@ProtegeTuype There were many cars that I agree shouldve been clunked but there were many modern cars with low milage & immaculate condition that should not of been clunked. Cars that well exceeded the MPG requirement
@Jakeman2164 Commander is only a midsized. I do not love it any less. It is nice to have every option available on the face of the earth. Plus I changed insurance company's and I am saving enough cash with that to make up on the poor MPG's. I am not one to much care about MPG's unless it is my commuter. I have my Mercury for that. It gets 25MPG.
@Jakeman2164 Cant go off of the computers of Jeeps. They count down steady at stop lights. On highway it is getting around 18. Just cant trust that damn computer.
The 4.0s are powerful for what they are and fuel efficient too. I've owned 3 Jeeps with that engine: a '93 XJ Cherokee Country 4DR, a '96 ZJ Grand Cherokee Laredo, and a '99 WJ Grand Cherokee Laredo. The 2 others Jeeps I've owned have had the 4.7 V8: an '02 WJ Grand Cherokee Laredo and an '05 WK Grand Cherokee Laredo. You should do a 1993-1998 Grand Cherokee, then you'll have all the generations of Grand Cherokee (:
I have the same vehicle model/yr there are no vanity lights on the visors and the back seat headrest fold down at 7:53 press the black botton up and press the headrest down. Weak hood and cargo lid supports are a common issues on these vehicles. The relay is the issue you were refering too also the thermostat is a big issue. they're almost guaranteed to fail and usually have to be replaced every few yrs. And last the 4.0 should be avoided, they are woefully underpowererd in 4wd's and unreliable.
@640101vh The 4.0 has been MORE than great to me. Ran fine up tell it was crashed. Complane about other things like the 4 speed. The 4.0 was faster than the new 3.7 and last LONGER!
@GmTruckCarLove I have a totally opposite view of the 4.0 I think it is a poc, did you have a 99-04 JGC? Wrist Pin on mine went out at 96k miles, never had a vehicle were the engine went out before. We dad use to work at a Chrysler dealership and talked with other people that had to replace these engines. I also have a Chevy 4.3 with 211k and it has more power is quieter and smoother then the Jeep with its rebuilt 4.0.There are a lot of people that have issues with these engines trust me.
I don't think I've seen a car rock from side to side so hard! I always thought the cars that did that had hugely powerful engines, guess that's not the case lol.
Nice Jeep, i just LOVE Grand Cherokees, their nice luxury SUV's not too over done so they still be great off road. Those old 4.0s are awesome engines also i have seen many, many Jeeps with well over 200k. I would LOVE to have the new SRT8 with the 6.4 Hemi, that's one of the nicest SUV's IMO.
@Intechdude300 The problem with the engine fan is a relay that goes out and is under the bumper. I rember my Mom and Dad's old one and it went out so for 2 years we had a light switch on the grill. How many time people would turn that off is unreal! It has over heated MANY times to the point that it is knocking from thin oil. Just shows the iron clad reliability of the 4.0L. You could have revved it more; they just sound bad but its not going to blow, OH and the head rests you pull that (Cont.)
@Intechdude300 You pull that black tab and they fold down. You don't have to take them off at all. Very good Jeeps other than the seals on the back doors, the window regulators and that relay. Also they have a problem with the A/C fan messing up what vents to blow on. Over all they are one of the few AMAZING cars that Crapler has made. BTW could you PLEASE find a Commander Limited to review.
@NICKLADD Kind of stupid question here but how do you engage 4WD on a 04 Grand Cherokee...I can't find out how for the life of me....I thought you'd know...
@ustasanick the transfer case shifter either looks like a normal stick shift on the floor, or a dial near the steering wheel that says 2hi 4lo and 4hi
@hggf25 They're not the most reliable engines either, If you want a reliable Jeep go for an older Cherokee(not Grand) with the pre-99 4.0 or older Grand Cherokee with the 5.2 or 5.9 V8 they were fairly reliable. I own one a 2001 and know ppl they own them, neither the V8 or I6 in the 1999-2004 model are reliable.
@640101vh The I6 is almost the same between the years. I was sitting in a popeyes chicken line and it was taking them forever to cook the chicken (About 30 MIN, but I wanted the CHICKEN! lol) and someone turned off my cooling fan (My dad was too lazy to take off the bumper so my dad put a light switch on it. lol) and it was behond the red and it was cladering like crazy. Hurt nothing in the engine at all! Head was fine along with gaskit. Just had to let it cool. I have had that happen more than1
@hggf25 The 4.0 is a great engine. I have never herd anyone bitch about them tell this video. Read some of my other coments. I don't feel like telling what happend to mine. The 4.0 is such an old but trusty engine. Just thrashy.

Intech, you mention the cooling fan, it is indeed the relay that goes bad

Yoy don't have to remove the rear head rests to fold the seats...they fold when you push the black button...this guy is an idiot.

I like how you sort of critique and go in depth on the vehicle rather than just zoom right through it like some other people do.

the 1999-2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee was assembled in
Detroit, Michigan, United States
Graz, Austria
Beijing, China
Córdoba, Argentina (until 2001)

@bigcrowfly: And they changed the ignition system from a distributor to coil pack. I would rather have coil packs as they're more reliable.

A 5 Speed Auto in a 2001 Jeep (V8)?...that must be so reliable.

@form109 The 4 speed has many problems. The 5 speed if I am correct is made by Mercadies. Much better tranny.

and i thought the GM "BONG" chime was annoying.

2WD what a shame. Love the 4.0 liter very reliable.

Like most Chrysler cars of this era, most of these I encounter always have spuddering, creaking, or clunking sounds coming from the engine.
2Kriss2Kross 5 months ago
@2Kriss2Kross Engines don't "Creak" The 4.0 is not something you can argue with. Bitch about the tranny not the engine. Okay?

If somebody is gonna buy a GC of this gen, I would defenitely suggest the 4.7L V8, and Limited model. The Limited's were quite loaded with options
talldude123 5 months ago
i always thought the that the inline 6 engines in the GC are unique sounding but they aren't the most reliable
