I would pay alot to see Final Fantasy VII and Starcraft 1 made HD. Keep the gameplay just up the graphics to modern day and I would pay full price for those games.
the scale used for games is similar to a scale used in school. If the average of the class is around an 80 you can't simply change the scale so that people who are on the average are suddenly getting a 20 or 30 just to make the numbers more distributed. Games are getting higher reviews since developers want to make better quality games. No one spends however amount of time making a game just for it to get a 1 or 2 out of 10. Similar to how no one wants to study for hours on end to get a 20.
Uncharted 3? Does it suffer from PS3 syndrome, where games are largely just movies where you press buttons here and there? With some merciless spamming thrown in to make you feel like it's more interactive?

Well, Skyrim is by far better than MW3. With COD all they do is change the name, Add a couple new guns, New character then people pay 60 dollars for the exact same crappy game...
no matter how good a game is, it can't appeal to EVERYONE at the same time.
so you either have a dedicated fanbase who loves the game and others hate it (like Metro 2033), or a game which tries to appeal to as many people as possible, including even non-gamers (CoD).
being objective is easy though imo. for instance i love Far Cry 2, but objectively it's a terrible, repetitive game. it does have lots of elements which caught my eye and made me beat. but would i recommend it? no.

People only play new dungeons to prepare for new raid content, I don't think it should matter if they recycle content because you're gonna grind the shit out of the dungeon anyways and you'll be bored with it regardless. They're trying to fix classes w/ MoP.
@ElmerZero Your leaving out a big portion of raiders, the guys in the middle. The ones who are getting through current raid content and enjoying the challenge, then the nerfs come and they lose that great feeling when they finally down a boss. You should care about recycled content, your allowing Blizzard to be lazy and never come up with a new idea. And the grind? well, that brings me to the droughts of content, you wouldn't be grinding non-stop if new content came out quicker.

I forget the exact reason, but Square Enix claimed that they wouldn't go about giving FF7 an HD makeover. I don't see why, though. I figure since we've heard nothing about games like Kingdom Hearts 3 or FF Versus 13, they could at least knock that one out.
well, tb, i'm a major elder scrolls fan, but i'm also an open-minded gamer. i always try to see the bigger picture and base conclusions on top of that. and as such, i'd love to hear or see some genuinely good criticism against my favorite line of games, the problem is, it doesn't really occur.
if you're going to bash them, atleast do so properly and with good reasoning. of course the elder scrolls got flaws, they're not perfect, it's impossibe, but hey, atleast they're close.
It's great to see FFXII getting some love for a change.
It's an amazing game. An average FF, for sure, but standing on its own, it's an amazing game! I love it and i would very much like to see another made in the same style.

I have to support you with the 'HD-ifying' I love games being remade its a nice thing to have greats made greater, and I especially agree with FF7 being remade I don't understand why they haven't done that yet, FF10 had been largely slated in what I've heard from people. But I'm slightly bias because FF7 is basically one of my all time favorites games, so yeh more HD games please
PCGamer gave Skyrim 94/100 so it can't be that bad, their reviews are pretty good imo. Also i wouldn't judge a game that hasn't even been released yet

They are totally goddamn over the top these days. every freaking game gets a 8 or higher, and when it gets like a 6 you will be reading two pages of hate by the reviewer. This, and also the fact that people buy games based on what other people think and don think for theirselves. I am witnessing this on my highschool. For instance: everyone is buying mw3. i've played it a couple of times at their hous and its EXACTLY the same as mw2
@Arikuzazukira Well, that is the function of a reviewer - To relay a boiled-down experience of a game with as little personal bias as possible. Sadly, many reviewers, and especially those of bigger gaming magazines, seem to go for the majority-line instead, praising what they think they're expected to praise, with little respect to their actual experience of the game being reviewed. But in all honesty, I have a hard time believing that Skyrim is bad - Just my personal opinion :P

Interesting. The fact you stated about the leap was not as big from uncharted 1 to 2 is the same as skyrim. Todd Howard (game director) stated that Skyrim is not as large a leap as Morrowind to Oblivion

Great words of wisdom in this video too. I read that review that caused the shitstorm and it was a prime example of rating obsession, as in the review was largely positive but everyone was pissed off because he only gave an 8/10...
Probably all came from sites like IMDB where people get rating obsessed and the fact that games websites tend to only use the very top of the rating.scale.
All reviews should be done on youtube I reckon, these videos are always very helpful as even when TB isn't very objective I can just watch the gameplay, hear whats in it and decide if I like the sound of that instead of having to decide from somebody just saying *I did/ didn't like this*.
And just to bait some of those skyrim people, it doesn't look perfect, the reaction to being hit is still so shoddy looking, seriously they need to work on that

@ElmerZero It's hard to just accept that. Blizzard can do great things, that's a fact, but it just pains me they give up on that great experience just so they can get more money, it's disappointing and sad that one of my favorite companies are not what they were anymore.

YOU ARE SO RIGHT... I would linch you if you said Skyrim was bad... even if it is bad, I would be in such disbelief (for wasting so much of my life since it was announced, on searching out every leak and every video on it and such.) that I would swim from New Jersey to England, and I would water board you until you begged for death... Then I would realist the fault of my ways, and make my own bad review, then delete it because its impossible for an ES game to be bad!!! end rant.

anyways one example all though be no means mega huge is the angry joe show of good review scores for instance he gave DA:2 a 7 and DA:O a 9 because origins was god damn amazing and 2 well as good people got way to hyped for something that came out so soon and compared it to it's predecessor way to much as they really wanted and DA origins 2 instead of dragon age 2 if you get my meaning
it's true though all games are rated with a terrible system pretty much now sad face!!!

I forget the exact reason, but Square Enix claimed that they wouldn't go about giving FF7 an HD makeover. I don't see why, though. I figure since we've heard nothing about games like Kingdom Hearts 3 or FF Versus 13, they could at least knock that one out.

well, tb, i'm a major elder scrolls fan, but i'm also an open-minded gamer. i always try to see the bigger picture and base conclusions on top of that. and as such, i'd love to hear or see some genuinely good criticism against my favorite line of games, the problem is, it doesn't really occur.
if you're going to bash them, atleast do so properly and with good reasoning. of course the elder scrolls got flaws, they're not perfect, it's impossibe, but hey, atleast they're close.

It's great to see FFXII getting some love for a change.
It's an amazing game. An average FF, for sure, but standing on its own, it's an amazing game! I love it and i would very much like to see another made in the same style.

Anyways they still keep praising it, and i understand it, because it rewards you for every goddamn rediculous thing you do. You get rewards for sucking in it, AKA death streaks.
I have to agree that its a fun game to play (at friends), but i've put more than a hundred hours into Black ops and mw2, and i don't see myself playing the same game over and over again. they didnt even bother to use a new buildings!

I have to support you with the 'HD-ifying' I love games being remade its a nice thing to have greats made greater, and I especially agree with FF7 being remade I don't understand why they haven't done that yet, FF10 had been largely slated in what I've heard from people. But I'm slightly bias because FF7 is basically one of my all time favorites games, so yeh more HD games please

@TotalHalibut i totally share your opinion about game reviews. They are totally goddamn over the top these days. every freaking game gets a 8 or higher, and when it gets like a 6 you will be reading two pages of hate by the reviewer. This, and also the fact that people buy games based on what other people think and don think for theirselves. I am witnessing this on my highschool. For instance: everyone is buying mw3. i've played it a couple of times at their hous and its EXACTLY the same as mw2

@Arikuzazukira Well, that is the function of a reviewer - To relay a boiled-down experience of a game with as little personal bias as possible. Sadly, many reviewers, and especially those of bigger gaming magazines, seem to go for the majority-line instead, praising what they think they're expected to praise, with little respect to their actual experience of the game being reviewed. But in all honesty, I have a hard time believing that Skyrim is bad - Just my personal opinion :P

I always tell people not to get over-hyped... I think the first time I got disappointed because of pre-launch hype was with Burnout 4, when I got to play it I just realized it wasn't better than the previous burnouts lol...

Interesting. The fact you stated about the leap was not as big from uncharted 1 to 2 is the same as skyrim. Todd Howard (game director) stated that Skyrim is not as large a leap as Morrowind to Oblivion

@TotalHalibut However what about the score that IGN gave Dark Souls? it was a 9.5 but they took points off because the game was not for the timid. Which is the entire goal of the game, to make a hardcore and incredibly hard game? I think the score thing should just be taken out.

Great words of wisdom in this video too. I read that review that caused the shitstorm and it was a prime example of rating obsession, as in the review was largely positive but everyone was pissed off because he only gave an 8/10...
Probably all came from sites like IMDB where people get rating obsessed and the fact that games websites tend to only use the very top of the rating.scale.

All reviews should be done on youtube I reckon, these videos are always very helpful as even when TB isn't very objective I can just watch the gameplay, hear whats in it and decide if I like the sound of that instead of having to decide from somebody just saying *I did/ didn't like this*.
And just to bait some of those skyrim people, it doesn't look perfect, the reaction to being hit is still so shoddy looking, seriously they need to work on that

The pet thing isn't the same as gold farming. Gold farmers actually "create" more gold by extensive farming, causing inflation.
People selling/buying this pet just causes the gold to switch to other people.
I'm not saying Blizzard are right in doing this, but it's not the same thing goldfarmers are doing.
