  • I still like this song, but I didn't realize till now how it reeks of Calvinism.

  • Hey, why do you say 'reeks'? Nowt wrong with Calvinism! :-)

  • Amazing song. Heard it soon after accepting Calvinist doctrine. Mad me cry.

  • I have Always Loved this song...

  • SuperRevelations and lesleygore2: I used to think that REM's "Losing My Religion" was anti-Christian, until I realized that "religion" is about ritual; Christianity is about relationship. I think more Christians should "lose their religion", concentrate on their daily relationship with God, and worship in spirit and truth. PS. No, this is not an endorsement of REM. ;>)

  • ahh...wicket....

if predes. is correct, how is apostasy possible. hmm...

I love this one. I don't think it matters...live for God and you don't have to worry about it. LOL.

  • Hey lesleygore2 I agree with you, I am anti- religion as well, but I am not anti-Christ, i am for Jesus all the way! Religion is all rules and it's not what Christ wanted us to be like at all.....he got rid of the rules and grace replaced them.....yet that does not mean we can not sin...it just means that we can now live freely and we will not want to sin with Grace, Jesus sets us free! He truly does, from all our sins!

  • This is probably my favorite "doctrinal" contemporary Christian pop song. It's just so darn true.

  • I would love to see caedmons call and Guster jam together.

  • Amen! There by the GRACE of God go I...

  • its good to see an old school Caedmon's video with all the original members...also all the times ive seen them do this song live i never saw Todd play that trash can so sedately..

  • I hope you don't really find out...eternity is a long time, my friend!!

  • We are all capable when we realize our actions have no eternal consequences, because Christ took all the judgement and Christ is in each human on planet earth already

  • No, you have to CHOOSE Him. God gave us our own free will. If we were all born again & going to heaven already, we wouldn't still be on this earth. You should read the Bible a little more. People are sadly decieved into this notion you mention. God love us all, but WE make the choice!

  • Heaven is within you. The Church has it backwards. John 1:13 came before John 1:12. After you believe you were already born again at the resurrection, you will believe the truth.

  • We don't choose God. We aren't even able to do so. He chooses us. That's the point of this song.

  • Hmmm that ole doctrinal conundrum: predestination and/or free will...

    A sticky wicket that one...

  • Yup, it certainly is (a sticky wicket, that is). And there are godly, sincere people on both sides. I believe however, that the bible clearly supports predestination.

  • no he died for you and me... he is not in us yet... we have to let him in... he is knocking on our hearts doors!

  • Yep he is standing at the door of your heart inside your spirit, that verse was written to believers, you need to let him in your soul, he's already in your spirit

  • I saw the group in concert this past Saturday, but there was no Cliff Young, no Danielle Young, and no Derek Webb :( Major disappointment.

  • I saw Caedmon's Call play at a Nazarene college one time, and all the Nazarenes were singing along to this song! Very funny! They didn't even realize the band is trashing Nazarene theology in this song.

  • Happy Sabbath guys! This song is great...

Most certainly, we're incapable of doing any good on our own!

    Philippians 2:13

"For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure."

  • why do some of you get so angry and argumentative . . . gross. This is not the forum, either.

  • Let me clarify. What I was going to close my last comment with was that Jesus was perfect. (that is, in response to your comment,DrunkinApe)

  • that is my best friend uncle!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love you Cliff and daneille!!!!

  • Still inspiring!

  • I am thankful for Caedmon's Call! These guys still around, or what?

  • yes, they are. lol

i'm going to their concert tomorrow. :)

  • Actually, the fact that He's perfect is the reason Jesus died. He was without sin and in Him there was no sin but He laid upon Himself the iniquity of us all. So that we could be saved. His death opened the way so that we could have a personal relationship with the Father.

  • i hate to tell u jogni but no one is perfect but jesus is the closest to perfect as there can and ever will be. If he was perfect he would have never been killed.

  • Jesus is perfect. Which is WHY he was killed. Even Pontius Pilot-the one who sentenced Jesus to death- found in Him no fault. He did it for favor of the people.

Jesus died for us to provide a propitiation for our sins so we could be forgiven of our imperfections and be accepted into heaven...

  • Jesus is perfect. Which is WHY he was killed. Even Pontius Pilot-the one who sentenced Jesus to death- found in Him no fault. He did it for favor of the people.

  • Going on from elefanttea who is absolutely right, Jesus was so perfect that even once he had taken on the whole worlds sins he could not stay in hell for more than three days and was raised to life.

  • Jesus didn't die for anything he done, Jesus died for us to show us the way, HE is our shepherd. HE came to prepare a path for us HE is the light at our feet FOLLOW HIM. Don't you know that Death is the way out of sin. HE died for us. Now DIE for him.

Death: A return or a reverting of the building blocks of God's creation to their former original state.

  • I'm sorry, but then that leaves us with no saviour. The Bible says that Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to God except through Jesus.

  • luv it....great lyrics plus 2 harmonicas!!!!

  • <3 Derek Webb.

  • I know, but I'm so glad that I have a God that watches over me even when I'm stumbling. I don't know that belittle would be the right word though... I'd use the word humble.

  • We have a sinful nature...Which is what this song is about. There are none righteous. No one is/was ever or ever will be perfect. Only Jesus was/is perfect (the only perfect human being). God is the only one who can be called "good" (as Jesus himself said). Jesus is the way, truth, and life. He is the only way to God.

  • Yeah, like each time one of them religious leaders gets into some sex scandal or money laundering issue.

If some higher power was watching over them, then explain how they get into trouble?

People do what they want-when they want.

  • They must be praying to the wrong god.

  • They are not above sin. Free will allows them to do whatever they want, even if it's not the right thing.

  • HALLELUJA GOD ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • OH YEAH

  • great to remember our true roots...whether we know it or not:)

  • This brings back great memories of the road trip I took with a group of girlfriends to Spirit West Coast in the late 90's... I "discovered" Caedmon's Call there; they quickly became my favorite band. And my friends and I had such a great time together. Thanks!

  • Reformed to the core... love it.

  • Great song... I dont think the audio on this video isnt all that great. sounds way better on the CD. i love this band. very good songs and thoughtful lyrics that are really encouraging to me.

  • awesome song, totally encouraging

  • This comment makes no sense and I am getting sick of seeing it every time I want to watch this video

  • thought about this song today and i am thankful for the video

  • Derek sounded so country back in the day !!

  • Holy crap, this is old. Derek's voice sounds so... young.

  • i love this song!!!!!!!

  • I haven't seen this in a long time and I cannot believe it is on the first pg!
