  • Suprisingly i thought that was easy o-o

  • This isnt as fun as the 1-10 song in Japanese.. *sigh* D:

  • 4 can be either Shi or Yon. But people used to prefer the "yon" because "shi" means death in Japanese. :)

  • isnt 4 shi

  • I think they got 4 wrong

  • jyu nana is my fave it sounds so cool

  • JEW GO!

  • 0 = zero LOL

  • Actually it's ichi ni san SHI go roku SHIICHI (after 10 4 turns to yon and seven turns to nana)

  • Wait, are you sure some of the numbers are right ? o.O

  • Hatschi XDDD

  • Hho

  • 4 can also be shi right?

  • @HesDaryl

yes ... nut they dont like saying that cuz shi also means ''death''

  • @ivanpopovicrazza yeah well i didnt know that

  • @ivanpopovicrazza

  • we don't speak "shi" because had a connection with the noun death

  • Isn't 4-Shi

  • i though 4 was shi and 7 hichi and not yon an nana

  • ichi, ni, san, shi (yon), go, roku, nana, hachi, kyu, jyu, jyu ichi, jyu ni, jyu san, jyu yon, jyu go, jyu roku, jyu nana, jyu hachi, jyu kyu, ni jyu... or something...

  • Why it's not quite like in the clip "Karate 1-10 (Japanese-Japones) ?

  • isnt this tsunayoshi sawada?!?!

  • This is actually not fully correct. When specifically counting, you say shi for four, but in phone numbers, you say yon, so in this case, yon is wrong and shi is correct.

This applies to 7, also - shichi instead, would be correct, as it is counting, but nana would be generally be incorrect.

  • @Razzattack666 thats what i need help with... when do you know which one to use? please tell me, thanks.

  • @glitch509 LMFAO that is like sff aka so fuking funny

  • No, it has nothing to do on where you live and what numbers you say. Most Japanese would say "nana" for seven but "shichi gatsu" for July. You can either say "shi" or "yon" for four but when you say forty, most would say "yon ju."

It's really not that confusing, just takes some practice. When you get into numbering how many things there are, it does get quite a bit, but that is different and you shouldn't learn about it yet until you learn the basic numbers.

  • Wow... uuuhh... I learned the numbers (what i can remeber of them which is up to six *sweatdrop* a different way... Then again I got a Japanese/english grammar book that I lost T_T... I learned it Ichi, ni, san, shi, go, roku... not yon... well, then again it did say it depended on the area or something... *head drop* oh my... how confusing lol

  • I just noticed japanese numbers sound very similar to tibetan numbers.e.g. two, ten, eleven, twelve, thirteen, ninteen and twenty sound exactly alike.

  • i know until no. 500 =D

  • after a name they rite name-san or name-sama what does that means

  • In Japan putting and saying san, sama, chan, kun or other things is a show of respect. it can be very rude not to put one after the persons last or first name depending on the relation ship. MY last name is Chavez if we had just met u would say Chavez-san, but if i was perhaps older than u such as an upperclassman in school u would say Chavez-sama. If you would like more information on this just reply back.

  • if i would like to say that to my brother ao any other person does it matters then if it''s a boy or a girl , also , to say it to a person you don't know but is older or have the same age as me what do i need to say then ( btw thank you for your respond on my questions )

  • If it was your older brother you could say onii-chan, but most commonly when its a close relationship you could call them by their first name or say the name and then-kun (if its a boy). Saying san after the persons last name is also most common for people your not close to whether they are older or not. San is a kind of way to say Mr. or Ms. Also for the little brother you could say kohai (usually though its used by upperclassman to talk to younger people)

  • thank you very much it's been very helpful for me to understant the anime serie's a littlebit more yet i'm sure that there are some special things in the japanese langauge (wrong spelled ) sow if you have some free time please feel free to send some messages to help even further

  • i have a question : the " kanji art " , can you writh it ?? i think it would be realy cool . i have search on the internet for "honor" in kanji and it's realy cool but tough

  • no lol. I personely cannot, i just do ALOT of study on japan and i hope to visit by the time im 20. im not as far as to write complicated kanji. but ill look it up and try^^

  • i think sama is maybe too much of a show of respect. lets just save the sama to god or someone who you idolize. and by the way, it would be chabesu-san or kun. since well, you cant put chavez in japanese

  • san means mr./mrs

  • it was told to me that the counting to 10 was : ich , ni ,san ,chi ,go ,rokuu ,sichi ,hachi , gu , ju could this also be right ???

  • yes. it most certainly can. you dont HAVE to say it a certain way but usually they say those when saying dates or purchasing things

  • So is 'four' actually 'si' or 'yon', 'cause I got confused with another video. Or maybe I can say both?

  • yes it just depends. u CAN say it eathier way but usually they diffentiate by how ur using the word such as counting or saying dates.

  • great!!! 10/10

  • to me the hardest to say is the number 6 roku its a little bit l and r i dont know

  • is it? =X very easy for me Lol very very easy i can speak to 99`999 in japanese

  • ichi ni san shi/yon go roku nan hachi kyu jyu

  • i try learn:) so nice * language i love it*

  • some of the japanese numbers are close to the tibetan numbers

  • I have it pretty much memorized, but I still need a few seconds to think before I count. lol I need to memorize it a bit more so I can say it without any problem. =]

  • In other words, you need to learn it as opposed to memorize it.

  • *spaß an* "8" Gesundheit ^^ *spaß aus*

    Tolles Video..

Da sieht man wenigstens was gemeint ist und es wird so deutlich gesprochen das man es gut verstehen kann 5/5 Sternen..^^

  • after 10, is it supposed to be jyu-ichi[11] or ichi-jyu? and then when you hit 20, 30, etc, would it be nijyu-ichi or ichi-nijyu?

  • Yeah jyu ichi juyu san etc.

  • i thought 4 was "she"

  • I belive (But I may be wrong) below 10 she/yon are interchangable but above ten its Yon.

    Eg. Yon juu

  • siometimes numbers have two pronounciations/ words, they might be different counting ones or Clock/Time ones!

  • Glad to hear A Japanese National SPEAK instead of the FOREIGNERS...not pronouncing them Correctly! Thanks, RR

  • ..najataro

  • Thanks!!! Very easy to listen to and practice.

  • i have been on holiday to japan a couple of times and also i do karate and you need to be able to speak quite a bit for 1st dan black belt. I can say all the numbers uo to 999,999

  • Maybe I should record you- make a special Karate based learning series -would that be useful to those in the sport?

    Welcome more of your feedback.Thanks

  • if you were to do that you would need to learn all of the language. If you give me your email i will send you all ofthe prases and the japanese counterparts

  • here i hope this helps with pronounciation 0 = zearo 1 = ichi 2 = knee 3 = san 4 = shi / yon 5 = go (very short o) 6 = rock (spelt roku) 7 = seech (spelt seich) 8 = hatch (spelt hatchi) 9 = koo (spelt kyu) 10 = jew (short "ew" spelt jyu)
  • Thanks for this, I wil make a new version with this included,I am trying to create short courses for learning on your phone/ Ipod

This feedback is very helpful , Do you think it would help to repeat each number ? I was trying to keep them short as you can replay them instantly

    Thanks again for your imput

  • Another reason for not putting in the pronounciation was you only need to see it once or twice, it bears no reality to written japanese so it would damage the minimalist look I quite like.

You can hear the pronunciation very clearly and you can repeat it over and over again to learn.

  • yes but if it is written it is even easier to see how it is pronounced as there are different accents in japanese and the one you sre using is the romani (sp?) Ramanji is for tourists and not the spoken lanuage there.

  • why there are two ways for:

    4=shi/yon

7=seech/NANA (heard it in other lesson)?

And what about 0=zero (just as it is in English) Is it adopted from English, or it is just the same in these two languages?

  • It depends how they are used for numbers with two pronunciations (kyuu and kuu for 9, shichi and nana for 7, and shi and yon for four) they're used in different places but mean the same number. For example, we say "yon'nin" for four people, because "shi" also means death.

And yes, Japanese took the word zero from English, they do have their own word (Rei) but most often use zero.

  • Thank You for the complete answer! Now it is a bit clearer

  • No problem.

  • exactly they use different wording.

  • also there are more ways to say the numbers

  • very helpful although 4 can also be pronounced "shi" as well as "yon"

  • Thank you, this is from a 12 hour audio CD course I recorded for Accelerated Learning.I am experimenting in turning it into downloadable audio with basic visuals.I have also got courses in Spanish,French,Italian and German to do, when I get more time. You seem very educated on japanese can I ask how?

  • I also speak fluent french, when you do karate they dont say

  • where did you get that cd?

  • Accelerated Learning ( UK ) have the full audio course -they have a YouTube site -its about 11 hour long!

  • @regs1908 Can shit really be used as yon cuz im getting confused with shi im hearing it can be for 3 and 5 as well so im trying to go over the numbers again

  • thank you. i like it better than the song

  • Thank you, it's really easy ;D

  • thank you so much i learned a lot

  • not as helpful as the song

  • AWESOME!!!!
