@alsoknownasnuria Some horses have times where they like to slow down during these races because they're lazy or just having an off day. Using the crop will keep them going. Jockeys use it during races because horses will slow down sometimes right before the finish line.

My instructor always told, and still tells me that to respect a horse, you also must respect their size and strength. Would I hit a kid if it wasn't jogging, no, because it hurts them worse than it would a horse. If I have to bop a horse to get him to stop doing something(like rubbing on me as if I were a post), I will.

God people need to lay off the whole anti whip thing. She wasn't overusing, have you watched Pro barrel racers? Try a hoof in your gut once and then tell me you wouldn't take a smack from a wimpy riding crop or reign any day. Horses are not little baby dolls that must be handled with the gentlest hands, they are hundreds, or in large horses, thousands of pound animals. They can friggin handle it.

just bc u whip doesnt mean u are whipping hard. any one who rides horses knows that if it hurts them or it they are angry they will let you know. i dont barrel race and i probably never will competitivly, but i know ppl who do and they say it just encourages. plus if you whatch clossly the whip hardly ever actually touches the horse she might be just popping it.
Parents need to teach her not to overuse her whip. She was not using it as an encouragement, she was using it as a tool to say "Run faster so I stop hurting you." Just because horse skin is thick doesn't mean you can repeatedly whip them and they won't feel it!

You might as well add "The saddle can be put on wrong" "they kick the horses too hard" "The footing might not be right" "they don't feed their horses" "They drug their horses to make them perform better" "Their bridles are too small" "They bounce in the saddle, hurting the horse's backs" "they punch their horses' noses after each run" Cause those arguments are just as strong as the ones you've posted.

Hey do you have anything to say that isn't stupid? You obviously don't know what you are talking about so you are just making yourself sound silly. And the reason that you speak of that is so cruel about the sport of barrel racing happens about every 1 out of 1000 rides and probably less. And you don't see this little 10 year old girl yanking the horse or jerking it's face off. And when they whip the horse they aren't being mean and it doesn't hurt the horse. Check IT! Dummy

@Luneytoon121 Well that means so is showjumping, and dressage, and reining, and cowhorse, and roping, and trail riding and everything tha involves human contact with a horse. You must be pretty naive. 99.99% of top showjumper's horses don't open their mouth because they have either a flash or a figure 8 noseband to keep their mouth closed so they don't evade the bit. Showjumpers can easily crash and fall and break a leg and use crops as well. Gee, your username fits, you are a looney toon.
