I cant figure out how to get my old doorknob off, the handle is too wide to get a screw driver to the one's keeping the two half's in place any advice.
Tnx! You're a life saver! At first I wasn't sure how to put the thingy in the square part, and all the crews, but I did it! (sorry for my accent, I'm dutch ;) )
@dynocapone At first I wasn't sure how to put the thingy in the round part, but after a while you can get the trick. Just be sure not to stick the thingy in the bad round part!!
i had to chisel a little area out of my door for the plate so i was glad to see this video before I freaked out about it not fitting. do i tyourself is not my kind of thing but this was pretty easy to do.
@danorambo - Check if there is a small rectangular hole on one of the door knobs. If there is, use a small screwdriver and poke it into this hole to release the door knob from the post.
Usually there is a small gap underneath the knob that you can insert a small common screwdriver into. With a quick twist you can pop off the door knob cover to get to the screws.
What if the door is shut and the doorknob wont turn? I took the knob apart but the deadbolt is still inside the latch hole and wont come out even after prying it with a screwdriver. .
The latch assembly on my old doorknob was stuck in there pretty badly. just using a screwdriver didn't do it, though it did loosen it up just the tiniest bit. I had to hammer a screwdriver along the edges to loosen it some more, and then when it's stuck out a little more, it could finally be pried out with a wrench.

What if there is a cover between the knob and the door preventing access to the screws, this is quite annoying.

Sometimes the door knob can stick due to paint. You may need to hit it with the palm of your hand to loosen it.
