  • great sound, you must have listened to getz a lot,as it comes out in your playing. Lets have more of you on you tube. Graham

  • God bless you! Tom lives in your sax. Thank you!

  • My favourite song on my favourite instrument! Absolutely fabulous!

  • Sexy Sound!!! nice!

  • Matt, I've been playing for 30 years. Until very recently I didn't know who you were, but I've quickly gained an unbelievable amount of respect for you. Your style and tone are sweet. Having played this tune over and over again, you;ve got me reconsidering my style. I'm not quite a speed demon, but tend to put more notes into my solos. Dizzy Gillespie once told me years ago "I've learned which notes are not important." You've already learned that lesson. It's a pleasure to hear you.

  • Well played!

  • nice...!

  • Lovely Stuff ! andI thank you for it ..What sax do you play please ?

I am one of the many who regetfully sold their mk 6 in the 70s !

    what a fool eh !

  • Good!!setup??

  • I think it's time for a CD or DVD. :O)

  • Matt, What kind of mouthpiece and reed set up do you use? Also, when you record, what type of michrophone set up do you have? Thanks....

  • se escucha muy bien

  • Where did you get the backing music? I am currently trying to learn this tune. I am having difficulty soloing over the melody and especialy the bridge. Any help Matt?

  • Hi Matthew, I often check in to listen to your playing as a source of inspiration. I've been playing alto for 2 years and when I forget just how beautiful a saxophone can sound I tune in to your clips. I sometimes think I've mastered a piece and then I listen to you and see I have still a long way to go. Please keep posting.

  • Another tune that I enjoyed learning is black orpheus, great harmonic changes and a geourgeous melody

  • I really really enjoy your bossa tunes.

    Cheers,

    Kim

  • Maravilha a sonoridade e a execução desse instrumentista magnifico. Bossa nova de alta qualidade. Congratulation

  • felicidades, regards from Spain.

  • Are the real books with the CDs on Amazion in Bb

  • Matthew the real books on amazon I have found a set of 3 with the cds Are the books in Bb or C

  • I like you sound and unique style very much! I can tell that you have developed your very own style, which is very important!

Your video channel is a regular guest on my monitor, and I play it sometimes just as background music to my enjoyment, and sometimes as something to play along with with my tenor sax.

    Keep up the good work!

  • thanks for sharing again. love your tone. very delicate handling of this piece.

  • My favorite Jobim tune to play ! An Indian jazz fan told me he liked Ella Fitzgerald version after I performed it in 1982 at a festival! I found it on CD 'Ella Abraca Jobim' recorded in 1982 I think and she tears it up along with the rest of his tunes. Dexter Gordon said knowing the lyric helped him interpret tunes. This guy in this video played it perfect! - Fc

  • Hi matthew do a latin jazz piece that'll give you a nice change of pace

  • My One And Only Love , maybe you could get a singer too? Maybe your dad... Great Job once again

    Hi Matthew,

"I've Grown Accustomed To Your Face"

would be fine - or have you already done

    it? Thanks!

  • @crazydaisydoo

I love to hear Harlem Nocturne. Thanks.

  • @crazydaisydoo Great tune, Amazing sound! How about Georgia on my Mind or St. Thomas? :-)

  • Gorgeous tune - fun to play, easy to swing, and caressed ever-so-gently (as usual) by your tenor.

That's a beautiful tone - of course, I've always enjoyed listening to your big, lovely tenor sound!

Your nice take on Wave has me thinking of hanging out en una hamaca nublada, sipping a cold Cerveza Sol on a warm & breezy tropical afternoon.....hold on - that's what I'm doing NOW!

It's very nice to plug in the backyard speakers, listen to YOU, and just laze away the whole PM!

    Thanks, Matt!

  • Kind words as usual SM, funny enough that cold beer was exactly what I what I was thinking about, that and the odd Ab and Csharp scale....horrible to improvise over, but good for you. Like musical porridge. I agree though, the head is nice to play.

  • hi very awesome job on wave

kind of book that have this song and where can i can find the play along also

Your so good at jazz i wish i was better at jazz

  • it is in the hal leonard real book vol 1, and the backing is from the cd's that you can buy to go with it. It is a big investment but worth it.

  • Congratulations good sound good only

    Regards

    Manu

  • very nice articulation w/ that mouthpiece. sweet & even, but speaks, too -BT

  • Oh man. I like your play. So many feelings ! Thank you for this song.

  • you really make the bossa nova accents stand out, great feeling and control, loved it.

  • Smoth! A great listen. Keep it up!

  • very nice, im a sax/clarinet player myself. any reed suggestions on a Guardala Studio mouthpiece? ive been using java and v16/ZZ reeds arent even gonna cut it anymore. your input would be nice. also would you be able to send anything to me? like play alongs or what not.

  • Thanks, I have never tried a Guardala, but I hated the ZZ reeds, to buzzy and bright on me. I love Rico Royals and Alexanders DC, both in 3's, but my mpc is only a 7, so thats about a 100 opening

  • hell yeah man. im just starting sax, your a big inspiration
