I'm convinced drafting people increased the bad temper in people deployed in vietnam and as a result the locals suffered more because this war was mainly made of people who didn't want to be involved in the first place and were forced to join in drafting. RIght from the start it was a recipe for breeding hatred. Many of those drafted wanted revenge on people for being drafted and the poor civilians and their own comerades were often targets.
