks can get around it because braids is one of the few options available to us for maintaining our hair...Caucasian folks don't have this problem

This is bull shit. People should be able to wear their hair natural as it pertains to their race. Our Ancestors back in africa wore their hari in braids, to keep the knaps and tangles out of their hair. What people have a problem with is the white cop doesn't have to wear his hair in cornrows, wheres for blacks, when we wear our hair in its natural state, the options for styling our hair is very limited. As long as the hair is neat and presentable it should be acceptable in the work place.

When my mom was younger she had a problem with the whole cornrow hairstyle problem too. She worked at the public library and her boss said that she had to have her hair straightened and take out the braids before she could return to work. Even with her being black, "traditional black hairstyles" are not really allowed in the professional working environment which really sucks and is prejudice.

regarding the cop with braids.. alot of police departments have policy's regarding hair/grooming. most require some short cut or what not and alot of them now ban visible tattoos. so anybody looking to become a police officer in the future make sure you think twice about getting that tattoo

I think if i was the police commissioner i would want my men looking uniform and my women officers looking uniform which implies power and strength (which is why the military wears the same uniform in each division, but i would tell them when they apply that condition, I wouldnt just punish him for a rule that he never knew of.

Its not professional and its disrespectful to his uniform and duty. I understand that the military and local police are different but think about this why does the military require a certain hairstyle. Neat off the shoulder if you are a woman and short and cropped if you are a man. It shows respect for your profession. Dress for success whether you are black or white. I personally feel cornrows are cute on kids but a on a grown man I'm not feeling it.
