the issue is INCOME tax. The problem is that by taxing multiple exchanges of money it punishes certain types of industry and limits free exchange of capital. Add on to that the issue of logistics (the IRS). The IRS became a huge organization that not only drains further government funds but clogs courts, bogs down employers and creates uncertainty with small jobs. You never know for sure what money the IRS categorizes as what.

Also, multiple taxes just obscure how much they really take.
