  • well done

  • @mduxburygrip We got a pussy right here who wants to start a futile youtube fight. Just turn your computer off. You spend way too much time doing pointless things.

  • @mduxburygrip If you wanna do heavy lifting with bad forms and hurt yourself and embarrass yourself in the gym be my guest.

  • Dude you are super strong! + 1

  • great job man! i stumbled upon that type of rowing a few months ago. I was struggling with some lower back pain and, deadlifts along with that row took the pain away. I dare anyone who says your form is wrong to do that lift with that weight and with that proper form.

  • At last someone who knows how to perform a barbell row correctly..........

A very rare thing on YouTube .

  • Comment removed

  • awesome lift

  • U need to lift it from the air not the ground

  • wouldnt agree on the bodybuilder part... ever seen ronnie coleman's 5 plates each side rows =P? more lke trainer rows. god i see some smallass weakling trainers in my gym doing rows with 25 each side and struggling

  • Poor posture, it prevented you from going at least 10 kg heavier.

  • I realize this is an old vid....but for anyone who's wondering, these are called Pendlay Rows, not Barbell Rows. They target the lats more than the traps/rhomboids.

  • @hungry5768 actually this is how bent over barbell rows were done in the good old days, the olympic coach Glenn Pendlay didn't invent this exercise at all

  • Now THAT'S a barbell row. Way to show how it's done.

  • I'm not trying to make you look bad or anything but you have a such a bad form.

Not only it looks bad but more importantly, you can hurt your lower back.

Not trying to be a homo or anything but you need to bring your butt out and not have a bent back. You face shouldn't be looking down. Your face should be facing the front. Remember guys; it's better to do lighter weights with good forms than really heavy weights with bad forms. Trust me, I hurt my lower back doing heavy deadlifts.

  • @nepatriots77 >not have a bent back

    >bent back

    >bent

    >bent over row.

  • wow dude ur fucking strong

  • nice dude ur strong as hell. i can only row like185

  • sick pull son

barbell rows are definitely one of the toughest exercises to do

  • thought this was gonna be a deadlift, than saw u and thought wow thats a big guy for a 265 deadlift than it was rows and i was very impressed

  • hey im doing madcow also. just a quick question though does the bar have to hit your sternum on each rep?

  • Hm, i like to keep the tension in ma lats so i don't put the bar down. Are you strength athlete?.. Anyway good job :)

  • wow your a very strong lad gjdm

  • Be big, fellas. Not just in your arms, but in your character. There's no need for a man to ridicule and insult.

  • Isn't it supposed to touch the torso????

  • upper ab/ bottom chest

  • very good!!

  • Good Job!

  • jeeez, calm down, i was just joking, man

  • Why dont you let it hang infront of you instead of it going on the floor?

  • to give his lower back a break in between reps.

  • Pendlay rows rest on the floor. Some strength coaches say it's more effective.

  • ooh, ok thanks

  • i do believe that you should keep your elbows in for most exercises. MOST.

  • is there a site with a lot of info on barbell row form?

  • nice job!! i thought this was a deadlift, you suprised me

  • nice work man ! just out of curiosity, what r ur feelings from this 5x5 training? (single factor or dual factor) ? wich u r doing? how many weeks have u been able to continue the progression about the weights? (at your status = strong lifter already the progression is of course hard to keep up)

  • I no longer use 5x5 training. It was good and it helped a lot at the time, but i got all i could out of it. I think it's better suited to begginer's. Doing Jim wendler's 5/3/1 at the moment and finally starting to get new p.r's in all lifts.

  • damn good lift. your a strong guy BB rowing 245.

  • does it count if you set it down? your older so you would know get back to me but nice job

  • Yes it counts. It's actually harder to do reps this way, as your lifting from a dead stop each time as apposed to bouncing the weight off the floor.

  • @jamspastic why would anyone bounce the weight off the floor in a row?....I've never seen that done then again your bent over pretty far targetting the upper back and not the lower lats.

  • it's a pendlay row, you are supposed to reset the weight after every rep

  • reps look slightly short. Is the bar hitting your sternum?

(Not trying to be an ass like that twerp Neil btw, just curious)

  • I do remember thinking the last two reps were a little short, but it was a while ago now, and this was my max back then.

  • the only thing i kinda agree with neil on is it does seem like u stop a lil short on the way down but other then that don't listen to his ass.. its obvious he doesnt lift for power... good shit bro thats heavy as hell i have a hard time keepin any form with 225... my big problem is my grip though.. have trouble holding onto the weight for an extended time and i lose focus...

  • Good form, you must be pretty strong. And don't listen to that guy neil, he's a fucking retard.

  • nicely done

  • Pendlay row!!! just awesome.

  • Comment removed

  • Perfect form...great lift...thats true 5x5 strength

  • no need 2 bite my head off!!!! .i wasnt saying you were wrong in ya lifting style...peace

  • Just read the comment about this lad being a pretender......? Doing "half assed reps" and one about cheating!

Perhaps some of the "experts" would like to check this "pretender" doing full squats for 140kg x 20reps.

Thats nearly 3 tons in 4mins. I think its safe to say he aint a "pretender".

  • he s doing it the power lifters way. Not a body duilding exercise where he contracts his lats and holds for a pause. He s doing it this way to increase his power/accelaration. He probably couldnet give a flying fig about muscular developement. The program he s following is all about 'strength building'. This is a supplementary exercise to benefit his main lifts. Bench/deadlift/squat.

  • Correct!!! Only i don't bench!! ;)

  • gd effort but you need 2 bring your torso up slighty as you bring the weight up so you can squeeze and contract your lats properly o and dont let the weight hit the floor you want the muscles in your back to work the whole time when you do the exercise.Instead of using 121kg try using about 85kg and learn to contract to lats correctly. If you carnt hold the weight a your peak contraction then you havnt got the weight there through muscluar power you go it there through cheating!

  • Why don't you try the excersise this way, build up to this weight, and then tell me i need to contract my lats more! My lats got worked more than enough my friend. As for "dropping" the weight on the floor between reps, you'll find it's harder that way too. Just like with deadlifts, lifting the weight when it is "dead" takes much more power.

  • jamspastic:

The error in your technique is easily proven when you look at yourself in this video and see that you don't carry any muscle.

  • Neil6000:

The fact I am rowing, 121 kgs for 5 strict reps proves that there is no error in my technique.

  • jamspastic:

You said, "121 kgs for 5 strict reps"

    LOL !!!

You have no idea what strict reps are. The best those reps can be called is half-assed. Try cutting the amount of weight in half and you might get one strict rep if you're lucky.

The fact that you have no muscle on your physique proves that there is a serious error in your technique. You are relying on momentum to throw the weight up and aren't even getting a full range of motion; you are stopping a foot short of completing the rep.

  • In other words, if you really believe that you are doing those reps strictly with that weight, then why don't you have a back like Dorian Yates, or even show any back development at all???

Obviously, the atrocious form you are using isn't working for you as your appearance is proof of that - you don't carry any muscle on your upper body - especially your back.

Sorry but real strength and large amounts of muscle DO go together regardless of what you might hear.

  • How can you see how well developed my back is when this video is shot in poor lighting and i'm wearing a t-shirt!? Not that I care what you think of my physique, or do I train for size, but to say i have no development at all is just plain stupid. What kind of back development do you think it takes to deadlift 200kgs for 15 reps? Or 225kgs for 5reps?

  • I have plenty more vids on youtube for you to critique my form and development, but unless your next comment reads something like: "Here is a video of me rowing with x amount of weight with perfect form, just to prove to Jamspastic i'm not a complete tosser!!!Check out my musclular devlopment!!!" Then i dont want to know.

  • jamspastic:

If you can't take criticism of your obvious bad form then you shouldn't post videos of yourself on YouTube.

  • Pathetic asswhipe!

  • @Neil6000 Dorian Yates is a roid head. "real strength and large amounts of muscle DO go together" WRONG. You should watch some fighters train. I've got a friend who thia boxes and he weighs 78K. He can bench 120K and he looks skinny. Bodybuilding is aesthetic.

  • @jonny86121

120K is nothing to bench and I have seen skinny lifters do it - anyone that can bench press 400 Lbs. and upwards will look like they can. REAL strength does require real muscle and you are delusional to think otherwise.

  • @CaneFu How do you differ body types to the weight they can lift? The guy I took arguement with was talking about Dorian Yates, a steriod user. I've seen bodybuilders who can NOT lift 120K who look huge in comparison. Where did you get the impression that I thought "real" strength does not require "real" muscle lol?

  • @jonny86121

"Where did you get the impression that I thought 'real' strength does not require 'real' muscle?"

    From your quote below...

"real strength and large amounts of muscle DO go together' WRONG"

Now you want to back peddle and amend your "WRONG" comment. I'll restate this for you - truly strong people will also carry a lot of muscle and again - a 120K bench press is NOTHING. There is a difference between just being big and carrying a lot of muscle - some guys are just fat.

  • @CaneFu I say again... where did you get the impression that I thought real strength does not require real muscle?

My quote "real strength and large amounts of muscle DO go together, WRONG"

You're confusing real muscle with large muscle.

I dumbbell bench press 120K. Its taken me fucking ages to hit the mark. My friend who does thia boxing does not bench because big muscle does not benefit a fighter. Yet when he got on the bench press for a laugh... he pressed out 120K for 10 reps.

  • @jonny86121

"bench press 120k...he pressed out 120k for 10 reps"

Again, you keep ignoring the fact that 120k is NOT a standard by which to measure great strength. Find me a skinny guy that can bench press 500 Lbs. and it would give credit to your statement, using 260 lbs. as an example means nothing because it is not a lot of weight to bench press. ; My statement still stands - a man who is truly strong will carry a lot of real muscle - period.

  • @CaneFu what do you mean alot of muscle? My arguement was with a guy using a steriod abuser as his arguement. Now you have come along and changed the arguement lol.

    /watch?v=cOoP5yX1bZ4

watch these guys who weigh 68K throwing up weight 3x their own bodyweight over there head. I don't see them carrying alot of heavy muscle either... I see lean strong fuckers.

  • @jonny86121

You refuse to understand simple English - I give up.

  • @CaneFu Really? Thats it? You rudely interupt my issue with someone else... and now... you give up? Couldn't you have just saved me the hassel and not bothered poking your nose in from the start. The problem with weight training is that once a man starts.. he suddenly becomes an expert. I have more respect for fighters who go through gruling circuit training and heart exloding cardio. But only real men and real strength can be tested by lifting weights? Fuck off ya nonse.

  • @jonny86121

"The problem with weight training is that once a man starts he suddenly becomes an expert"

As you think you are...after almost 40 years as a gym manager, owner, coach, and trainer, I AM an expert. I have also learned to recognize a boob when I come across one, and that's exactly what you are and I won't waste anymore time with you.

  • @CaneFu Ouch sorry mate... at first I thought you were another one of those youtube experts. I didn't realise you were a real life self proclaimed expert.

You couldn't even back up your ridiculous comments so instead you decide to tell me you have a long history of being in an industry you clearly know nothing about? LOL

40 years as a trainer and you're on youtube telling people whats what? HA obviously people in real world told you to fuck off too.

  • @jonny86121

I guess you're right - I AM just wasting my time here with you ungrateful twits and won't do it anymore. My bad for trying to get some truth out through a popular medium.

  • @CaneFu Here is to another 40 years of talking utter bullshit, old man.

If im on youtube slating teens at your age I hope someone puts a fucking bullet in my head lol. Fuckin pedo.

  • @CaneFu /watch?v=EFZZQEAVtz0&feature=related

theres a skinny kid benching 320lbs

  • @CaneFu /watch?v=IRxGDtpPsBc&feature=related

skinny 14 year old pressing out 140K

If you don't agree that 140 is impressive... then at least admit to the fact that there are heavy muscle guys out there who can not lift that weight.

  • @CaneFu /watch?v=AhGQMEx_Oqk

93K guy pressing 217K... he doesnt look like a monster. He isnt heavy. Just strong.

  • @CaneFu Maybe you are an awesome lifter.. and thats great. But my arguement was with the guy using a steriod abuser as a deterent for real strength.

Check out Tank Abbott pressing /watch?v=zFfXIvvBFp8 and he looks fat.

120K maybe NOTHING to you... but its where I'm at.

  • I get really tired of seeing guys with sub par development doing half ass reps like this while using way too much weight for their ability. This guy isn't even coming close to pulling the weight all the way up to touch his abs.

Even better would be if he could hold the weight at the top for a second while he flexes his lats - he would probably have to cut the weight he is using in half to accomplish that..

In other words, his guy is nothing more than a pretender wanting to show off on YouTube.

  • Then post a video of your routine

  • Lol at "hold the weight at the top for a second while he flexes his lats"!! I get tired of dickheads that havn't even got the balls to post a video of there own up telling me what i'm doing is cheating and wrong. You havn't got a clue what your talking about, so piss off.

  • Almost good! try to pull the barbell to your upper abdominals and let the weight down as slowly as possible.

  • i wouldnt really say the bodybuilder way is stupid this guy is a fag

  • more like pendlay rows. barbell rows, u pull towards ur lower abdominal

  • nice style, well executed. keep up the good work

  • hey, just got a quick question- whenever i do rows on the 5x5 training my legs always feel a bit shakey under the constant weight, is it best to always drop it to the floor on ecah rep or am i just a wuss XD

    cheers

  • @CelticAndProud:

You're supposed to drop the weights down between each rep, like the guy in this vid is doing. Same thing for deadlifts (hence the name 'dead'lift). You can read about it in the URL in the description. The weights are supposed to drop, and then up again.

  • good work...

  • nice, thanks for the vid

  • The video I first tried to see was down, took me about 10 mins to find a video that wasn't being done halfway by a guy with a huge upper body, skinny ass legs, talking about going "slow", set to stupid music. Thank you!

  • hello there nice job but you could do it better lift the weight off the ground stand strait then bend forward slightly use wrist straps they give you a better grip and you could row that like 10 times you need to keep a constant motion on the row don't drop it then row its the best back builder...

  • That is bodybuilding form, this is strength training.

  • Ignore the last comment.. My error.. I didn't read the type of training you are on!!

  • Good stuff but by dropping the weight to the floor you are not getting a good stretch on the lats.. You need to be more upright..

  • thank you man for showing the proper form to the movement, i'm sick of see guys bending over 45 degress, etc. I do them like this, but on a platform so I don't deload (such as pendley)

  • impressive....

  • Great job man, one of the rare videos of a row set with good weight and solid form~

  • Never have been and never will, just because someone is stronger than you, don't just assume their on the gear.

  • Yeah, show some respect.

  • Why do you say he`s on steroids??

  • Kenbrucelesliedale - Your a fucking idiot, u can't just assume someone is on them, who the fuck do u think u r? u a psychic or remote viewer or something?. He's not exactly freaky big is he? he's not rowing with 300kg is he? maybe he just trains hard- something someone with your mentality will always fail at. Wanker.

  • Good shit bro. These guys need to realize everybody works out differently depending on what their trying to achieve. Dipshits.

  • Good Job Man. I'm happy to see that there is someone who does the exercise as it should be done- that's the right way, your form is perfect.

  • How wide should ur grip be? Same as bench press?

  • thats good, iguess this is the strngth style barbell row rather than just holding it in the air each time, you drop it and start again, i fins that when u drop it u lsoe the pump, if ur still holding the bar, you can build up a pump easier by doing more succesive reps. my low back hurts, why, i bend at my knees etc. if i keep doing the row, will my low back eventually strengthen and give me a chance to work the other actual bak muscles??

  • Hi. It's hard to say why your lower back is hurting without seeing a video of your form. It may be rounding your back, as it looks like you were doing so in your clean and press video, so it could be down to bad form.

  • Thats has to be one of the worst forms i have ever seen.

You are going to really hurt yourself doing it that way.

Also, its going to build little or no muscle

  • Really? Well thats strange, i've been doing them this way for a good year now, i've had no injurys an i've built a lot of muscle and strength to. Whats going on!!!!!??

  • yeah your right I've been telling him to throw it in the air and catch it with this teeth then squats it in reverse style and put it down, and do it again.......jamspastic this guys a dick don't know what your talking about fuck face, show us some of your vids lets see what your all about.....

  • You are the dick you asshole

  • gona cry....go on put some of your vids on if your man enough.....unless your still trying to lift the bar off the floor.....you crack me up....

  • I think you have a thing for jamspastic.

You much like the way he bends over

  • Your the only batty boy around here, ya fuckin cunt!

  • good form, just one question, arent u supposed to have your head up looking straight? just askin, not trying to be a smartass

  • i think if you have your head up and looking forward, then it would most likely put your spine in a unnatural state, which may cause a spine injury or unnecessary stress.....just a thought!!!.....

  • I thought that you SHOULD keep your head up, while looking forward to keep the spine straight like during deadlifts, or in this case, the barbell row

I never knew it put the spine in an unnatural state? If you're right then I've been in an unnatural state every time i dead lift!

  • So when you dead lift do you look at the ceiling, and look straight ahead of you that is not natural for your spine or neck muscles, when deadlifting you should keep your head straight and your eyes about 45 degrees or so, that's what I do and it works for me......but every body type is different, what works for some may not work for other....

  • No, as I bend down to my head is facing let's say a picture frame on the wall ahead of me. As I pick up the weight, my head continues to face that picture frame

  • well that sounds about the right way for your head position!!!!

  • No. This can mess with your neck as well as arching your lower back. Don't look up and don't look down. Just keep you head in line with your spine. This is a pretty good example of head position. I'm not an expert or anything, but I think this guy's back it rounding just slightly. Probably need a bit more flexibility in his hamstrings. I'm in the same boat, I have problems with proper squat, dead lift, and row techniques because of tight hamstrings among other things.

  • he's obviously a strength athlete or power lifter you fucking moron. Cunts like you need the shit kicked out them, wannabe muscle media reading fags who have never lifed a weight in their life... 5x5 is a strength programme not bodybuilding ya pric!!!!

  • Hello Mr Fuck face, why don't you post a vid of you doing heavy barbell row let every body see how to do them the fuck face way, you haven't got a clue muscle boy. Why don't you fuck off to you chrome plated, shiny machine work-out with 25 sets and 150 rep work-out, and then sick a needle up your ass, so that you can get rid of that fuck face you have.....bitchs like you need a bitch slap with a 20 plate......

  • Real bodybuilders know that there isn't just one way of doing bent over rows. Ur a fkn disgrace

  • There may be other ways to do them, but this is the most effective way for strength training, so why would i do them any other way? There's more to life than having big biceps. Now fock off dickless.

  • I wasn't talking about you... reread my comment as a response to wojtek0000's comment lol

  • Oops! Sorry bud. Thought you were having a go at me to! Easy mistake to make!

  • Oh my god your right!! All this time i've been doing these wrong!! I'm supposed to HOLD the weight in mid air!!!! And forget about resting inbetween reps!! I'll blast em out as fast as possible next time!!! WOW!! Thank you soooo much Mr expert on training tehcnique!!

Listen up cunt lips, you clearly know nothing about real training, or anything else by the sounds of it, so piss off gay boy. The day you can do better, then feel free to shoot your mouth off.

  • Other people have pretty much said it but yeah you have great form on this lift. And the weight is ridiculous good job bro.

  • I have seen alot of men do this at the gym folks with big boddies but I havent even seen one of them do it in such a good form other than the coach himself so that was awsome keep up the good work!

  • Thanks man. It's all about good form........ and progresivly heavy poundages.

    Thanks for the comments.

  • This was more of a pendlay row. Nice form though, good stuff.

  • i thought with barbell rows you were supposed to hit your upper abdomen with the bar? no?

  • I think it can vary to whatever is comfortable for you, i could have got a little more height on them though, but it was HEAVY dude!

    Thanks for the comment.

  • ur a beast man... complete beast and nice form... im starting the program myself this week... looking forward to it, thanks for helping me understand the form :) you think you could upload videos of all the other exercises in the program, that would be a BIG help, thanks :)

  • Thanks man, never been called a beast before lol!

All the main movements i've been doing are already on here. i replaced the bench press with weighted dips(new vid coming soon) and i havn't got the space to do power cleans :(

New shoulder press vid coming soon allso, with improved form! Look foward to see some of your vids dude!

  • Awesome form. Most people doing heavy rows are in the shrug position. I'm looking forward to starting 5x5 myself.

  • Good form and strength.
