oh my GOD. those arent high tension snares are they? my god and listen how much they are cranked! I can imagine how badly the shells are by the end of the season.
wow - what a find - i was the dude who got cut off the quad line midseason and wound up playing contra - there's a skill i'll never use again! some of these parts still sound familiar tho!
I believe Garfield(read as Cadets) marched them back in the 85ish time frame. I knwo they used them under the Hannum regime. In fact Hannum talks about using two 6" drums to get a more accurate bongo sound in his Championship Concepts for Marching Percussion book(the BIG book not the student workbook).
Wow thanks to whoever posted this. What a great drumline. It's funny to see Tinkel and Rudy so young. That week was great, we stayed at Barneveld Wisconsin and the whole town used to turn out every day to watch us rehearse so we always had a cheering crowd.
I'm just saying with my taste for the modern drums, these drums for being so old sound so great. Plenty of high school bands and even a lot of drum corps can't tune quads that well, even with the brand new quads that are designed to sound so great. I hate most 80s and early 90s quad sounds. These sound fantastic.
because the heads are reefed so high they choke off the shells...so you don't even need the shells...these drums actually have a tone not just the overtones of modern tenor tuning.
Typical youtube comment:
So fake, only one guy is really playing, you can hear it! The other guys don't have the volume turned up on their drum sets.

I was in that snare line for the first two camps then wussed out. As Rudy said, flew the coop. Such a dumb idea that was.

I remember marching in 1992, at Madison it was colder than expected seeing that the season kept us mostly in the south.

nice to see the older videos. I'd love to see the 92-94 shows. I haven't seen videos of them in forever.

Why do a lot of quadlines' drums sound like crap these days when these drums could sound fantastic?
c2dinc 3 years ago
These drums are ludwigs with maple shells, I believe.
Don't know why you think a lot of quads sound like crap tho.
