I don't understand these people. Why the hell would you compare an smartphone that has a 1 Ghz app processor with another one that has an 600 mhz app processor? I mean, come on guys, it's a HUGE difference. It would be more wise to compare different operating systems on the same hardware or at least the same frequencies of the hardware.

I have Nokia N8, only problem with it is that Internet is SUPER LAGGY, youtube webside is all weird as it shows in this video, and for some reason youtube videos are in horrible quality (it's hard to see on video, but in real life you'll see it).

@jasbullanguero yes, mate.. thats the advantage of having a symbian device.. the availabiltyof free/cracked apps is good.. use opera mobile browser for N8.. it blows away the default nokia browser. You wont use the default browser once u install Opera on ur N8 ;)
android os is faster than symbian and it has more features than symbian.. in case of hardware nokia beats galaxy s in camera and build quality.... but galaxy s has 1ghz processor, super amoled screen, better touch screen... i will go with galaxy s...

that nokia phone is a joke compared to a flagship phone like the Samsung Galaxy S. The screen is way too small on the nokia, and the android phone is running circles around anything else out there. Just the flash support alone, is quite different on these two devices. This wasn't even close. Galaxy was clearly the superior device here.

N8 is cheaper because it has lower resolution display, a 680 Mhz processor, lesser RAM and ROM and it DOES NOT provide a market to die for. Galaxy S wins this easily.

Thank you for this brilliant 4 part review, it was very helpful. It's unlikely I will now get an N8 - I'm disappointed at how the UI and web browser has not moved on much from the N95.
They are both exceptionally nice smartphones. I was a bit sceptical when I bought my N8 but I have to say I love it, LOVE IT! There are definitely some issues in web-browsing in N8 and galaxy is better on that area. However that is a fixable issue. N8's design and hardware are better than Samsungs. If I have to recommend the best all around phone which can do everything adequatelly I would go for N8. If somebody is mainly interested in web-browsing I would go for Samsung.

You fail, with Google map 5.0, don't need data map online, can use data map offline, don't need money charge for map data. Google map 5, faster, smoother, and greater... GalaxyS can out HDMI port.

I hope the other mobile phone brands makes the same step... It's really cool when they compete with each other producing better and better stuffs to choose from.
@VNDDT08 good for you in the netherlands, here in manila the galaxy S is around 30,000 pesos while the N8 is only around 20,000 pesos. Also the cheapest non-china brand phones around here is the Nokia, like you can buy a basic call and sms phone for only around 1,200 pesos or around 20 euros - they sell like pancakes! Other china-brand phones like those that includes features such as TV, multiple sim card slots...you name it they got it all under one cellphone unit at a low price, nyahahaha!
@LakanDemonio What's the point of having free maps if they're outdated ( I think you drive to unfamiliar places because of the maps on the Nokia). I think the galaxy S is worth the extra price because of the faster cpu better and bigger screen more apps and a better os (except for the battery life). I do admire the supirior camera of the Nokia N8 and the USB feature though.
@smartydix i can give you one instantly, battery life dropping to 1 day like all other phones on the market which is shit for the price it will cost (and the price androids sell for atm).

Choosing a device depends on your needs... I use my cellphones primarily to make calls&sms, and with nokia's free Ovi Maps and navigation to find my location. While I prefer to use my computer with a larger monitor & a thousand times better processor than galaxy for browsing the internet and other multimedia functions.

All in all the N8 is better just the browser is very bad but you can download opera mobile on it and than the nokia browses faster than befor so I would buy the N8 in the end. But if you want to I think nokia will release the n9 running on meego next year this will be even better... ;)
Samsung is by far the best in the market right now. I've owned plenty of nokia phones ranging from the classic 3310 to the X6 16 GB and towards the end nokia's done nothing but let me down. There's always something wrong with it and the customer service... i'd rather be sucked into a worm hole. A year back i brought the samsung jet and i must say its really good. My next one will most definitely be the galaxy s or later. As an overall package the galaxy's pretty neat.

android os is faster than symbian and it has more features than symbian.. in case of hardware nokia beats galaxy s in camera and build quality.... but galaxy s has 1ghz processor, super amoled screen, better touch screen... i will go with galaxy s...

that nokia phone is a joke compared to a flagship phone like the Samsung Galaxy S. The screen is way too small on the nokia, and the android phone is running circles around anything else out there. Just the flash support alone, is quite different on these two devices. This wasn't even close. Galaxy was clearly the superior device here.

N8 is cheaper because it has lower resolution display, a 680 Mhz processor, lesser RAM and ROM and it DOES NOT provide a market to die for. Galaxy S wins this easily.

They are both exceptionally nice smartphones. I was a bit sceptical when I bought my N8 but I have to say I love it, LOVE IT! There are definitely some issues in web-browsing in N8 and galaxy is better on that area. However that is a fixable issue. N8's design and hardware are better than Samsungs. If I have to recommend the best all around phone which can do everything adequatelly I would go for N8. If somebody is mainly interested in web-browsing I would go for Samsung.

→ disadvantage: unit is too expensive, you've also got to pay for GPS (like an open wound bleeding out your money as you navigate)
►Nokia N8
→ advantage: costs only 2/3 the price of Samsung Galaxy S, lifetime FREE GPS Service. Not so bad OS for its price. Excellent Camera and HDMI port.
→ disadvantage: Slower user interface/OS/ Processor
I drive too often to unfamiliar places, so I'll go for Nokia!

@VNDDT08 good for you in the netherlands, here in manila the galaxy S is around 30,000 pesos while the N8 is only around 20,000 pesos. Also the cheapest non-china brand phones around here is the Nokia, like you can buy a basic call and sms phone for only around 1,200 pesos or around 20 euros - they sell like pancakes! Other china-brand phones like those that includes features such as TV, multiple sim card slots...you name it they got it all under one cellphone unit at a low price, nyahahaha!

@LakanDemonio What's the point of having free maps if they're outdated ( I think you drive to unfamiliar places because of the maps on the Nokia). I think the galaxy S is worth the extra price because of the faster cpu better and bigger screen more apps and a better os (except for the battery life). I do admire the supirior camera of the Nokia N8 and the USB feature though.

Samsung has a better screen resolution, better colours, but the battery sucks- just 1 day, vs 2 days at Nokia N8. Finally, I have decised: I will buy a Nokia N8

@9322002898 yes now its the same here in Manila, I wonder why Samsung suddenly drops the price from Php 35,000 to only about Php 22,000, this now matches the price of the N8.
Choosing a device depends on your needs... I use my cellphones primarily to make calls&sms, and with nokia's free Ovi Maps and navigation to find my location. While I prefer to use my computer with a larger monitor & a thousand times better processor than galaxy for browsing the internet and other multimedia functions.

All in all the N8 is better just the browser is very bad but you can download opera mobile on it and than the nokia browses faster than befor so I would buy the N8 in the end. But if you want to I think nokia will release the n9 running on meego next year this will be even better... ;)

Samsung is by far the best in the market right now. I've owned plenty of nokia phones ranging from the classic 3310 to the X6 16 GB and towards the end nokia's done nothing but let me down. There's always something wrong with it and the customer service... i'd rather be sucked into a worm hole. A year back i brought the samsung jet and i must say its really good. My next one will most definitely be the galaxy s or later. As an overall package the galaxy's pretty neat.

@bomi1952 the nokia n8 still has the old s60 browser, which was developed for the nokia 5800 and n97, but no wonder they are working on a new browser, which will be available in the first symbian 3 update, other than that i see no weak point for such a small processor device, remember the galaxy doubles n8 in hardware!!!
