@AestusSymphonia I would say not. It has lots of juicy goodness in tone but you can't "chug" on it and it has relatively low distortion compared to say a Mesa or Diezel or Bad Cat. Most Guitar Centers I've been in recently have one so you should go try it out.
Good demo. I have a Custom 8 in my Les Paul and I think it's great. I just bought one of these and will try it out when it arrives. With this demo I'm liking all the sounds you did. Also the cleanest clean boost sounds promising.
I've liked this pedal with just about every of the 15+ amps I've tried it with. The demo is low quality but I think it showcases the pedal's capabilities pretty well. Let me know how you like it.
It is incredibly well made and sounds great. The SD Custom 5 is must like the Gibson Burstbucker Pro, but a little hotter and smoother. The guitar itself has topnotch hardware and I was surprised by the craftsmanship. Unfortunately, I'm not a humbucker kinda guy any more and I'm selling this one for $700 shipped. If you're interested let me know. The new ones go for $1000, have a JB instead of the Custom 5, and have a little more bling. I prefer the Custom 5 myself.
ah no! haha ill probably grow out of humbuckers myself soon enough, but im still making the most out of them in gigs and stuff :) I know this guitar has amazing clean tone, but i cant seem to find any examples of it with a destorted, more metal sound. Can it cope with a high gain and stuff? cause i tend to play a lot of metal / metal core
Humbuckers are a matter of preference. If you want metal you want humbuckers. It really depends on your style, but Fernandes makes a few models with EMGs in them and those are probably better for what you want.
Custom 5s sound great on clean, but they are more of a distortion humbucker. Think about a Les Paul tone more for rock-types I tend to think they do anything from ACDC to Muse to Coheed to metal. Not quite as hot as the JB and not as tight on the bass as EMGs, but it is high gain.
Problem I'm trying to solve is muddy lows. Kinda hard to describe, cause I don't like sterile, but I don't want garble: think Little Queenie off get Yer Yas Yas Out, or 'I'll Give you Money' off Frampton Comes Alive. Thick but really clear at the same time.
It seems easy to get nice mid distortions out of my amp, and most pedals do mids and highs well also. But low E, drop D, my setup just loses something...sounds muddled. How would you you rate this pedal at distorting low frequencies?
I like the low frequencies, but I see what you mean by muddled. I only get the muddled sound when both the Boost/OD and Distortion are on, but if you did just the distortion and maybe worked with it a bit you could probably get that sound you're thinking of.
EVH said, "I'm a tone chaser", which he can do, he's got the time and money to try anything. We of lesser means and regular jobs have a harder time. Can't buy 25different pedals and try each one with our guitar and amp and other effects. I hate dropping $100-$200 on an effect only to find I don't like it. But if I get one of these, I'll buy it used. From what I've seen, people who paid full $ for a new Fulltone and needed help later from this company was left with a bad taste in his mouth.
As with anything, don't blow your $200 before you try it yourself. Still, if you have a Tele you can definitely get great Rage Against the Machine tone and it gets pretty heavy. It's very versatile. You might try a Jekyll and Hyde too. I wouldn't trade this for any other pedal.
i wish i could tell you which was better, but my mic is an sm58 and it sucks for this kind of stuff. i know nothing about recording just guitars and amps.
Bass is a little over halfway up, mids are just below halfway up and treble is right at halfway up. Nothing too wacky.
It is a bit of a "harsh" pedal on the distortion side, I found that ordering the distortion side first took some of the edge off and fattened things up.
It I hadn't lived with it for a while, I would blame the camera's microphone. Poor harsh sounding pedal... and I am normally a Fulltone pedal lover with 3 in my collection, going for the fourth (as much as I am trying to avoid it).
Don't like the fulltone sounds too loose and fuzzy to my ears

@Marathonmarch Just out of curiosity, do you have a preferred distortion pedal?
cowardm 2 weeks ago
@cowardm Yeah I like a few of them, biyang metal end, hardwire sc-2 suhr riot are just a few

Really nice tone man... I like it. Really makes that ol' Crate sing. This is one of my favorite pedals

Thanks for doing this. I am a big fan of this pedal and you give a very nice demo series

Hey this is a great video, very informative but can you combine them together at once or just one or the other?
MuseGroove12 4 years ago
Later in the video I combine them. So, in short yes, you can combine them and it sounds pretty amazing.

can this pedal go heavy ? i see you're using a humbucker, but if i am using a single coil ( tele ) can it get a heavier sound ?

whats better the samson g-track or the mxl 990 for a vocal mic ???

the SM57 is the one for recording amps i believe, Dynamic mics are what you want.

Depends on your voice. AT 4033, AKG C414 (also good distant mic for guitars, almost anything pretty by Nuemann...

what are your tone settings on the amp itself? . . . bass, treble, mid, presence?
thanks!
