  • great video!

  • tom milsom ringtone? :3

  • What th...WOW...I'm in the description! COOL. Thanks...that was unexpected!

  • @anoosepeenose If you watch to the end of the video you're in the shoutouts.

  • good lord i freaked when i saw alex i thought you had a wax model of his head, you know because that is realistic

  • @ihearttheplanet Hahaha!!! I don't know if he's sen it yet because he usually comments. And thank you for playing "Find Alex."

  • @ihearttheplanet Haha I don't know if he's sen it yet because he usually comments. And thank you for playing "Find Alex."

  • So true!

  • @PeteAnimation I did too. It's nice to get facts without commentary, which is why I prefer BBC Ah-MERca news. If they give an opinion, they tell you.

  • You keep TheAlexFrom1994 in your desk?!? How does he feel about that? Haha

Dial up imitation lol.....you do that almost too well. :-)

  • @Dingotech2000 It started when he was a guest host on a video and it got so many views. That's when we invented the "find Alex" game. I wouldn't have done it without his expressed permission.

  • @billtvmacon Just joking about Alex. I didn't know about the "game", which is awesome btw. So I guess I should start looking more closely at your vids now huh? Just one more reason you make some of the best vids on YT. :-)

  • I love your videos.....so much....you put SOO much effort into them it makes them THE BEST ONES EVER !!!! probably you're one of my top 5 youtubers and i am subscribed to 200 so people..so PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEE KEEP IT UP!!! :D :D :D

  • @Xpsychedelic60sX Wow! I need to have your words bronzed or something. Thank you so much! I am honored to be in your top 5! yay.

  • I purchased the undercoating and it was worth every penny! :)

  • @09porcupine I believe this may be the first time those words have ever been spoken. lol

  • Ah, the sounds of dial-up. Thank God we moved onto Broadband...

Also, it just goes to show, Microsoft > Apple. You wouldn't find Bill Gates wearing a turtleneck...

  • @TheL1ttleGuy Haha! I think by law Bill Gates isn't allowed to wear that.

  • That's EXACTLY how I remember Dial-Up sounding.

  • @outofthedark It was all we had, really. But it worked!

  • @billtvmacon I think worked isn't the term I would use, looking back. haha.

  • LOL - great modem impression. Those were the days. Long live 300 baud!

  • @l0gically Yes! And no one called while you were online. Am I the only one who actually liked that? lol

  • Jimmy Buffet would probably love to be related to Warren.

  • @scratchingcat Exactly! I wouldn't mind it myself. I wonder how I can become a charity?

  • 1:40 :). Great work. I caught it the first time. A Coke Zero and a smile, Or just a Touch of good ole AADD.

  • @TheBuckster3D Good eyes!

  • those bloody billionaires, why can't they just give me $1,000,000! Selfish, that's why! hehe

  • @pixonu I'm not tax deductible. lol

  • Gosh I remember dial-up. And to think I sometimes get annoyed when my Internet is running a bit slow now.

So is Alex going to be in all your videos now?

  • @skintc Well, it seems that people enjoy finding Alex and my view numbers are higher than when he's not in them. I have to admit that I may start running out of places to hide him. All in fun.

  • I listened to this video from the other room whilst in the bathroom, i pissed myself laughing...

  • @Beckquif And that's exactly the reaction I was hoping to get. LOL

  • Your modem impersonation was so good I found myself reliving the anxiety of watching my screen get painted on line at a time.

  • @johnetie I dream about that sometimes.

  • @Imxlnt2Replies I had someone say to me once, "So, that's what the internet sounds like!"

  • Where I live, you cannot cancel anything by phone. It's either a FAX or a letter that you have to send, which is a bit slow but at least you don't have to listen to them trying to win you over. As for e-mail: I lost two addresses, one 5 year old and one 10 year old, because they significantly raised the price. After that experience and changing addresses everywhere, I have decided to buy my own domain and host my own mail server and have been using that ever since.

  • @SteltekOne I like things the way they are now. So much more stable. Great! Now I've jinxed it!

  • Damn it Bill! When indigo went off I thought it was my phone instead :P This is the SECOND time I have thought this xD Another excellent video my friend :)

  • @RJmakesvids Haha! Thank you! Sorry for the confusion.

  • @billtvmacon its fine xD but I'm gunna change it to Song For The Painfully Indie now just incase :) Will you be doing NoCon again this year??

  • @RJmakesvids I'm not planning on NoCon this year. There's still come great information there. Love the Vlogbrothers but I kinda lost interest in VidCon. Too far away, to many people, too expensive.

  • @billtvmacon Agreed, I prefer small gatherings :) You can talk to people for longer then :D

  • Good Dial Up impression! Luckily, I never had to go through Dial Up because we got a computer when broadband was introduced. I'm glad, because that noise hurts.

Great video Bill, especially the Tom Milsom music. Gotta love Milsom.

  • @lonesomemajor I'm glad you didn't have to endure that. I'm making a video now for the Blue channel. I found an old lap top I used to have.

  • I once canceled an aol account (/ducks head in shame for having an aol account in the first place) by canceling the credit card. It just seemed easier after trying to call aol about it. Then I found that Dilbert did the same thing in a cartoon. I'm not sure how I feel about that.

  • @fatmaninachair Wow! I didn't know it was possible to do that! lol

  • Best ringtone ever.

  • @BarryAldridge Haha! Thanks, Barry! I like it too.

  • hahaha your dial-up noises are perfect!

  • @KatherinetheRandom Thank you! I heard them enough.

  • So I'm watching your video, and my cat is sleeping on the desktop next the computer. You started making the dial-up connect sound and IT WOKE HIM UP! That's how annoying that dial-up sound was (is). It wakes up cats!

I cancelled my CompuServe account around 2004. I hadn't used the email or logged into the service for a long time. They guy on the line said "You've been a customer for SEVENTEEN years. I had paid them over $4,000 for a service I didn't use. D'oh!

  • @realspacemodels I do that to the cats in the neighborhood all the time. OK, not really. lol

  • @realspacemodels ouch! 4k isn't exactly chump change.

  • I keep seeing dial-up back in the 90's....phew....I remember dial-up in 1984

    yup....I'm a cranky old git!

  • @BuggeritHandnShrimp I'm trying to remember when I had Compuserve. It was somewhere around 2400 baud. Do you remember when they let us have real names instead of numbers?

  • @billtvmacon let us have real names? we can have real names now? I've gone through my whole life called 1337

  • i remember trying to close down my lovefilm account which is English netflix.

and it was like trying to take on the world.

i got given all these emails and numbers to use yet they didn't work lol

thanks for the shoutout bill :)(phoneuplink) :)

  • @llindzyy Tom, YES! I love that channel. I hope you get some subs. I love the name "Lovefilm." Are you sure that's not an adult movie site?haha!

  • I like hearing you talk about the internet. You bring an interesting, different perspective because of your..... greater life experience ;)

That said, I totally remember dial-up. It, coupled with a Windows 95 PC that we had until 2004, made me regularly afraid that our computer would explode from working too hard.

  • @KatieAtLarge I'm old as dirt. I was the last of my friends to move to Windows. They even called me DOS man. lol But, when their computers had problems I could go into DOS and check things out.

  • BWAHAHAHAHAH! Do you want the undercoating!! You rock!

  • @TheSchwartzcaster Hehe. The conversation was almost that sleezy.

  • I really love the colour of that blind behind you :0) ( that's 'blind, behind' . . . not 'blind-behind' - i thought I should make that clear :/

  • @stufish4040 Haha! Got two of them for $4 at a thrift store.

  • Dial up noises were so accurate. Dear goodness I remember that clearly. Another wonderful video!

  • @itiselizabeth Thank you so much Elizabeth!

  • Dialup sounds like the dentist.

And it's just as painful :)

  • @Kie77 The end part does kinda sound like that "sucking machine" dentists have.

  • My only saving grace i sthat Paris Hilton's grandfather gave like 97% of his money to charity and Paris will only get barely $5 million . Geez! That girl goes through $5 million in one year! Poor Paris. :p

Wjen I was a kid, 300 baud was the fastest (even 1200 baud gave me 75% garbage) when i'd hook up to a B.B.S. And my family would ALWAYZ hear that annpoying on-line noise when they'd pick up the phone. Ahhh, the NOT-So-Good-Ole-Dayz. Good riddance

  • @Shaggy72 I bet they were wondering what sort of creature was on the phone.

  • Hehehe, keep it up!

  • @c4clive Thanks! Will do!

  • Back in the 90s Bell Canada decided to offer free call waiting as a promo. whenever anyone called me my internet was cut off. When I called to cancel the thing I had to argue about it, they were baffled why I would want to cancel a free service. Since then I've cancelled Bell altogether.

  • @Ape65 I remember that! There was a phone code that was "star" and then some number that would stop call waiting from knocking me offline. That seems like a lifetime ago.

  • haha briliant impression of a dailup modem :D WHEEEE_EEEP- hmmm love that sound, makes me think of the good 'ol days :P Wait i'm already 26? DAMN

  • @EelcoVlogging My first online experience was Compuserve. All DOS. lol How far we have come.

  • @billtvmacon I still rember waaaaaay back when the richest COMPANY in my town had a B.B.S. that had ONE WHOLE MEGABYTE of HARD DRIVE SPACE!

  • I'd finally forgotten about the atrocity that was dial-up internet, and you had to bring it up again. I'm dedicating all the nightmares I have tonight of busy dial tones and slowly-loading webpages to you, Bill.

  • @TheorySH You are correct. In this video I managed to traumatize myself.

  • Allo? Just calling to ask if there's a reward for kidnappers.

    ...

Yep, there's proof of that at 1:40. He keeps them happy, though.

    ...

No, I'm not in for the money, I just want Bill's dial-up modem.

    ^-^

  • @33Chimel33 LOL! Yes! Congratulations, you found Alex in the video. The last three have had his picture somewhere. When I do this I seem to get more views than usual.

Also, I think I have a couple of internal modems here you can have.

  • @billtvmacon Ah, Easter eggs...

No thanks, internal or external modems won't fit modern computers anymore, no ISA bus or serial port.

I still remember entering some AT commands to make my US Robotics (like in Asimov stories) modem mute instead of waking up the parents when watching ... you know ... porn animated gifs, porn ascii art, or reading nifty stories.

I see you were on Compuserve too. I had a 5-digit ID, before they allowed names as email aliases, not just numbers. ^-^

  • Great video :) Makes a lot of good points. Also, good morning to all :P

  • @InterestingFlavour Thanks for watching.

  • Has anyone ever told you that you look and sound like Don Knotts?

  • @Theblargen You need to go to my videos and search Vblogdewey Reply. You'll find my Don Knotts impression.

  • I first heard of the Japan earthquake through the internet. I logged on the morning after (it happened night-time in my timezone) and saw lots of Facebook-posts with "My thoughts are with Japan" and my first thought was "Oh, no. That can't be good." Which it wasn't. :(

  • @Speilbilde I know...all of the calfiornia youtubers (that were up) were tweeting about it mostly @brebishop

  • Excellent impression of a dial-up modem :)

  • @andrewrey2006 Thank you! I used to do impressions for a living.
