@nyy8851 No, it's merely a way to modify the spread and pattern of the shot. However, if you do not use a choke, you want to use a blank insert to protect the threads at the muzzle.
@fredjustsucks no, but tom knapp is sponsored by benelli and federal premium ammunition. And the champion target line is owned by the same company that owns Federal, ATK
i got a benelli m2 american shotgun and i have a modified choke on there.. i cant seem to get any doves when i lead them.. i was wonderin if i should get a different choke or dont use a choke at all. i get like a foot lead on the doves btw.
@david23yang go to the range and pattern your gun, bring 3 or 4 different types of ammo and fire and see which has the least holes, also, mess around with your lead, you may not be following through enough, so just mess around with your lead to figure out what the right lead is.
@david23yang well then i guess try the improved cylinder. but you could possibly just be leading to much because the shots are sloser than you think or to little because you are shooting very far.
i have a benelli nova. i need a new choke for it for shotgun shooting matches. and advice on a new choke tube? would a 665 choke work better than a 680 or a 660 choke?
....I bought a Benelli Nova 12 ...for Doves and Quail...it points well and I can shoot it all day without getting beat up by recoil. I really liked the O/U that I looked at, like the Red Label...just kind of expensive.
no, sporting guns generally have a thicker barrel. its like with a rifle. the barrel is thicker and heavier for increased accuracy. the hunting barrel is lighter, not as accurate, but less expensive than the target barrel.
...I knew that was true for rifles, but I had never heard that about shotguns. I like the Nova, but due to it's over all length I'm getting the impression that an O/U would be quicker to pick-up a target. Maybe someday I'll get one.
Nova's come in different length's. i won mine at a gun drawing, so i got stuck with a 26 inch barrel. but, you CAN get a shorter barrel. i think you can even get a 22 inch barrel. not sure.
..Mine has a 28" barrel, but with an O/U of the same barrel length, the gun is a hell of a lot shorter. The reciever on the Benneli is long, so it can take 3 1/2" shells, but it's still a great gun.
do u have to use a choke while shooting? like will it mess up ur gun if u aint got one?

what is the best choke for my benelli nova 20gauge pump for squirrels
dawgjay1883 1 year ago
@dawgjay1883 if your shooting 20-40 yards at squirrels wich are probably stationary most of the time i would think a modified choke would be best
orangecake124 11 months ago
@dawgjay1883 you will probably want the improved cylinder or modified choke, and use a light shot load and you should be fine

@david23yang i'd recommend 1/2 choke , and experiment on some clays , see where you need to be shooting

A Nova is a good gun. I have one. Very robust and patterns well.
Put a Limbsaver on it and you will really enjoy shooting it.

...I thought about ordering one of those gel pads from a Super Nova. If I put a limb saver on it , will that alter the length of pull much?
vachief 2 years ago
Nope. NOt much at all.

JgGooden 2 years ago
THat is a very tight choke, more suited to turkey than clay games.
I would go with IM or M for your type of shooting.
manhoot 2 years ago
not clay games. my shotgun matches are a piece of paper like 25 yards away, whoever gets the most shot in the middle wins.

..Being new at the shotgun business....what is the difference between sporting guns and field guns? Is it more than barrel length?
vachief 2 years ago
Typically weight and slim forends for field guns as you will carry those where a sporting gun is more stationary.
