Apparently it saved his life so at the end of the day all is good. HHH push to the main event scene was awesome and it may not have happened if Shawn were around.
wrestlemania 14 when hbk w/hhh n chyna are on there way to the ring notice how shawns nose is flaired out and the gurning grin he gives the camera and the fact he's chewing gum lol just goes to show if you got a messed up spine and you have a big match moment abit of coc helps :)
People have to remember this Wrestlemania 15, the year was 1999, it was held in Philly home of ECW & for Shawn Michaels to get a reaction pop like that just shows how great he truely is.
@Forston22 Well if it wasnt serious then why are you taking offense to it? Gotcha dude, relax Shawn probably is messed up on pills here. The worst was Wrestlemania 14 against Austin, he was so pale he looked like a ghost and he looked like he had trouble getting words out, dont believe me watch the entrance. Everyone praises him as a hero for doing that match, nope he just numbed out the pain as much as he could before the match.
@rmathew2 Ok everybody, first of all. Pills r a serious addiction. And a broken back is no fucking joke. I broke my back at age 18 and ill tell ya FROM EXPERIENCE that there is no way in hell i wouldve been able to go out and perform. No ammount of drugs can numb that pain. even if he was loaded to the point that one more pill would have killed him, he would still be in pain worse than you will EVER feel from the smallest bump. Yea, HERO. unless you have went thru what he (and I) has, STFU!
@DUBtheTIGER I mean, elbow drop from the top, kick up, WITH A BROKEN BACK?!? If that doesnt amaze you, you obviously either havent went thru anything like that, or you're just a Shawn Michaes hater. Even ppl who hate him in the biz kno he's the best in-ring performer PERIOD. "...Shawn Michaels, who could have a great match with a couch..."---and thats Jim Cornette talking so if you kno Jimmy well, you kno that is crazy respect
@DUBtheTIGER Truth is that he put himself and Austin in danger by not keeping it on the straight and narrow. That bitch backed out of Wrestlemania 13 because he "lost his smile", if the injury is so bad for 14 why not bitch out like he did the year before?
@rmathew2 because he knew his career was done after the back injury. he had a chance to rest his injured knee and be able to prolong his career but with his back injury that option really didn't exist at the time so why not take a shot of cortisone and give it a go.
@Allistar123 Cortisone .. and a stack of pills from his training bag as well. Wrestlemania is the big show, he should have got through Wrestlemania 13 and dropped the belt to Bret like he was supposed to.
@rmathew2 Nobody has ever said HBK was supposed to drop the belt to Bret at Mania. Mcmahon didn't even want to put the belt back on Bret, which is why he wasn't in the main event. Bret and Shawn would have happened had Shawn's knee were 100%. However, rest assure, the match would of ended in HBK turning heel and keeping the belt. Or HBK keeping the belt on a result of a disqualification. HBK was the absolute best in the world from 96-97. He did plenty of jobs for Bret when Bret began his run.
@Giampietro131 Well Shawn won the belt at WM 12 and did not make it to WM13, so it was less than a year. You say Vince did not want the belt on Bret, but then why did he get the belt at Summerslam? On to your other points, yes HBK jobbed for Bret during his peak run, and no the match at WM13 would have ended with Bret beating Shawn and setting up Survivor Series for Shawn to win it back.
@rmathew2 The belt was put back on Bret at Summerslam because Bret agreed to a huge contract with the WWF at that time. Obviously Mcmahon wanted out of the contract not too long afterwards, and we know the rest. It would make no sense at all to have HBK, who was in his prime, beat Bret Hart at WM12 and having the torch passed onto him, only to come next WM and lose to Bret. It would be silly. And Shawn was never asked to do a job to Bret. When Bret became champ in 1992, HBK jobbed to him plenty,
@Giampietro131 He had the same "huge" contract at WM13, why not have Bret win the title there instead of Summerslam? What about the timing of Shawn losing his smile? At WM14, Shawn risked permanent injury with his back but still went ahead, at WM13 he lost his smile and a minor knee injury or something and he backs out?
@Giampietro131 You HBK backers need to put 2 and 2 together. Bret eventually gets the belt 3 months later, Shawn pulls out with a hokey injury, is it not possible HBGay got word that he may have to possibly drop to Bret?
@rmathew2 Wasn't going to happen. The only reason Bret was given the title back was because the company couldn't have Sid as the face for a full year. HBK wouldn't of lost at Wrestlemania 13, had he gone against Bret or anybody else for that matter.
And HBK has gotten more twat than anybody can imagine. Insecure men are envious of his character back then because all the broads went nuts over him. Stop judging a gimmick.
@Giampietro131 The beating in Syracuse was well deserved and I hope it taught him a lesson. Taker had the belt after WM, so I dont know why you are saying Sid. How do you answer the timing of Shawn suddenly missing a WM because he lost his smile?
@rmathew2 He 'lost his smile' almost 2 months before Wrestlemania. And he didn't wrestle again until June. It's not like he took a month off. Could it not be possible he wasn't lying about his injured knee? You can't prove anything, nor can I. It's all assumptions. However, it's known Michaels essentially has plastic knees, so maybe, just maybe, he wasn't 'faking'. And yea, taker did win the belt after Mania. And held it until Summerslam. But before that, Sid was the champion from Nov-Jan,...
@rmathew2 ..then from Feb- until Mania. Bret left the WWE once HBK beat him at WM12 for a while, to Vince Mcmahon's dislike. He came back at Survivor Series 96' to face SCSA. Vince even had Bret win the title vacated by HBK during a 4-way contest against Taker, Vader, and Sid. Why didn't Vince keep the title on Bret until Mania? Hmm... Because Bret already headline 3 Mania's as champion. It was time for newer blood to leave the grandest stage as the champ. So, Bret lost to Sid just a week later.
@Giampietro131 You dont make alot of sense, and you seem to be very uninformed about that time period. Vince got rid of Bret because of his contract. If Bret had been making less money, he would not have been kicked out by Vince. Your other comment about "passing the torch" is just stupid, Bret and Shawn had a great rivalry and Bret beating Shawn starts it up again.
@rmathew2 My time period seems dead on accurate. And nobody is disputing the amount of money Bret was making, so I have no idea why your talking about that. Oh, and yes, passing the torch. You must not understand what this means. It's not too much of a complex term. Here's an easier one for you,.. let me dumb it down. You ever hear "this town ain't big enough for the both of us"? Vince had the option to pay Bret, and keep him. Why didn't he? B.c Shawn was tailor made for the upcoming era. Bret..
@rmathew2 .. was old news. While I believe Bret is without a doubt one of the best of all time, the WWF made out quite fine without him. Vince had no problem paying Shawn and Austin because they were the future. Back to the original argument. There is no backing other than Bret's word, that HBK was supposed to put him over at WM13. So going back and fourth about that is senseless since Bret is the only person who argues this.
@Giampietro131 Yes there is more evidence than Bret's word. How many WM's has Shawn missed due to injury, backing out around the time booking decisions are made. Vince put together the Hart foundation again in 1997 and started the anti USA gimmick, trying to build him as a heel. Vince put the belt on Bret months after Wrestlemania. Also look at the crap main event that turned out at WM13, who do you think was going to main event WM if Shawn had not backed out?
@rmathew2 lol. Unless your a former WWE creative writer, you have no idea what the plan was for WM13. So, it's silly for you to say what 'would of happened'. But how stupid would it have been, to have a guy you just passed the torch to just a year prior, job to a guy who's already been at the top, and who was already beaten by the new 'leader of the generation', cleanly in the ring for the title? Pretty stupid. Passing the torch. You obviously don't understand this expression.
@Giampietro131 You make a great point. People insult Shawn by saying he owed Bret a win at WM13, but thats about as counter-productive as a business decision can be. If Vince really had to go to that great of lengths to satisfy Bret's ego, no wonder he let him go. Maybe it wasn't the Kliq holding everybody down. (not to say HBK never did that, but no more than Hart/Hogan/Austin/etc). I like Bret a lot but I've been catching him BS and lie to us A LOT recently and I'm losing respect for him.
@Mile816 All of these lengthy comments, dude try going out in the real world and talking to somebody. My last response of any kind to your comments. Enjoy that gay male love you have for HBGay, kind of sick imo.
@Mile816 Its clear you have no life as you have been tracking down my comments on other videos. As mentioned, your are as intelligent as a chimpanzee and I will therefore not respond to your comments.
Great vid but shame you didn't leave Michaels mic time "start the stepping and hit the bricks Macmahon and don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out!"
NO HE DID NOT MISS THE WHOLE attitude era. He was the face of WWE during the initial years of Attitude, when in 96-97 , WCW , thanks to nWo , totally beat wwe in the ratings for 84 weeks in a row.
but then with michaels gone, austin and mr mcmahon feuding at the helm, wwe regained the top. get your facts right.
oh and shawn basically started the attitude era.. after everyone had left in late 96 and after people were rebelling against hart for his good guy persona and lack of mic skills.. shawn tokk over the reigns.. for most of 97.. besides the wrestlemania match with hart.. in which hart was a huge reason for its success because he made everyone better (even shawn) austin was still and up and coming midcarder.. same for the rock.. it was michaels that ushered in the attitude era.. not austin or rock
@thaKing0fKings i meant the attutude era in the wwf,, dont you know how to read dumbass.. the nwo started an era basically of its own in wcw.. but as far as wwf.. um not so much
@sayanroy36 dude i already stated a few comments of my own that the atitude era.. was started by WCW.. by exact words were the NWO started an era of its own. And yes the ratings did plummet.. but i think its for multiple reasons. Most male watchers probably prefered a deadman,, or psycho sid,, or someone like bret or another main eventer to have the title or be the top guy. Some didnt like the whole "boytoy" image. Im a guy, and i appreciated his wrestling skills above all.
@sayanroy36 Also most of the big names left in the company, Hall Nash and Jarret mainly, had left for WCW. in 96 the ratings didnt start plummeting till july and michaels had already been champ for a while. I believe thats all about the NWO though. Plus austin was def a midcarder in 96 and he didnt even ge over well with the fans until wrestlemania 13 (we all know that no matter how good your wrestling skills are.. if the fans dont like you.. you dont get a push)
@sayanroy36 And to be honest his pure whoopass image might have never flourished if not for his injury at summerslam 97. plus the WWF didnt start winning full nights until july 98.. and austin was already a big star. Its just not what shawn or austin couldnt or didnt do yet.. it was also how WCW overdid the NWO and drove it right into the ground with the same old story for years.
@sayanroy36 oh and just 2 more things.. based on what bret said about austin.. i have never heard this.. i do believe you though.. its just intriguing to wonder if he could have pulled of the iron man match.. austin.. the same way michaels did.. which i doubt.. austin is fantastic.. but i dont see im out wrestling shawn.. and yes the WWF was getting killed.. but Michaels was still widely popular. I shutter to think if the company would have even existed had Michaels decided to jump ship too.
Perhaps a better statement is that Shawn didn't really WRESTLE in the Attitude era, only right at the very beginning. But he WAS a part of the show-segments, commish, referee et al.
Vince tried to ref the match in order to screw Stone Cold out of winning the WWF Championship from The Rock, but Shawn came out, gave Vince the boot, and replaced him with Mankind.
Who'd ever thought at the time this was happening, Vince and Shawn would wind up wrestling each other at Wrestlemania 7 years later?
he didnt come back cuz he couldnt wrestle, he waited almost two years to even have the surgery to fix his back, and it took a long time to rehab from that i guess eventually he missed it too much
he had a broken back. and its a good thing he didnt comeback, because if he had done then The Rock and Austin would never of had their pushes because HBK was all about HBK.
lol austin was already gettin his push while hbk was there! what are you talking about? and believe me, guys like the rock are way to talented to not get a push!! i don't care how much of a dick hbk was back in the day, with wcw beatin wwf in the ratings mcmahon had to have seen that gem!!
He was never planning on ever coming back. He wanted one more match and he asked HHH if he would do it and so they did at Summerslam and after that they saw he could still wrestle just as good as before and he was offered to come back and he did. Have you seen The Shawn Michaels Story Heartbreak and Triumph?
yeah i think i know more about shawn michaels then u do, i actually own that dvd, what i was saying is if he was able to wrestle in 2002 why wasn't he able to wrestle in 99?? its a shame he wasn't a part of the attitude era, he could have had a bunch of feuds with the rock and even more with austin, to bad he didn't wrestle
And just why do you think you know more than I do? I own that DVD too. If you actually do, you should know the answer to that then. 1. They told him his back was so messed up that he couldnt wrestle anymore 2. '99 his drug problems were even worse. Do you think if they told him in 98 that his back was too messed up to wreslte again that he could do it a year later just fine? I agree though, it is a shame that he missed the attitude era.
okay well he wasn't rehabbing the whole 4 years, if he wanted to he could have wrestled, suxs he didn't, and shawn is my fav wrestler of all time since i was 5, i'm 22 now, i've seen all his matches, i live in cali and was there wrestlemania 12 when i was in 4th grade!!
I also saw an interview of him in 2001 and he said at that point he could wrestle, but he wouldnt be able to be the way he used to be and he didnt want to be one of these old guys that dont put on good matches and do the same moves. Then I saw another one where he says the 2002 match was a one time thing as a last match for him(as he says in Heartbreak and triumph), but he wasnt expecting himself to be good as he was and thats what led him to going back to the WWE.
He's also been my favorite too ever since I was a little kid. I'm gonna be ring side this year at WM26 to see him end the streak. He just had a lot problems and wasnt able to do it. In my opinion though, the back injury and meeting his wife were the best things to ever happen to him. He had serious problems and with being out and having her he was able to fix himself and become a better person.
LOL, if you know a lot about HBK, then how could you not know about how badly screwed up his back was? One year away from wrestling would not have healed it fully to allow him to wrestle in 1999. It took years, multiple surgeries, etc..
oh my god.. his back was broken in early 1998... so he couldnt wrestle for about two years.. by 99 he was still rehabing.. hence the announcer/commissioner storylines.. by 2000 he was pretty well fit to wrestle but at that time he had just had a kid.. was a huge drug addict.. and was trying to convert to religion.. hence why he didnt come back.. vince didnt even want him back until he cleaned up.. by mid 02 he had worked out a contract and storyline with vince to come back.. thats really it
He wasn't a part of attitude era? He made DX,he started the attitude era in 97,how can you say that. But yes,it would be great iof he could had fight the Rock,it would be an heel of a feud, but in 97 early 98,he was the man in WWF and the rock was a mid-carder yet.
u know what i mean, when wwe started gettin the rock over and austin was champ he wasn't there, he couldn't returned maybe in mid to late 99, he was just to busy gettin fucked up
Shawn Michaels is one of my all time favorite wrestlers, but ever since he's come back most recently he keeps getting the shit beat out of him by legacy. I HATE watching Shawn Michaels get beat up!
@j26methead Oh wow dude, big deal, Hogan was WCW champ at 44, Bret Hart finished his career as WCW champ at 44(ish). These two are legends, Shawn became a top guy in 1996 and it ended in 1998. He then became a legend who could still put on a good match, but really how many guys would have to leave before they would make Shawn champ again near the end. Bret Hart had a better career than HBGay
it's a well known fact that he already used drugs before he got hurt....almost the entire WWF roster did....but it didn´t really become a problem and an addiction until after he got hurt.
@TheKliq101 Yeah, all that may be true. But if Shawn Michaels never got hurt in my opinion, and I hate to even say it, he would no longer be here. He would've probably died before he turned 40 because of the drugs he use to do.
@TheKliq101 He was so bad into drugs and painkillers, that I think if Shawn hadn't gone away and made all of those life changes, I wonder if he would even be alive today. He was pretty bad off into painkillers for a long time. His story is truly an inspiration.
he was the commisioner at the time. vince mcmahon was the special guest ref for the rock and stone cold championship match. hbk took vince out and put a reg ref in
yes it is rare but damit why would u but it up if u not going to show the segment damit no one want to just an entrance 5/5 for the video and for u 0/0
too bad at times WWe dont get eruptions like this that much cuz of all the mess they have on raw with John L in charge..

(not to say HBK never did that, but no more than Hart/Hogan/Austin/etc). I like Bret a lot but I've been catching him BS and lie to us A LOT recently and I'm losing respect for him.

Funkykidz09 1 year ago
@Funkykidz09
NO HE DID NOT MISS THE WHOLE attitude era. He was the face of WWE during the initial years of Attitude, when in 96-97 , WCW , thanks to nWo , totally beat wwe in the ratings for 84 weeks in a row.
but then with michaels gone, austin and mr mcmahon feuding at the helm, wwe regained the top. get your facts right.

lol 0:39 I have to poop
Re4wii2008 1 year ago
oh and shawn basically started the attitude era.. after everyone had left in late 96 and after people were rebelling against hart for his good guy persona and lack of mic skills.. shawn tokk over the reigns.. for most of 97.. besides the wrestlemania match with hart.. in which hart was a huge reason for its success because he made everyone better (even shawn) austin was still and up and coming midcarder.. same for the rock.. it was michaels that ushered in the attitude era.. not austin or rock
purplepurp07 1 year ago 5
no. it was the nWo.
thaKing0fKings 1 year ago
@thaKing0fKings i meant the attutude era in the wwf,, dont you know how to read dumbass.. the nwo started an era basically of its own in wcw.. but as far as wwf.. um not so much
purplepurp07 1 year ago
@purplepurp07
austin was already the "best wrestler alive today" (as bret said) by 96.
Michaels was the face of 96-97 attitude, no doubt, but austin was far from an "up an coming midcarder in 97" lol
and no one ushered the attitude era more than bischoff, hollywood hogan, scott hall and kevin nash...with the ascendant nWo things just fell in place.
not to mention wwe got its ass beat for 84 weeks, with shawn as the face of aTTITUDE.
sayanroy36 1 year ago
@sayanroy36 dude i already stated a few comments of my own that the atitude era.. was started by WCW.. by exact words were the NWO started an era of its own. And yes the ratings did plummet.. but i think its for multiple reasons. Most male watchers probably prefered a deadman,, or psycho sid,, or someone like bret or another main eventer to have the title or be the top guy. Some didnt like the whole "boytoy" image. Im a guy, and i appreciated his wrestling skills above all.
purplepurp07 1 year ago
@sayanroy36 Also most of the big names left in the company, Hall Nash and Jarret mainly, had left for WCW. in 96 the ratings didnt start plummeting till july and michaels had already been champ for a while. I believe thats all about the NWO though. Plus austin was def a midcarder in 96 and he didnt even ge over well with the fans until wrestlemania 13 (we all know that no matter how good your wrestling skills are.. if the fans dont like you.. you dont get a push)
purplepurp07 1 year ago
@sayanroy36 And to be honest his pure whoopass image might have never flourished if not for his injury at summerslam 97. plus the WWF didnt start winning full nights until july 98.. and austin was already a big star. Its just not what shawn or austin couldnt or didnt do yet.. it was also how WCW overdid the NWO and drove it right into the ground with the same old story for years.
purplepurp07 1 year ago

Who'd ever thought at the time this was happening, Vince and Shawn would wind up wrestling each other at Wrestlemania 7 years later?

he didnt come back cuz he couldnt wrestle, he waited almost two years to even have the surgery to fix his back, and it took a long time to rehab from that i guess eventually he missed it too much

i wonder why shawn waited 4 years to come back??? wtf!!!! 98-2002 were his prime years!! damn

he had a broken back. and its a good thing he didnt comeback, because if he had done then The Rock and Austin would never of had their pushes because HBK was all about HBK.

He was never planning on ever coming back. He wanted one more match and he asked HHH if he would do it and so they did at Summerslam and after that they saw he could still wrestle just as good as before and he was offered to come back and he did. Have you seen The Shawn Michaels Story Heartbreak and Triumph?
Jasonxknot 1 year ago
yeah i think i know more about shawn michaels then u do, i actually own that dvd, what i was saying is if he was able to wrestle in 2002 why wasn't he able to wrestle in 99?? its a shame he wasn't a part of the attitude era, he could have had a bunch of feuds with the rock and even more with austin, to bad he didn't wrestle
nickloks 1 year ago
And just why do you think you know more than I do? I own that DVD too. If you actually do, you should know the answer to that then. 1. They told him his back was so messed up that he couldnt wrestle anymore 2. '99 his drug problems were even worse. Do you think if they told him in 98 that his back was too messed up to wreslte again that he could do it a year later just fine? I agree though, it is a shame that he missed the attitude era.
Jasonxknot 1 year ago
okay well he wasn't rehabbing the whole 4 years, if he wanted to he could have wrestled, suxs he didn't, and shawn is my fav wrestler of all time since i was 5, i'm 22 now, i've seen all his matches, i live in cali and was there wrestlemania 12 when i was in 4th grade!!
nickloks 1 year ago
I also saw an interview of him in 2001 and he said at that point he could wrestle, but he wouldnt be able to be the way he used to be and he didnt want to be one of these old guys that dont put on good matches and do the same moves. Then I saw another one where he says the 2002 match was a one time thing as a last match for him(as he says in Heartbreak and triumph), but he wasnt expecting himself to be good as he was and thats what led him to going back to the WWE.
Jasonxknot 1 year ago
all im saying is if he wrestles today so good, such a performer nowadays im sure he could have dont it through the attitude era
nickloks 1 year ago
He's also been my favorite too ever since I was a little kid. I'm gonna be ring side this year at WM26 to see him end the streak. He just had a lot problems and wasnt able to do it. In my opinion though, the back injury and meeting his wife were the best things to ever happen to him. He had serious problems and with being out and having her he was able to fix himself and become a better person.
Jasonxknot 1 year ago
@nickloks
LOL, if you know a lot about HBK, then how could you not know about how badly screwed up his back was? One year away from wrestling would not have healed it fully to allow him to wrestle in 1999. It took years, multiple surgeries, etc..
RyanIsOffended 1 year ago
@RyanIsOffended no he wasn't rehabbing for 4 years you idiot!!! he could have returned earlier if he really wanted to
nickloks 1 year ago
oh my god.. his back was broken in early 1998... so he couldnt wrestle for about two years.. by 99 he was still rehabing.. hence the announcer/commissioner storylines.. by 2000 he was pretty well fit to wrestle but at that time he had just had a kid.. was a huge drug addict.. and was trying to convert to religion.. hence why he didnt come back.. vince didnt even want him back until he cleaned up.. by mid 02 he had worked out a contract and storyline with vince to come back.. thats really it
purplepurp07 1 year ago
He wasn't a part of attitude era? He made DX,he started the attitude era in 97,how can you say that. But yes,it would be great iof he could had fight the Rock,it would be an heel of a feud, but in 97 early 98,he was the man in WWF and the rock was a mid-carder yet.
thesherife 1 year ago
u know what i mean, when wwe started gettin the rock over and austin was champ he wasn't there, he couldn't returned maybe in mid to late 99, he was just to busy gettin fucked up

it just lengthened his career :). Not many ppl know Shawn turned 44 this past July
j26methead 2 years ago 10
@j26methead Oh wow dude, big deal, Hogan was WCW champ at 44, Bret Hart finished his career as WCW champ at 44(ish). These two are legends, Shawn became a top guy in 1996 and it ended in 1998. He then became a legend who could still put on a good match, but really how many guys would have to leave before they would make Shawn champ again near the end. Bret Hart had a better career than HBGay

it's a well known fact that he already used drugs before he got hurt....almost the entire WWF roster did....but it didn´t really become a problem and an addiction until after he got hurt.
portugahbk 1 year ago
@TheKliq101 Yeah, all that may be true. But if Shawn Michaels never got hurt in my opinion, and I hate to even say it, he would no longer be here. He would've probably died before he turned 40 because of the drugs he use to do.
ChosenOne7685 1 year ago
@TheKliq101 Shawn was on drugs at the time,so he used that time to get clean.
ywall2breakerj 1 year ago
@TheKliq101 He was so bad into drugs and painkillers, that I think if Shawn hadn't gone away and made all of those life changes, I wonder if he would even be alive today. He was pretty bad off into painkillers for a long time. His story is truly an inspiration.
