I wasn't much aware of, much less into, this band 'back in the day'. I'm here to sus 'em out prior to next w/e's Gathering Fest in Bris. Sad to say, but each vid I check confirms that they were hardly a leading or 'special' band of the day. Of that pub rock scene back then, I'd say the Rifles were up with the best, and many miles in front of ST. Sigh...
Back then I remember thinking that this was a great Aussie mainstream rock song, but in those days this wasn't mainstream. What passed for mainstream Aussie Rock in those days was pretty shite.
@shorn70 if anything it knocks spots of a lot of stuff that's charting at the moment. This has a lot of guts that can pound Jet and The Vines into the asphalt.
Anyone that saw a Tribesman gig, would rate them the equal of any band of that era "live"...they had no peer...why would they with "Klondike" on lead...
One of my all time faves and right up their with the great "live" pub bands of the 80's - Painters and Dockers, Hoodoo Gurus, Sunnyboys, Hunters and Collectors...
@valixir All excellent bands. Shame that P&D, H&C and Sunnyboys aren't with us anymore. The Hoodoo Gurus new album is excellent, and I met Dave Faulkner a few months ago at a music industry workshop whilst he was demonstrating how he wrote the songs for it and he is a really top guy!
Back then, in the Australian music scene, it was actually about the music, not the musicians' appearance. Thank god. Saved us from producing image-conscious pap like Operator Please and The Grates. So proud of what Brisbane is pumping out these days : / I saw the Tribesmen so many times, and they always put on a stellar show.
@myauralfixation I am working on a girl rock/dance band in Brisbane called Laissez-Fayre at the moment which is not just against fashion and dress sense, it's out to endorse the nudist way of life. You don't have to wear fancy designer clothes or have any of the trappings of modern society to make music that's going to make people stand up and take notice. We're on youtube if you wanna check us out at laissezfayre. Currently auditioning new members cos it takes guts to do this band.
I never saw this video back in the day. I do remember the shock I had on seeing them at the old 9:30 Club in D.C. and seeing the Charvel "metal guitar" Masuak was playing. Still he's a motherf'er on guitar and it was a good show. I'm glad to report Chris now plays a Fender Strat and a Gibson Firebird!
cant believe nzoz an rixta would compare these guys 2 such crap as poison etc....date with a vampire girl is one of the most underrated songs ever..........and to me they r more in the vain of primitive rock, not glam.............
can someone please post date with a vampire girl...and can someone tell me the lead singers name ....was he in the only ones....and if any one knows any projects he mite b doing
Yeah, I had a white one, a black one, and a red one. It was the style, yeah? We also wore Converse and tight black jeans and had black hair. So unfashionable that here we are, 20 years later, and kiddies are copying us ;P
yeah, but these guys were almost glam rock per US shyte..not in the same league or sound as the stems, gurus, lime spiders, spliffs, etc...cheesy...but yeah, i went many a time in my youth..remember the nubiles or the huxton creepers?
cant help but keep their vynl tho...what is that..but prefer my moffs stems pony rifles creepers super k hitmen gurus spliffs 7"s and albums...and then the left field(at the tym anyway) WPA action....long live aus 80s, hey?

Nice! Old-school garage rock from OZ!
Agreed that Lime Spiders are the best! However, the Tribesmen are also quite nice to hear!

It's got a crossover pop/rock vibe to it for a band that was fiercely independent. I really like it though being a Brisbane rock music fan. :)

Cant believe people are commenting on their look (so superficial). The song rocks and I think one of their best.

They were done by this time - but they had some great songs - Igloo and Move a little closer are classics.

Lbuzzard 4 years ago
It took a lot of effort to be cool in the 80s. It could be an aberration of coolness.

Yes, considering their Radio Birdman and Hitmen past, it's surprising these guys took the 'glammy' approach at this stage.
