THIS IS TRULY MY FAVORITE SONG BY THE TEMPS. RICHARDS VOICE WAS SO SEXY AND SMOOTH. I CANT BELIEVE THIS SONG DOES'NT GET ITS JUST DO. RICHARD IS BY FAR MY FAVORITE AND HE DOES'NT GET ENOUGH CREDIT FOR HIS CONTRIBUTION TO THE TEMPS. THAT BEATIFUL SMILE AND THOSE DIMPLES DRIVE ME CRAZY!!!!!!!!!!
I almost forgot about "Hey Girl". This is when love songs were about romancing the heart:). Was Damon Harris (or is it Williams) singing with the Tempts on this song?
i keep listening to this over & over... brings back beautiful & great memories for me. They is JUST THE BEST LOVE SONG... YOU GOTTA LISTEN TO THE WORDS.... READ THE LYRICS TOO!.......................... THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I DON'T GET TIRED OF LISTENING TO THIS... I ALSO POSTED IT UP ON FACEBOOK & GOT SOME FANS....
OK..i am a Classic 5 Junkie..David, Otis, Melvin, Eddie and Paul, but I love this cut and I know if it hadn't been released when there was a lot of turmoil with American disk jockey's then it would have definitely been a hit. It is just so smooth and has tempting temptations written all over it.
My friends and I were in a talent show in high school about four years ago, and this is one of the songs we stepped to in the show. Can't forget that....
I like Richard and Damon on this one. and Richard does Hey Girl oooh so nice! and Firefly. Really like the way Dennis sings!! and still does! All the Temps were talented in their own way! A song for you is a Dennis classic! Donny nailed it, and Dennis killed it!! David had his own unique style and Eddie just sounded smooth. Like the deep bassy Boom, Booms too, Otis, Melvin, Paul all the tempts were stars! Nobody like them, then and now!
Was your dad one of the famous Tempts., if so, he hd a hell of a voice. I have all the CDs that your dada performs on. I love his voice. Was he the lead singer of the monitors.
Yup that's my Dad. Yup, he and Melvin were second cousins. He also was part of the monitors. He was actually with the Temps before they made their first hit and then came back in '63.
Happy NY, I know U are proud of your Dad, he had one of the finest tenors since being a member of the Tempts. Your dad did a lot of background work for Motown that he did not credit for. I remember your Dad also when he sang lead for the Monitors, I saw him at the Famous Howard Theater in Wash, DC and he was all of that(smile). I am a fan. Get the CD (Truly Yours) and listen to your dad singing on How Can You Say That It's Over and Memories. Those two songs take me out. Peace.
Your dad was a heck of a singer and arguably the most underrated of the secondary lead singers of the Temptations. When is your dad coming out with his book? We've been anticipating and waiting for a while now.
A Temptation song is a Temptation song no matter who leads. They all had the special something that was needed to become a Temptation. The were/are the best at what had to be done and that was to put on a Great show with superb steps and handsome looks, They were great exhibitionist as well as artist. TEMPTATIONS FOREVER AND EVER
asj619650, here are some replacement songs recorded other tempts,Superstar, papa was a rolling stone, Masterpiece, Heavenly, Happy People, Shakey ground, Treat her like a lady, Lady soul,Power, Stay, My love is truly for you, I got true passion for this group in spite of personel changes, they put out great songs, even without eddie and David and when Edwards was not in the group, Woodson is simply incomparable!
no other group has this constant debate "the classic 5' is the best and everyone who came after are Bums!,Mr Asj619650 if you can't have passion for a great singer such as ollie woodson or G.C. Cameron is a hater, those 14 #1 hits were all not recorded by the Classic 5, the so-called replacements recorded 7 0f
those hits with Richard in the group 23 yrs.Of course Streets version is not like Ruffin, but Woodson sounds very good singing that song!
Tuzwol, we all have opinions, I like all of the tempts, some better than others non of them were bums! Otis never put a bum out front, I like Eddie a great deal Iike that sweet tenor singing duets with the gritty lead singer. David thought he was the big dog too!,Richard is the most underrated I agree with winpointmedia, Ilove this group since I was a teenager and they were the Distants in Detroit and Richard was in the group!
Drelover9, u have your opinion and that is all it is, after David and Eddie left the group they had great songs, with front men like David and woodson they never were just another group, You haters are hating because the group didn't fade because David and Eddie leftI Mr asj619650, how in the hell someone who was in the group for 23 years is a fill-in? Street fil-in when paul was alive, hell he was in the group before Paul regardless what the name of the group was, he is a great tempt.
HNY-no disrespect 2 your opinion but 2 get U straight, Richard Street was not a fill-in. He took over a job that required his talent when Paul could no longer perform.
Richard did a lot of background work for Motown recording artist even before he became a tempt. Then you should listen to Richard sing Heavenly.
Richard Street is THE most underrated of the Temps. He would easily have been the lead of any other group. Hey Richard real fans appreciate your greatness
Hold up.... NOW.... this is the jamz of slow dancing with your honey and everyone's looking at you both... yea.... you know you can feel that spark of music that runs up the back of your spine and you can't help but move to these slow jamminhrough yo
This song was penned by the late great Norman Whitfield, who left us about a week ago He also wrote Just My Imagination, Papa Was A Rolling Stone, Ball of Confusion, Run Away Child, Cloud Nine, ect. Whit, as they called him, RIP.
tedkay,so what if damon sounds like eddie, neither one of them has kept the group from moving on! Tyson has been in the group 25 yrs! first tenors are easy to replace, as good as eddie/ damon and the rest of the fake asses, david, dennis, and the incomparable woodson are the big dogs of this group!
As a little girl growing up on music like this: I was dooped: by the time I came of age, men like this werent aroung! Thank you for postin...A girl can listen dream
YO MILLSBROTHERS I have been asking for this to be uploaded-you must have heard me...lol thanks my friend this takes me back to 9th grade-parties in the basement with that one blue light...lol-one of the temps best jams-I lived 7 blocks from Berry Gordy-2 blocks from Melvin Franklin and less than a mile from Hitsville U.S.A. -I Love Detroit-
as a 67 yr of tempt fan since they were the distants i appreciate your props about Richard,no other r&b had all this hating about someone can!t sing like david, because those groups never had great frontmen like the tempts, David, Dennis, and woodson are great!all of them contributed to the tempts legacy, so did louis, theo, g.c. bo, and the newest front man bruce, this group will continue to make good music if otis is in the group, he knows talent!
Hey eld, I think the legacy did not get its due with Theo,Bo and all of the rest of the most recent Temps.I this generation is lost as far as what real music is and what real singing is.I will always be a fan know matter what the line-up.And I will also continue to support the LEGACY!!! All were great contributers! I AGREE!
tonycozart what makes you feel glen and ron wanted to be like eddie? hell tyson been in the group for 25yrs and glen was in the group for 8yrs, otis and the rest of the group know talent and both of those brothers can sing, eddie has been out of the group since 1971, and they didn!t miss a beat, the proof is in the pudding, people like you aren!t true tempts fan, this group didn!t last 50 yrs brcause only david, eddie and paul could sing, no one person is bigger than the group!
50 years the tempts have been singing with different lineups and still singing great! there is not another group where you have this debate who is better! no debate when jerry butler and cutis who was the best, the spinners, who was the best lead phillip, john edwards, or g.c. cameron, smokey left the miracles, teddy left the bluenotes, the drifters had ben e king and clyde Mac, done of this who was the best, every lead singer the tempts had in their 50 yrs is outstanding.
mr tonycozart, otis knows singers and I will say again that otis has never had anyone in the group who couldn!t sing! the tempts never fired anyone because they couldn!t sing. I didn!t say damon was better because I am a tempt fan been one since 1961, I like their total body of work, with the so-called squeaky tenors. I know this their success didn!t stop when Mr Kendricks left the group! and Mr. Ruffin too.
True. I saw them perorm live 20 years ago with my aunt. Richard had the audiences in stitches when he was seeing the hook of Eu's classic hit Da Butt. Then he tried to imimate rapper Big Daddy Kane's routine from his 1988 video Ain't No Half Stepping. He also has a great voice and it's a shame this single didn't become a bigger hit thanks to Ewart Abner being a jerk.
well I'll say it. Outside of Eddie Kendricks; Damon Harris was the next best tenor they ever had. Glen an Ron sounded sqeeky and forced. They (Glen and Ron) were no better than any other cheap Eddie Kendricks wanna be.
I Agree 100%, I've said the same thing tonycozart, Damon was it!! next to the Actual It!`EK! Everyone listen closely, all the way from Baltimore MD! the Temptaions and i would like to Introduce! the one and only Damon (EK) Harris!! everyone else !is! just a fake Ass! Eddie/Temptwanna be!! that's right! I've sadi it! he goes, I go!! and I'm not flying off on some big hate! Otis!! HA ha!!
street was an excellent replacement for paul 2 different voices, paul greatest bariotne ever in that group, Damon the closet sing to Eddie, but the other tenors could sing, ron is good.
@86pimp3 Thanks to Ewart Abner who failed to thank them at the 1974 American Music Awards. That was foul and it was a shame that The Tempts had to suffer because of his shadiness.

Disagree with Richard Street as overrated
rather, a great fill-in with a great soulful
voice suited for certain records, but never
mention him in the same breath with
DAVID RUFFIN! Why? Just listen to any
Street-version of My Girl. Great as a Monitor, very good as a Tempt and Eddie
never let him forget this vocally.
Sorry, I just have that much passion for the Classic 5 and "the last star" Dennis
Edwards and cannot accept the replacements.
