You could use fraps / hypercam (free)/cam studio to record from BBC Iplayer or if you download go into the saving directory and copy the files into another place , then copy them back into the saving directory when you want to watch them , you can keep them indefenly like that.

You may also connect your computer to second monitor but hook that up through a DVD or VHS recorder.
