I did the same thing,I never beat this boss I wonder what I was doing wrong?DO you need to use a specific weapon or something?.I always thought my copy of this game was defective.Anyway this game rules.
what a game it made people shut up back in 95 about my genesis, they where always like snes was better this and that,i said they're both good once i popped this up they where like WTf 3d like this we've never seen that.
So THAT'S how you beat it! I place this final boss amongst my most impossible, yet very simple when you think about it, situations to pass. (Honorable mention: barrels from Sonic 3 and the reset button on X-Men)

look at the graphics, and the gameplay lol this was added in 2007 as well how sad why the hell do people in this day and age find old games so amazing
i also have absolutely no clue how people these days i mean its 2008 lol use punctuation or give a crap about capital letters any sense in grammar is useless lol its 2008 why bother -.-
Seriously, this game is a classic and you are obviously clueless.
It might be too difficult to accurately explain to you how people can enjoy classic games that brought innovation and fun to their erras.. however consider this, years from now, perhaps soon, games and systems will be developed that will offer visuals that far, and I do mean FAR surprise that of those today (It's inevitable, technology always grows) So when those days come, think back to the games you enjoy TODAY, and when someone asks "Why do you like these old games?" You'll understand. :)
OMFG!! That is the final boss of Silpheed: the lost planet! He survived from THIS one?! Impossible!! I thought that the pilot named Aubirdforce had killed him!!
Perhaps they just built up another? When the first death star was destroyed, they made a second one, so no reason not build this big ship again in lost planet.
Judging by the fact that an alien parasite emerges from the Gloire after you destroy it, I'd say that the alien parasite is manipulating the Gloire's remains.
But Silpheed: The Lost Planet is just a remake of this. So, this boss's appearence in that game doesn't count. Also, the ending is the same. In both versions, it has one of the pilots saying, "Gentlemen, it's time to go home!" But in Silpheed: The Lost Planet, there is an extra speech before the end credits. Also, the ending theme is the same.
Dang... I tried over 50 times to beat the last boss... sorry... maybe over 100... and even pulled off that stunt and he'd still blow me up in the end by running out of time and charging his lazor...
Beautifull game! The 360º version, Project Silpheed, is very beautifull also, but I think it's a bit too hard for my skills. lol
Tell me something... This MegaCD 3D graphics... Are they realtime 3D or just a well made parallax effect? That's because the movement of the Boss seems very manageable and I don't think SegaCD could pull 3D graphics off. Anyways... Beautifull, impressive. Great game, great video. =D
The game used a system similar to arcade classics that had "interactive" CGI enviroments. That is the say the background and several of the game's boss fights were actually streaming video, like the Gloire here. The player's ship, enemies, mid-bosses and the like are game models that're designed to move amidst the video feed. It's truly astonishing work.
No matter what I do, It always shoots a Super Final Beam that kills me. I just don't get it.

@ZAPPSOFT That happened with my copy all the time too. Later I read somewhere it could be a glitched copy.

@HerbalAbuse Beats me, why do people listen to old music, watch old movies or read old books? Idiot.

Gloire's always the boss of every Silpheed game! This, the old version, and Silpheed: The Lost Planet. Why?

This is not exactly the first series to use a bad guy who makes returns.

This has to be one of my all time favorite video games. I hope to be able to make SHMUPs like this someday.
