yep, it really is. boards with longer wheelbases will be better for distance, and those pressed with carbon or glass have a lively 'pop' to them, they'll also keep their life longer than a plain wood (usually birch or maple) deck. keeping a loose front truck and tighter rear truck is really key.
I have a sector 9 uluwatu(my first board). If I tighten my rear truck will I turn better and will my speed be affected? My longboard is 46 inches by the way.
46" is a good length, the main point though is wheelbase more than deck length, anywhere in the 26"--29" range is great for distance.
a tight rear truck actually limits its turniness but increases the potential for power off the back...with a loose front truck you just power off the rear and steer the nose.
i have a sector 9 supercruiser, if you want tight turns put your back foot just infront of your back bolts, tha about shoulder width apart, place your front foot , hang your heel off a bit mines off normaly about 2-4 inches, if your wheels are grippy youll turn on a dime, if theyre a bit harder youll still turn tight, but youll feel a bit of release but keep control through the turn and youll be fine!
oh and dont tighten your turcks, loosey goosey man! lol my bushings can almost slide up and down lol i love a loose truck, it makes you learn control while going fast down a hill!
Just the way I like it. I like to push around myself. It's not about who can do this or that trick but just having fun on a board with wheels. Check my vids too I don't do tricks either I just love to ride.
longbordin is not about fancy lil tricks u douche bag insaned drummer its about ridin the way you want in a way u enjoy not wat evry1 else thinks is cool...douche

I think you could pump with any kind of trucks, but you need to make your axes softer.
