  • Make you think of those days, you know? Back when the History Channel still produced things about history.

  • @solodatemaru true

  • @juanlmesl I think I'll go cry in a corner.

  • @solodatemaru awww lol now a days there doing the stupid pawn shop and american pick i think is the name, i mean that's not history at all.

  • @juanlmesl Actually those are the only two shows I still watch on that channel. At least they can say it has something to do with history when compared to Ice Road Truckers, Ax Men, Swamp People... when did our History Channel turn into a reality TV network?! Also has anyone noticed that a lot of these shows are the same? They seem to have like three shows about guys in swamps fishing or hunting gators and two shows about truckers on dangerous roads...

  • "loyal"?? by loyal do you mean "slaves"?? Well if thats the case, everything in america was built by the most loyal people ever.

  • GUY-us

    not

    GAY-us

And plus they're portrayed Caesar as some power-hungry warlord. He was loved by the people after all and the senators that wanted him dead were the old and corrupt aristocracy that just didn't want to lose their power.

  • mongols? slope heads?. give me a break,no one heard if those geeks

  • Unless I am mistaken. But didn't this peter weller guy play robocop?

  • his name was Gay Ass Julius Caesar lmao @1:40

  • No, its Gaius Julius Caesar not freaking GEius lol

  • where would the world be without slaves

  • @rolodexroulette. In my opinion it all depends on which parameters we judge a civilization. Happiness? Technology? Literature? Armies? Economy? If we take into account the latter three variables (Happiness is difficult to quantify), I'd say that Roman civilization has been far above all the contemporary civilizations in the world. Same for the Western civilization throughout our whole History

  • is that robocop

  • this sux....Humanities Class brought me here...

  • By "Teutonic empire" what do you mean?

  • @acpete55118 Germany.

  • @aeromech84 You're a fucking idiot, China is the oldest continuous civilization on Earth while the Romans are extinct. The Romans couldn't even defeat the Parthians how the fuck would they take on China who has more man power and superior tech as well as strategy?

We still study Sun Tzu's art of war, it was used by Viet cong to defeat the US. So stfu and show some respect you dumb cunt.

  • @ImaginedWriter

Shut up chink weirdo. China didn't have superior tech, government, or philosophy of Rome. Denying the greatness of Rome shows your inferiority complex.

  • @FlashVirus And you acting as if Rome was greater also shows your racist ignorance. Every culture is different and great in it's own ways. One cannot argue that Mayans had a richer culture than the Chinese, Romans, or Spanish, in the same way one cannot say that the Mongols were more successful than the Romans... You're a fucking hypocrite.

  • @rolodexroulette Greatness of an empire is not measured by the amount of land they owned but by their achievements and feats. Mongols had twice as land as Rome ever had, but that didn't change the fact that Mongols drank their own piss and slept on their horses. You can say that one empire was more successful than the other, in some cases more easily and openly than in others.

  • @FlashVirus Philosophy is hard to compare in terms of superiority, but China sure had technologies that Europe dreamed of for the longest time, only later exploited those technologies beyond belief. Their government, as long as China was a dynasty, was pretty darn solid for how un-bureaucratic and political they were.

  • @ImaginedWriter the fuck? are you fucking stupid? the romans did too defeat the parthians! you like everyone else probably only heard that story about crassus's attempt.

after crassus, another roman commander named Ventidius went into parthia winning 2 major open field battles against the parthians.

by the way, the viet cong lost more than twice as many men as the U.S. did.

take your asian supremacy somewhere else moron

  • @conservatiive456 What you're talking about is the failed Parthian invasion of 42-37BC which was repelled by Mark Anthony & Ventidius, Rome retaliated by Mark Anthony invading Parthia which was a complete failure 36-33BC. Therefore the result was inconclusive not defeat. The successors of the Parthians, Sassanids did much damage to Rome even capturing emperors such as Valerian.

As for Vietnam, by your logic the Nazis defeated the Russians due to a higher kill count. You sir are the idiot.

  • @ImaginedWriter yes, mark antony did fail to invade parthia.

nevertheless, I only mentioned Ventidius because he defeated 2 major battles against the parthian horde archers on open land and won. so much for parthian superiority.

however there were many times Romans invaded and won many sieges over the parthians. donot make me go copy and paste the information just to prove to you that the parthians were not superior to the romans.

and there are many aspects to war, power in numbers do help.

  • @aeromech84 The Mongols smashed the Germanic Tuetonic order of Crusander knights. They completely overran the Teutonic empire. Had the great khan not died and the mongol generals by mongol law withdraw to the capital to elect a new khan and then the civil war that occured then all europe would have been under mongol rule not just eastern and part of central europe.

  • i wish it would focus on the engineering, not very wrong and misguided popularized historical myths

  • This is a wonderful resource for my homework project I will be sure to recommend this to everyone and not only is it a great resource but it is very facinating to know what happened soo long ago. I will watch these more often whoever wrote these Wonderful job you are very intelligent.

  • @aeromech84 Persians were Rome's fiercest adversary, You should read on the Sassanian Dynasty, and Shapur I, and Shapur II.

  • @Liquidsback You should read about how Sassanid harbored a renegade Chinese prince. The Chinese Emperor told Sassanid to hand over that prince or face total war. Sassanid Empire so called Rome's "fiercest adversary" exiled the Chinese prince which pleased the Chinese Emperor.

  • @DragonOfQin But they didn't face war, who knows what might have happened had that happened.

  • @Liquidsback Look up Battle Of Sogdiana. Some historians believe that the Hans and the Romans fought together.

  • @DragonOfQin That Scientist is basing that on hearsay though....though possible. If the Roman Empire, and Han Chinese fought in let's say Central Asia or some middle ground I would say China would win the first battle. But Rome is great at stealing it's enemies techniques and making them it's own. Look at Carthage, Rome had virtually no Navy until the First Punic War.

  • and to back up what i said look up justinian, the byzantine emperor who re-conquered most of the western half in his lifetime.

  • to clear this up, BYZANTIUM AKA THE EASTERN HALF WAS MUCH MUCH STRONGER THAN THE WESTERN HALF, the east had resources, trade, and existed hundreds of years afer the western half had collapsed.

  • @aeromech84 dude you should know the EASTERN HALF WAS THE STRONGER ONE, the west fell a thousand years before the east, get your facts straight.

  • Romans weren't circumcised masturbators like Americans.

  • @gingowitch That's because Romans were not processed through the modern school system, with all the beatings and the gangbangs of verbal abuse and public humiliation from teachers and their brainwashed parents.

Besides, A Roman could visit a sex-worker any day or even buy himself a woman at the local market. Not necessarily Though. A Roman could as well just get married; Unlike our modern bitches, the Roman ladies made loving, caring and tender wives.

There is no room for comparison.

  • @aeromech84 You mean your own falsified historical claims?! LOL! When you reply with your nonsense at least tell me where you get your sources from. You did not answer my question so I would assume you are an Euro Barbarian. Just quit replying to me for you are not worthy. Chinese do not deal with Euro barbs. Ciao!

  • @aeromech84 Mongols didnt beat the weaker half Byzantium, Mongols SACKED the weaker half Byzantium. Mongols did not continute to conquer the Euro barbs after their Kahn died.

  • @aeromech84 I also do not fabricate anything. My facts are based from Wiki while your claims are based on your fantasies.

  • @aeromech84 And you're definitely civilized to call me "little asian". ROFL! hypocrisy at its best. So are you of roman descent or are you an Euro barbarian?

  • @aeromech84 You need to read more about Mongols retard. Mongols didn't conquer Western Europe because their Great Kahn died NOT BECAUSE THEY LOST TO WESTERN EURO BARBS you stupid shit. Their Great Kahn died in Asia so they had to withdraw.

  • @aeromech84 YOU DONT EVEN KNOW ANY OF THOSE THINGS EITHER RETARD. LOL! You're such a retarded hypocrite. What is it to me? Basically I just want to know are you Roman by descent.

  • @aeromech84 Hey let me ask you are you Italian by descent?

  • @aeromech84 Wait so are we talking about Rome or Macedonia here? Didn't the Ottomans aka the Turks destroy Greece? LOL!

  • @aeromech84 You said Mongols did not defeat Bzyantium YET MONGOLS SACKED eastern Roman empire. Mongols with commanders such as Genghis, Ogedai, Tamerlane, etc would defeat tiny Roman army. It is you who live in fantasies little white boy aka Euro barb. Who praises Gauls and Vandals? LOL! Only you a retard.

  • @aeromech84 Romans couldnt handle Parthia. So Romans wont handle Mongols. Romans couldnt even handle Euro barbarians that colored themelves in paint! LOL! Arminius a barbarian slaughtered the overrated Roman army. Ciao loser!

  • @aeromech84 No you have lost. You just shrug off Mongol achievements and call them "claims". W/e. 20,000 Romans died 10,000 became prisoners and another 10,000 romans ran away from Parthia. Some brave warriors. Just remember where gunpowder came from little boy.

  • @aeromech84 What were my false claims? 35,000 legionaires + 20,000 Roman calvary was wiped out by Parthia's 9000 horse archers and 1000 Cataphracts. Rome army was most certainly overrated.

  • @DragonOfQin See Campaigns of Trajan. Trajan brought Parthia to it's knees, Caesar was going to avenge Crassus but was assassinated.

  • @aeromech84 Battle of Carrhae does not ring a bell to you huh? It was one of the first battles between Persia and Rome AND ROME LOST!

  • @aeromech84 You don't know anything about Asian history. Here is who Mongols fought:Jin Dynasty Dali Kingdom Western Xia Song Dynasty Manchuria Khwarizmian Empire Persia Kievian Rus Volga Bulgaria Goryeo Poland Hungary Croatia Bulgaria Serbia Byzantium Kamakura Shogunate Vietnam Champa Myanmar Java Anatolia Mesopotamia Mamluk Sultanate Sultanate of Rûm I know more Asian/World history than you.
  • @aeromech84 Battle of Carrhae Rome focussed their sights on Persia after conquering the Euro barbarians. They lost badly. Genghis Kahn didn't really have to focus on anything, he just destroyed civilizations.

  • @aeromech84 Mongols fought in Europe. Mongols fought in Asia. Mongols fought in Central Asia. Mongols fought in Africa. Mongols fought everywhere son. The Hans fought the Huns who would eventually become a nightmare for Romans. Remember the Huns? The Scourge of God as Romans called them?!

  • @DragonOfQin The Huns were crushing Rome's Limitenai armies, because Rome's Comitaneses (Main Legions) were fighting The Goths, Sassanians, and Vandals.

  • @aeromech84 Chinese also brought civilization wherever they went. Japan, Korea, South East Asia, Mongols, etc. all adopted Chinese culture in some way or another. You have no examples to support your claims. Romans LOST to PERSIANS in the battle of Carrhae. MONGOLS DID NOT LOSE AT ALL TO PERSIANS. There is reason why modern soldiers carry a gun. No one carries a shield and sword anymore.

  • @aeromech84 Romans did not conquer Persia. Mongols did. Mongols could have conquered Europe(Infact Mongols already conquered Russia) if their Kahn did not die. Germans/Britons/Gauls were barbarians. They had no civilization. So what civilization did Rome conquer besides Egypt and Carthigian? Mongols conquered Persia, Korea, China, Russia, India, etc.

  • @DragonOfQin They wouldn't reach western europe, even if there Kahn didn't die. The Climate of Western Europe is like a colder version of Vietnam, and we know what happened to the Mongols there.

  • @Liquidsback VIETNAM? LOL! Mongols couldn't take out Vietnam because their navy sucked. Also mongols were under incompetant Kublai Kahn who was not a great military leader like his father. Genghis conquered half of China before he died without aid. Kublai conquered the last half because of a renegade Chinese General. Kublai pales in comparison to Genghis. Remember the black death? Thats from Mongols too.

  • @DragonOfQin Vietnam, like Western Europe was full of damp forests. A terrible environment for a Horse Archer based army. Kublai is also Genghis' Grandson, and you're right he was incompetent he only conquered the remaining Song Dynasty.

  • @Liquidsback Kublai's invasion of Vietnam wasn't successful because of their horse archers but because of the sea spikes placed underneath the docks by the Viets. Also Ming Dynasty under YongLe who fought Mongols all his life and adopted mongol calvary warfare CONQUERED ALL OF VIETNAM. So what is that horse archer sucked on Vietnam BS?

  • @DragonOfQin Only for twenty years the Ming Ruled until Tran Ngoi rebelled.....Also the Ming had more of a gunpowder based army by then.

  • @Liquidsback Yes Ming had a gunpowder based army but YongLe favored calvary because he fought Mongols with it and saw the importance of calvary warfare. He was the one that invaded Vietnam.

  • @DragonOfQin Yes however Gunpowder was still more dominant in battle by the Ming Dynasty, then in the Song.

  • @aeromech84 When did Rome defeat China? Rome lost to Persians in the Battle of Carrhae. Rome could barely handle the Huns which were small in comparison to the Mongols. Look up Mongol empire and you'll see how powerful they were. They swiped Persia and massacred persians while Rome barely handled Persia. Did Rome conquer Persia? No. Did Mongols conquer Persia? Yes + the whole middle east.

  • @DragonOfQin Except Saudi Arabia, and Egypt when the Mamelukes handed there Ass to them.

  • @aeromech84 1) At least read about Chinese history don't base your facts and assumptions on stereotypes. 2) to ans your Q: historical records and archeological evidence. There was a article that I read a month ago I'll try to find it for you. 3) Mongols didnt fight like men. Mongols rode on horses ran backwards and shot arrows at Europeans. Do soldiers NOW FIGHT LIKE MEN? Why carry a gun and shoot? Why not carry swords and shields and fight like men?!

  • @aeromech84 LOL! Your ignorance knows no bounds. Average height of Romans was 5'4. Julius Caesar was 5'6 and was considered tall. Romans described Germanians as tall barbarians. German average height was 5'7. A Terracotta soldier's height avg from 5'8-6 so how were Chinese soldiers short? Stupid ass.

  • @DragonOfQin The average Roman was 5.7, the Average man in China was at that time 5.5.

  • @Liquidsback Bullshit. Average height of Chinese in rural areas is 5.6 so how were they 5'5? Terracotta Army average about 5'8. Ming Dynasty people average about 5'7. I really need to know where you got your source from. I went to Rome and I clearly remembered they said Romans were 5'4 -5'5. I researched it on the web and Caesar was 5'6 and Caesar was considered tall. Also the lorica segmenta was meant to deflect axes which meant that Romans were short compared to Germans who were 5'7-5'9.

  • @DragonOfQin Vegetius says there was a height MINIMUM of 5.7, in order to be in the legion. As for Caesar, well no record of his height survives but he is described as tall. Not to mention there weren't just Italian Legions, there were Gallic legions, Germanic Legions, Syrian Legions, Spanish Legions, Hellenic Legions, African Legions, Thracian Legions, and so fourth. Don't bother telling me Germans, and Celts are short either cause that would be the biggest lie I've seen on here.

  • @Liquidsback What the fuck? Romans were short Germans were tall.

  • @DragonOfQin But the title Roman didn't apply to just Italians.

  • @Liquidsback Real Romans were from Rome. Vandals and Visigoths also inhabited Italy but they weren't in Rome. We haven't heard of a Non-Roman Emperor.

  • @DragonOfQin Trajan was Spanish

  • @Liquidsback was Trajan Spanish by blood? or Roman borned in Spain?

  • @DragonOfQin By blood, and Roman descendants. But many Senators looked down on him, when he was made the successor of Nerva for not being Italian.

  • @DragonOfQin Also Julian the Apostate was Thracian, Septimus Severus was Libyan, there is also the Illyrian Emperors.

  • @Liquidsback they were not absolute emperors.

  • @DragonOfQin They all ruled the Roman Empire as a whole, they probably had more power then Augustus.

  • @Liquidsback So Rome like China had foreigners ruling over the empire?

  • @DragonOfQin In a way but Rome just conquered so many ethnic groups. Romans were a small ethnic group, but eventually all (free) people in the empire were given citizenship. Unlike original Romans, China is mostly one ethnic group (The Han) who were much larger in population (Ethnically) then the Original Romans. However The Roman Empire, and The Han Dynasty were equal in population.

  • @Liquidsback Han identity was formed during Han dynasty. before that China had many ethnic groups as well but overtime those groups formed Han. Even most Manchurians call themselves Han in Modern Day China. When China's One Child Policy went into practice many Manchus who called themselves Han reidentified themselves as Manchus to escape the One Child Policy act.

  • @DragonOfQin AAAAHHH those wacky Manchus. No in reality, one could say that the Roman Empire was the Han Dynasty to Europe. One could also say that the Han Dynasty was the Roman Empire to China. Though not as frequently referred as

China with the Han, many Europeans consider themselves to be the descendants of Rome. Both declined in similar ways, both rose to their zenith around the same time. Yet China is still around, but I personally believe that the Roman Empire is still around in Europe.

  • @Liquidsback Germans are very proud of their own history as barbarians. They talk about how they have never been conquered by Romans, Armenius, etc. So I dont think the Roman Empire is still around in Europe.Rome collapsed. After Rome was gone, Europe plunged into the dark ages only to be revived by the scientific revo and the renaissance. So Rome is gone but Roman influence is still seen today such as architecture. Ever heard of the term Latin is a dying language?

  • @DragonOfQin They never talk about Emperor Tiberius' brother in law avenging them one year later and taking the name Germanicus Caesar either. Also many regions in the world use the Roman government of a Republic. I mean the basis of the Greek States, Hellenistic Empire and Roman Empire as Western Civilization. All of Europe uses the Latin or Greek Alphabet, In medieval times the Eastern Roman Empire was still around.

  • @Liquidsback The world world uses Greek letters in math. Math numbers are Indian so the world is Indian? No its just the influence. English is English. Latin is Latin. Europe does not speak Latin anymore or Vulgar Latin for that matter.

  • @DragonOfQin I speak English, French, Italian, Spanish, and Latin. You'd be surprised at how similar they all really are. Also let's not forget the Roman Catholic Church, the uses of the republic, and back to the numbers thing yeah the world is Indian as well (Buddhism), and China. I'm saying that the Babylonian alphabet isn't used anymore, or Egyptian hieroglyphs but the Latin and Greek alphabets are. The Chinese system of writing is still around though it is being simplified.

  • @Liquidsback

Nonne dicis tu sincere linguam Latinam? Si sic, tunc nimirum eruditionis habes. Possum te rogare ubi disceres eam...Romae fortasse? Audiveram homines multos volle iter facere saepe ad Vaticanam Urbem ut doceantur a pontificibus Catholicis. Solum ibi potest aliquis bene disci.

  • @AVIATIO Donec non discit in Roma, didici ex schola catholica ut parvulus. Si non sum ipse discere Romae aemulam

  • @Liquidsback I also know bit of Koine Greek, but my keyboard doesn't have the Greek Alphabet....

  • @DragonOfQin i completely support your post, but with one exeption: i´m proud of rome aswell (maybe because the limes border is only few kilometers north from my home). germanic and celtic tribes are also very important for me, but with regard to culture and language the romans are the guys who shaped germany.

  • @888HamilkarBarkas888 I read some posts by Germans on history forums and they are proud of Arminius. Germans brag about how they never got conquered by Romans. I do agree that Romans influenced germany to a great extent. Ironic how the Greeks and the Italians(supposedly Roman descendants) are deemed lazy by Germans in the 21st century.

  • @888HamilkarBarkas888 Hey they didn't mind calling themselves Imperial Holy Roman Empire.

  • @888HamilkarBarkas888 On the contrary, out of all the places around Mediterranean that Rome influenced culturally, including linguistically, Germany was influenced very little by them. Rome never had much control of Germanic territories and German language itself derives from Scandinavia, whereas Italian, Spanish and French derive from Latin. However, in the dark ages, Germany did indeed try to re-create what Rome was, but it was rather forced and un-successful.

  • @Liquidsback Mongols are also another group assimilated into Chinese culture yet they don't claim to be descendants of the Chinese because they have their own pride which was formed by their Kahn Genghis. Their pride is very similar to Germans. So Europeans should be proud of who they are. I am pretty sure Brits admit that they were civilized by the Romans.

  • @Liquidsback Vegetius said Romans were 5'10 but he was using Roman measurement. So in modern terms Romans were 5'7 BUT 5'7 WAS STILL OVER THE AVERAGE HEIGHT OF ROMANS DURING ROMAN TIMES FROM SKELETAL ARCHAELOGICAL EVIDENCE. The skeletons of ancient Romans don't seem to tell us that Romans were 5'7. Emperor Valentinian then lowered the height to 5'7 Roman measurement which is 5'5 in modern times.

  • @ 7:41 : The producers of this chapter really blew it big time. "......the territory North of the Rhine...". As if the Rhine River ran West to East OR East to West. As far as I'm concern, the Rhine runs from North to South.

  • what year was this documentary CD made

    anyony know?

  • thumps for history channel

  • China > Rome.

  • @DragonOfQin

china is still to this day, an overwhelmingly agrarian based society. prior to Mao's cultural reforms it was essentially living in antiquity still.

China might have been around for long, but it stagnated and really hasnt accomplished all that much.

  • @zazenzach Because of the Qing Reforms which prevented Chinese from innovation and progression. Qing Emperors believed that technology and science threatened their rule. Also Chinese scholars delved too much into literature especially Confucius who was another culprit for Chinese stagnation. Confucius emphasized order but did not emphasize progression. That is why Mao started the cultural revo to wipe out Confucius philisophy. Last reason is Chinese arrogance but no room to explain.

  • @DragonOfQin Rome owns china mate, the glory of Rome was much higher than chinas

  • @WolveZGuY What glory when Rome got raped by Visigoths and eventually collapsed. China didn't collapse until the descendants of the barbarians of Rome came half away across the world and half-imperialized China.

  • @DragonOfQin The Romans left a much bigger mark on the world then China did

  • @WolveZGuY Rome influenced Europe. China influenced Asia. Rome was then destroyed by the Euro barbs. Euro barbs descended into the Dark Ages only to be saved by the scientific revo and renaissance. To be fair, the British left the biggest mark on the world. Rome fell while China stagnated.

  • @DragonOfQin Rome was economicly and militarly superior than the chineese. The Chinesse got owed by a bunch of mongolians

  • @WolveZGuY Rome got owned by Visigoths LOL! China got owned by Mongolians! And you know nothing about China. Under Tang, Song, Ming and Qing China was superior in economics but weak militarily. Like I said before, Rome collapsed, China did not.

  • @DragonOfQin Rome as a single empire lasted longer than every chineese dynasty to date period, plus if could the byzantine empire then its 700bc to 1430 ad , thats over 2000 years. Plus the Roman Leigons in 40BC were more advanced than european militarys during the crusades 12th century

  • @WolveZGuY Byzantine Empire was not Roman! Does not matter Rome collapsed. Rome as a civilization was gone! Talk about 2000 years Chinese dynasties began 2000BC-1912AD. Last statement was weak. China in 500BC already had crossbows that would not be seen in Europe until medieval times.

  • @DragonOfQin China got its mighty ass owned by britain in the opium wars, not to mention the boxer rebellion. Face it western civilizations have always been better(minus persia)

  • @WolveZGuY West is not one. British does not equal Rome. China > Rome. And Brit only won because they smuggled opium into China and made half of Chinese population high. If I shove a needle full of cocaine in your arm you'll be addicted and I can say I beat the crap out of you but in truth I cheated.

  • @DragonOfQin The Roman empire was the greatest in history PERIOD!

  • @WolveZGuY China > Rome thus China IS the greatest in the UNIVERSE! Period.

  • @DragonOfQin Considering its 3rd world and overpopulated LMFAO i DOUBT IT LMAOOO

  • @WolveZGuY Where is Rome? Oh yeah it collapsed a long time ago.....

  • @WolveZGuY hey retard this documentary has one on China. I suggest you look it up punk.

  • @DragonOfQin you was getting ur ass owned by japan in ww2 lmao, you a typical chinky moran hahahahhaha wing wah tang jacki chan

  • @WolveZGuY We won the war dumbass! Typical barbarian. Don't talk you piece of shit.

  • @DragonOfQin hahahahhahahah BOXER REBELION CHINKY HAHAHAHAHHA OPEN YOUR EYES HAHAHAH OH SHIZZLE YOU CANT

  • @WolveZGuY Barbarians always misbehave.

  • @DragonOfQin no because there are taugth to behave like that

  • A perfect historical data, many architectures and interesting facts.

Also, the HBO TV's channel has presented a serial about Ancient Rome of times of transition from republic to the crash. Fine possibility to interest in history of simple Americans, and Italians at the same time.

  • @klinsa12 thats why the senate broke apart in star wars :0
