I think I would agree with Pitcairn2 that Julian Bream is the greatest guitarist of the 20th century, but I'm amazed at his left hand posture. It looks horrible. His fingers are seldom perpendicular to the fingerboard. How does he manage to avoid accidental muting of adjacent strings?
I'm not so sure that he is the best but, certainly, is one of the most accomplished and brilliant guitarists of the period. His skills and profoundness define me, give me a bit of sense and meaning of my existence...
Oh yes the Master. Julian is a wonderful exponent of the Classical Guitar. Happy Birthday to you. On the 15th July. I wish you all the Best and many more happy ones. The Classical Guitar Society of N Ireland
always wondered why Bream did not play this on the Lacote 1820 Guitar from the period, as he did with the baroque guitar and the vihuela. as much as i love this i think it would have been great to see /hear
This music introducts me to the classical guitar. After i saw this performance of julian bream i decided that i want to learn how to play classical music on guitar =). Thanks Bream!
Such a great musician, and a wonderful rendering of this classic repertoire cornerstone... But what else makes Julian Bream so extraordinary? His fantastic collection of retro suits and shirts, of course.

He was my greatest inspiration when I at that time played classical guitar; and much more so than Segovia....clearer tune I feel....but I left that hard work that classical guitar is; and instead intertwined it to pieces of acoustic playing and compositions...

It's too bad we couldn't see more of Bream's great playing and less of the irrelevant video scenes. Oh, wait, I get it. It's Spain, and Sor was from Spain. Wow!

I do not care what anyone say's. Bream is the GREATEST guitarist of the 20th Century. Nothing to do with the fact that I am English like Bream. He is simply a MASTER
@Pitcairn2 could not agree with you more and there are so many incredible guitarists but he is mindblowing where expression and interpretation are concerned. Words fail me when he plays.
Julian Bream for me, is definitely the most expressive guitarist of all times, a real treat and great inspiration for concert guitarist and people who just love this music
@williamduranti Do you really believe he was more expressive than Parkening? I like Bream better, but I think Parkening is just a smidge more expressive....
I never made a comparison with Parkening who is a fantastic musician I respect and remains one of my favourites. However you, since we are both guitarist ourselves you can agree that music is emotion and Bream to me has an expressiveness that takes me. It is personal and sincere point of view no strings attached
@williamduranti Yes in fact to most people he would be the most 'expressive'(romantic we should say) guitarist because he plays in that Romantic style. While others like Pepe Romero would be more of a Spanish Flamenco style. Williams plays in a more traditional and conservative style and always takes the composers' purpose as the highest instead of individual interpretations. Russell is quiet traditional as well similar to Williams but still slightly different. CDs show everyone is different.

You know the classical guitar is looked down upon, partly because of your mentality of "well i play classical, well it's totally different and with an amp but still". Fuck off. Just fuck off.
Hi ftryew. Any chance you could post it here on youtube? Btw, I have the sheet music, and no one plays it as written. Segovia no doubt plays his own version - it's musically the best.
There´s no "Definitive in terms of interpretation" . The humam being is not a machine. Segovia is great, and Bream is equally Great. Bream plays great here.
But be prepared to have the video editors interrupt the piece with Bream's own audio commentaries.
Also, they cut the piece off - you don't get to hear the whole piece here.
It's unfortunate - I would've like to hear the whole thing without the commentaries.
