  • Id probably vote for the koala; at least he can keep his head straight and not slanted..and doesn't talk crap!

  • /gasp /gasp /gasp...

  • Hey Lyn Allison, at the next election do you think that you could acyually get the candidates to actually make themselves known & actually campain.

  • The koala is stoned dickheads!

  • I agree!!!!!

  • This is gay.What a pointless add.

  • yea, I luv koalerz

  • he is one sexy hot aussie give me a taste o dat

  • That was weird... but more good info... thks.

  • This is truly painful. The Democrats are dead as a political force.

And does Lyn Allison have a problem holding her head straight? It looks like she keeps trying, but it just keeps plopping back down (seriously - watch the video again)

  • Im going to have to agree with you about her head! maybe one of the other democrats could have helped by holding it up straight for her

  • Aussie version of Donnie Darko

  • This vid is hilarious, and the Koala a wee bit freaky.

I agree about the citizenship test being rubbish - just because other countries have introduced such tests already doesn't mean Australia has been lagging behind, or that these tests are automatically good. I would want someone to gain Aussie citizenship from stating their own values and contribution to Australia, rather then being able to memorize a right winged pop quiz.

But what alternative do the Democrat's offer?

  • u suk b a fuken aussie all other countrys make u do a test 2 get citizen ship so y cant we cuz if we dont ppl will just come and become a aussie citizen and might not even speak a word of engish and that leaves us open all sorts of things includeing terriost attack u r assholes.

  • Your not doing so well with English yourself there aussiekid1232. The test is no more about English than about stoping Terrorists. One question asks "what is Australia's National flower" (which is of course Wattle). Thank goodness questions like that have been included to filter out those nasty Terrorists.

I'm a very VERY patriotic Australian who buys Australian made and Australian owned items where choice allows. And I'm definitly voting for Democrats where choice allows as well!

  • This is like.. worse than Naomi Robson with the lizard on her shoulder. LOL

  • That the most un-Australian looking koala Ive ever seen.

  • Australia needs a bill of rights, Australia needs the Democrats - the invasion of the NT proves that. Who said we needed a citizenship test? I don't consider John Howard to be an effective citizen, but he could answer all these questions. I have read Little Children are Sacred, it didn't say go invade the NT John.

  • NT is an enlightened movement to bring a police presence and the rule of law to indigneous communities - and to tackle the corrosive effect of alcohol dependence often the root cause of the horrid abuse against women and children. A Bill of rights is a denial of rights - by codifying rights we give unprecedented power to the unelected judiciary and may in turn make concrete certain rights we may later come to see as less deserving - ie the right to bear arms in the United States.

  • You could provide a sample of the test so that what we know you are saying is not bullshit, instead of trying to tell us what to think, tell us why we would think what you want us to.

  • edmand barton (spelling??) was the first prime minister and Australia was federated in 1901!!! not hard stuff to remember

  • Except the spelling, right?

Wow, look at everyone hating the Democrats for having policies!

  • Don Chipp would hang his head in shame.

The Democrats are just another left wing party these days. Bring back the days of a centrist 3rd party that could actually deal with Labor or the Liberals.

Good riddance at this election. I hope you enjoy losing your seats to the greens and Labor.

  • This pathetic video only underscores how irrelevant the dems have become (we are one of the last liberal western democracies nations to adopt a test)y,ou will not retain any elected member of the federal parliament, the only shame is I wont get to watch such amaterish but indeed hilarious videos like this anymore...

  • No good hearted, committed people will be denied citizenship The test has an exceedingly high pass rate and you can take it as many times as you like. All you need is a moderate command of our language and to devote a few hours to brushing up on key events in our past, the nature of our democracy and some of our core values, something all potential citizens should aspire to.

  • Heyy this video is awsumm!!

i know when asutralia was federated and that was in 1901 and the first prime minister of autralia was sir edmund barton i learnt about the government at school and i really enjoyed it! keep up the gudd work guys!! u rock!!

  • The fact women and indigenous people have no mention is beyond me, but they have also helped to shape australias image. One tip to all of you taking the test.... STUDY!!!! Its not that bloody hard. Ide rather people had to earn their citizenship. We are the greatest country alive and if you want to be here, earn it!

  • Migrants can come here, and if you dont know basic knowledge of australia then its your own problem not being able to become a citizen. Democrats are a bunch of idiots and most of them shouldnt even be anywhere near office! and for their information, its not his view, its common history and knowledge. Its not irrelevant if you dont understand english. Its not irellevant if you dont know australia's history, Diggers, minners, mateship and sportsman. That is what australia has been all about.

  • If it wasnt for john howard coming into power and enforcing everything he has, then we would be in recession and to top it off, i seriously dont think that i want to be standing in line for a loaf of bread and some meager supplies with food stamps because the australian dollar aint worth gins piss.

  • Screw the democrats, they are labours lap dogs. Cropduster is right, im not changing for squat, im not changing because a group of people whinged about the way i live or the way i look. Most of you have no idea about the way labour ruined this country 20 years ago.

  • What most of you children dont seem to understand is that Labour owns all the media, that john howard is slandered like this against his will.

  • How dare most of you assume that john howard is unfair. Ive seen the citizenship test and its a piece of piss.

  • Targeting with what, Yakovich, you tosser??? The idea is to test a potential new Australian's sincerity. I'm all for migrants from ANY part of the world if they want to be a part of Australian socienty. If you want people to come here who expect us to implement change for their sake (e.g. banning celebration of Christmas and Easter at some schools so as not to offend/influence children from other backgrounds)then I think you need to piss off with them. THIS IS NOT ENGLAND

  • Exactly my point. If after four years in Australia, a person can't answer those basic questions about our culture, they can't be serious about becoming "Aussies" and have little interest in Australia's people. Not on!

  • There are plenty of Australians who can't answer those questions. What do we do about them?

  • Cropduster7, the citizenship test has nothing to do with who comes into Australia, it is about who can become an Australian citizen. Our tight immigration laws govern who comes into Australia.

To become and Australian citizen you must have lived in Australia for 4 years (12 months of which you are required to have permanent residency status.)

  • My concern is that to pass the test you'll have to study and realistically this means gaining a greater knowledge on Australia than the average Australian. Be buggered if I want all these foreigners knowing more about my bloody country than I do!

  • I agree with 'brefsone', fuck you democrats. You pricks would let anyone into the country regardless of what they think of Aussies...Do-gooder fuckheads. John Howard all the way!!!

  • See what I mean WhoStar7. cropduster7 here is the type of person that the Government is targeting. They have no idea but they still get to vote.

  • hehe, thats why im for Labour

  • Haha so crazy! Hope to see the Democrats Koala in more ads!

  • AussiePoliticsReport,

That is the whole point of the video. We know we are not actors, and we are not trying to be. Yes, Koala's are only found in Australia and that is the whole irony of the skit that normal full blooded Australian's could fail the test because the questions are so obscure and because the test truly do not represent 'Australian culture' and highlights very random things that typical Australian's would not know...

  • Sorry Dems but this is a lame ad with lame acting.

Also, you say "we choose who is allowed to come to this country and who isn't". Since when is that a new thing? Pretty standard worldwide I would have thought.

I'm pretty sure that Koalas come from Australia so to "go back where they came from" is kinda weird.

    Complete drum up Lyn.

  • I don't agree with the C test either Lyn; but

what's wrong with mateship and diggers?

The test is just a carry on from other issues, ie: children overboard, sep 11, David Hicks, the war in Iraq, etc etc.

  • du mean its jst another mistake by the government? Lol, i can see what u mean But seriously, i was all for a test, or at least immigrants knowing a bit about Aus, but i reckon that sort of thing could be picked up in the mandatory 2 or 3 years they need to live here before any citizenship thing in the first place. Dont u rekon?

  • aww poor koala.

  • It is reasonable to ask people from overseas to do a test.

They only need to get 60% and the answers are all provided in a booklet.

It shows commitment to becoming Australian.

Do you have any idea how hard it is to get into America? Obviously not.

  • The problem is, the booklet is actually WRONG and misleading on many points (eg. federation; religion etc) as well as trivial.

At the end of the day, this test is just another colossal advertising exercise and as such a WASTE of taxpayers' money. After all, it if it so easy, then why even bother with it? Just to make yourself feel good?

  • It is only right that they show an active interest and desire to learn about Australian culture.

It is also reasonable to expect they do the test.

    Repeat, they only need 60%.

  • My concern is that to pass the test you'll have to study and realistically this means gaining a greater knowledge on Australia than the average Australian. Be buggered if I want all these foreigners knowing more about my bloody country than I do!

  • No offence but it is pure recall.

If you don't know most of the answers to the test you are ignorant and it is ridiculous that you don't want "foreigners knowing more about the bloody country than you do!"

Which I somehow don't think will happen from reading a booklet.

  • It was a joke Joyce

  • And I'm supposed to tell that how Barnaby?

  • lol Don

  • how is a citizenship test propaganda??? its hardly gonna buy votes anyway.

  • The test is designed to appease the ignorant. The Government knows the test is worthless but a lot of dumb arsed aussies are going to believe it will actually achieve something. It's going to attract the moron vote.

  • hahah a faggot in the dems , figures, get off youtube your all fucking lame

  • lol this was on tv so i watched it here

  • These test questions sound like they came out of a 1950's text book. I agree with Lyn, the whole thing is propaganda.

  • This is hardly arguing for the sake of it. Good people that would make a genuine contribution to this country could be excluded because of this test and a would-be terrorist could memorise the answers for the sake of passing. This test is hardly a good way of judging who should become citizens.

  • I think YOU need to mature with your arguments. You have not actually made your case as to why the citizenship test is a good thing. You just go on a hypocritical barrage about Lyn Allison, saying that she is arguing for the sake of it. It seems you are doing just that.
