I'm 24 years old, 6'1" and 190 pounds. I have a dream (quarter life crisis) of being a pro field goal kicker. Today was the first day I tried kicking and needless to say, I need some work but I definitely have the potential having played soccer most of my life.

I'm wondering if it's impossible to become a kicker in AFL, NFL or Canadian having not even attended college. Are there open try outs? I have the drive, I just need some coaching.

when you say how long of a field goal you kicked, do you use the yard line u kicked it from or including the endzone. etc.. 45 yarder on the 35 yard line

@checkyaboy0802 if the line of scrimmage was at the 35 yard line of your opponents territory then you would be kicking a 52 or a 53 yard field goal. It includes the yards to the goal line, the 10 yards of the endzone and the 7 to 8 yards (usually 8) behind the line of scrimmage the kicker will be set up to kick it.

a quick tip for the announcer, a field goal of less than 30 yards is not considered long. and kids in high school can hit it from 60 yards out so quit with the "it has the distance" thing

@RyTyAnthony not usually. they have a kicking shoe on their foot, and they just put a lightweight cleat on the other one. rob bironas is using the Nike Super speed as his non kicking shoe

@RyTyAnthony I do. I wear Adidas f50i tunits, and i hit 50 yarders all day no problem. But it all depends on personal perference, i know some kickers that like to wear specific kicking shoes but most just wear soccer cleats.

I practice every day kicking for playing kicker next year on my High School football team, but can't seem to get my kicks constant, and far enough. Some times i can kick 55 yards, but they arent accurate, but then sometime i can kick 30 yarders right down the middle. Any tips? Also where do you guys place your kicks on your foot? mine alwas seems to end up towards my tip of my foot :/

im only 14 and i can kick but im not consistant. This video helped a ton. Before it i would hit a 30 yd one out of ten times. But now im hitting a 40 anbout 8 out of ten times. Best field goal kicking video i have ever watched

im a freshman highschool kicker...in my opinion its harder to kick off the ground cuz u cant get under it as much as if u would with a tee...anyone else agree?

Note to the announcer in the begenning, when an NFL KICKER has a 29 yard fg attempt. When the ball's in the air, don't say, "It has the distance." It obviously is gonna have the distance.

@defdrumm as a freshman college kicker, i know that a tee makes a HUGE difference. sine you are not allowed to have a tee for college, you have to kick off the ground. having the tee makes the ball go so much higher, your plant foot would also have to be a little bit further back than what it normally is

I play linebacker and Ive been a field goal kicker my whole life since I started youth football...Ima freshman now, and I can kick a 45 yrd field goal..Is it true when they say soccer kickers make it farther...I try to do it like that, but I cant ever get my steps down..any help?

@MultiJoey1111 just take the normal 3 back 2 over and instead of running head on it make a b line to the ball and hit it with you lace and stay up right staight or the ball might turn left or right. trust me i know varsity kicker an im a freshman

i just started kicking for my high school football team 3 weeks ago. i originally played linebacker (i still do) but decided to give kicking a try. yesterday i was able to kick the ball from the 30 and missed the goal post by a foot. i can make the distance, i just lack the proper technique

should I be kicking a 3-2 or a 2-1? For those of you who don't understand my cryptic message, 3=#of steps back, 2=#of steps to the side. More importantly, does it matter at all? Because it seems that a 3-2 gets me more distance when the contact is right, but the 2-1 is more consistent in height and distance.

@unorthadoxcreator If you feel that the 2-1 is more consistent then use that one. At the level you will be playing, consistency is a lot more important than a few more yards. About how far out are you consistent from?

@pudgylumpkins generally, if it's a good day for me, i'll be consistent out to thirty yards, but that's on a good day, like i said. I kick off the ground, and i've heard that doing so could be an issue for early level kickers
