I have a silver Roland G707 with the original case/the Roland GR700 synthesizer with case and power cord/and the 24 pin synth cable....This is the whole set-up...the guitar was used by my dad in the 80s but after he passed away it just sat in its case...serious offers feel free to email me
Excellent use of the synthesizer. I have an Ibanez X-ing IMG2010 (1986 model). Similar in control and appearance, except with out the bar over the neck. Jim's a funny guy and an excellent picker. Thanks for sharing.
I love Jim because he is as talented as anyone..but he never went for the quick buck or did ANYTHING people expected him to do..he just did what he wanted
Along the same lines, Youtube used to have a clip of Donny Osmond playing a pretty wicked synthesizer solo on a modular Moog. I can't find it. Maybe someone else can find a link or repost it.
@NewShimmer Wasn't that on the old short lived Osmonds variety TV show back in the early 70's? I think I saw it when I was a kid and always wondered what song they were playing. It was pretty wild from what I remember.
@ianshann You should see the stuff they have now. Roland has a set-up, that works in conjunction with a MIDI modified stratocaster. You can switch to open tunings, dropped D's, and a whole spectrum of different guitar amp applications even sound like a mandolin, and it sound's spectacular!! About $4,000.00 for the complete setup, san's amplifier...
I am so surprised to be seeing Jim play one of these guitars... the only one I had seen till now was one that David Sterry of Real Life ("Send Me An Angel") played. How great to be seeing Jim spreading his wings and doing something so different. He really is a great musician.
Never see any one play one today? Just the fad back then I guess? He is vary talented and able to adapt to the times. Long live Jim Stafford..great post.
The tracking on those early Roland guitar synths was horrible. I used to own one. If you didn't hit a note square on, it would "conveniently" pick a note for you. It didn't matter what note, it would just pick one. Also, on the lower strings, there was a discernable lag, which made you always feel like you were playing behind the beat. They were great for string pads or new-agey stuff, but if you had to keep time, they stunk!
@gdwest999 I totally agree .they also messed up your chops because the attack wasn't immediate.so if you went back to real guitar after playing this contrapyion for a long time, you practically had to develop your timing all over again.I watched this actually happen to a guy.
