Haha least he apologized for swearing!. I saw Paul Bonhomme taxi'ing past my plane during my lesson at Jandakot Airport here in Perth a week before the 2010 Red Bull Air Race not long ago. Managed to catch it on film too haha!
first, more than any other Red Bull video I've seen so far , that gave a truer sense of the speed and maneuvering that goes on in an air race.
Secondly, I have a more respect for a professional who can recognize that he's having an off day. He would have been truly a "F***king wanker" if he didn't admit he'd screwed up.
Not required in any aerobatic aircraft, just in any aircraft where "aerobatic" maneuvers are flown as defined by pitch +/- 30degrees and bank +/- 60degrees. Even in a Cessna 172 you need to where a chute if you are in the utility category and plan on doing spins.
As a glider pilot, one of the first things we get taught is how to bail out safely. You don't need an ejection seat, although one will certainly expeditite the process.
There is no "one" spoken there... It is just him grunting as a result of tensing his abdomen harder to control the blood flowing away from his upper body while pulling harder.
i think its hillarious, these guys, he's appologising 'flying like a bloody idiot' meanwhile he's upsidown or on an edge. Nothing out of the ordinary

Unless those spins are for training with a CFI.

Stupid question: If it is a parachute, why is that necessary if they doesnt have ejection seat :S?
BlastedNation 2 years ago
You can still bail out of an aircraft without an ejection seat. A 5 point harness can be quickly undone, along with a hinge latch on the canopy.
Ejection seats themselves are dangerous. I'd rather take my chances jumping.
stevethepilot 2 years ago
Actually in most aircraft they have a canopy release, which rather than the canopy opening, it just comes off, standard in alot of civvy aircraft.

yeah because it would be nice to not have a meeting with the vertical stab.

is that a parachute on his back?

no its his packed lunch i think
grako76 2 years ago 8
Most likely a vest that he doesn't drown. A parachute won't help if you're a few meters above the ground :-)
Assaiki 2 years ago
no it is a parachute
they are required for any aerobatic type aircraft by law
it is not for a race-water crash, but rather for the uncertain types of disasters that could occur after take off and before/after the race itself
better safe than sorry
