hope this is working out well for you. I am an avid cyclist who would gladly ride his bike to work- if I had a job :P haha. I've been putting in lots of applications, hope something comes up. Then maybe I can get some cash to get a *real* bike and not that single gear jalopy I've been riding ;-]
It's a great fitness tool, it's fun, and a money saver, what's not to like. As long as you're safe.
I don't even own a car so I'm set! Hooray for being poor LOL! Man, these gas prices are making everyone feel the burn - In their wallets and in their legs, too. Go for it!
Good for you... I used to commute by bike in my younger days. I lived in Boston for 5 years and commuted to and from work (only about 2 1/2 miles each way) the entire time I lived there, year round. If the snow was deep, I just walked :-) Now I have about a 30 mile commute, almost all of it on an interstate :-(
welcome to the club mikey. screw the gas man. I take the T or ride my bike at least 4 days a week into Boston. get a helmet and a couple of those flashing LED lights for front and back. PLUS you get exercise!!!!
Nice! I have been thinking of moving lately. The three hours I spend commuting each day has been killing me. Especially with the traffic and gas prices where they are (my car runs premium). Hopefully I will be able to find a place close enough to get riding to work and back each day.
stick it to the gas man until they outlaw bike riding so we have to buy gas. or make us wear helmets on a bicycle. screw that. ill wear one on a motorcycle but not on a bicycle.
My girlfriend and I are avid cyclists but I have never commuted to work. I think its great that you are riding to work now that the weather is nicer. Make sure you give your bike a good once over with some bike specific lubricant. Check all of your brakes, tires and shifters to make sure they are tight and lubricated. Thanks for sharing Mikey!
@edgedweapon88 Thanks man, do you know of any good tutorial videos on how to tune up your bike? I don't really know much about it, and I definitely want to make sure it's in good working order before I start riding it again...any help is much appreciated!
Cool, I just got back from early morning riding myself. Bikes are great, they are a lot easier on my joints than running. And for anyone who works at a desk, a bike will keep your legs from atrophying, especially for men, lots of men with big arms and little legs lol, avoid that! ~Israel
@WeAllJuggleKnives I hear ya man, I am all upper body. I work my legs just as much as my upper body, but I can't seem to get them much bigger. I definitely feel the burn on the bike though! Good stuff! Thanks for watching man.
I began riding the 5.5 miles to work several years ago after Katrina. Weight is even more of an issue when you bike to work, but I still carry my concealed weapon. To avoid traffic, I leave the house by 6 am. In the evening, I take back roads which avoid traffic, but add to the length of the trip. I feel a lot better on the days that I ride!
@ima4ster I agree, I do feel great when I ride to work. It makes me feel like I'm doing something good for myself and I'm saving money on gas/wear and tear on my car. You are right, weight is a big issue when riding. I usually will carry a backpack of some sort and that can really throw off your weight distribution! I'm like you, I try to avoid the traffic as much as possible, people are usually really in a hurry in the morning and don't have much regard for bikers.
Stick it to em. We are shelling out around $7.40 here in Japan for a gallon. I am a rider too. Specialized Sworks Roubaix for dedicated road, intense tracer for pure off road and a Klein Attitude with slicks for my city rocket. Cycling is the way to do it.
Right on!!!! I commute too! Well only half way... One way is 30kms and after a 12 hour shift and cycling 60kms I just feel tired, so I cut it in half. I drive halfway and park my car at a walmart and ride to work 15kms which is much nicer! Ya last year gas was 80ish cents a litre and now it's 1.34..... ridiculous! I have a Trek 1500 road bike and a Trek 3700 MTB..... If I lived closer to work I would sell my car in a heart beat! Such a wast of money! Glad to know you're a commuter too!
@katabunga Yeah that would be really tough after a 12 hour shift! I just work 8 hours and I'm in an office most of the day so I'm usually ready to get out there and ride. Of course I don't have so far to ride either! My ride home is mostly downhill so I like to see how fast I can make it home. It's fun stuff! Thanks for your comment!
