@MCsVoice97 You can't blame Mariah, all of her songs were extremely difficult to sing by themselves but sang consecutively? Only Mariah could've pulled it off, of course that's why they say there's always a price to pay when straining your voice and that it shortens your career ;) Of course in this case, it was her vocal ability. But it was either that or not give the audience what they were looking for, so I don't think she regrets any of it

@seansocheap yeah of course + her growing nodules...but it's not just that! she drinks alcohol since her divorce she got filmed thousand times with a glass of champagne in the hand... I mean look at patti or chaka, they belted their ass off all their lives and still can amazingly... and they're much older than mariah who lost that majestic voice when she was 27 (I'm not saying she cant sing since 97 but what was so pure and magical is gone)

@MCsVoice97 patti and chaka could never sing like this, they are talented but mariah high notes are from another league. the problem is also her nose surgery, it makes your voice most time more lighten and of course straining of the voice, making the whisper tone, whistles it was to much for her voice. most singers take break after one album, but she released after one decade a whole album with her number ones! she worked it

@MCsVoice97 if you have nose surgery, it change everything in your voice, mariah had more then one for sure :( that one of the biggest problems. compare daydream to emotions, to very very different voice tone both unbelievable good. that problem also she sing in the past also in full cheast voice and could still go 2-3 octaves then chaka, patti then she started her "own vocal technique", just mixed belts and very high & whisper register... and then comes the sleep, champagne, nodules problem!

MCsVoice97my singing teacher told me, you have to chose one register because its unhealthy and voice can break, she sang from alto to sopran, hard soul belts after 95 most the time mixed pure belts notes, her vocal technique is just to difficult and he told me if you get nose surgery your high notes and voice tone can change, there specialist for that,but i think mariah just wanted look better aulthough she is was pretty and her vocals changed like michael jackson over the time!

MCsVoice97 if you hear vision of love 90 debut and for example 96, the notes 96 are more lighten, higher also resonant but changed. actually i love every texture of her from musicbox/daydream/butterfly and and, but her voice from 1990-2000 is the best especially 96 like this performance is just "how can someone hit one song, all the notes, have such a control and belt like shotgun?" ;) think the nose thing stress, new vocals, not sleeping, of course alcohol and overpowering was the problem :(

MCsVoice97 hope is not her boobs :) i think she looked better without her plastic boobs, oh men she was in her prime so legendary and still is, but i have to say i miss 90´s mariah so much, nobody could touch her vocals, voice tone/texture, melisma, belts, rang was soooo amazing, she could sing everything! but she still sound amazing, the christmas special shows, if she wants to, she can sound like a beast!

I mean she still can manage to sing good, but her voice got numb from not being able to train well regulary (vocal rest, raspy voice) and her nodules got bigger... nodules can make it really hard for a singer to sing perfectly on tune (i'm sure you already know that :)) and i when you listen to the live parts when she sang in washington she was pitch perfect!! (not like in her recent concerts) = melodyne! lol she uses it on her albums too... :(

@MCsVoice97 her biggest problem is not hitting a high belted note, it's mostly sustaining notes (even easy ones) i mean she couldn't hit high belted notes live like she used to but sometimes she even lips simple parts because it's hard for her i guess because of the nodules but nobody really knows what's going on with her voice besides her and her doctor i think... and i don't think she used that melodyne thing in the washington performance, she was very focused and lipped the hard belted parts.

The deterioration of her voice still remains a mystery to me, happened from 1997 onwards, this really was the peak for her.

I woudnt call it deterioration, thats way overdone. Her voice had changed through the years, thats true. But thats not unusual. You cant expect her to be forever 20 years old.

Today her voice is more strained, but its still amazing. But keep in mind that she never had done so many performances in the 90s like today. Daydream was her first world tour, although she was already a superstar for 5 years.

I agree! Yes, her voice has changed. But I like her voice AND the different changes it's gone through over the years. Now doubt that this VOL performance was MC at her peak, but in 97/98 I loved the slight raspy strain she had on her vocals when she belted (e.g. Patti Labelle tribute).

Don't mourn her old vocals, but be happy for the vocals we have now and listen for the things she does now, that she never did back then - cause there are things! :)

Her voice was great here because she really rested/ conserved it a lot. I mean this tour was only 6 or 7 shows with almost a week in between shows to rest her voice. The mimi tour was over 40 dates with at most a day's break. She sounded great in the Charmbracelet era as well because she was resting a lot more (after Glitter) doing less perfomances, except for the CB tour which was vocally really good, something like 50 performances.
