Thats a brilliant idea, I've been dissapointed with the last three films because the books get longer so the films cut more out and I've read the books and i was annoyed that some of my favourite bits from the books didn't get into the films. I think as a TV show would be a really good idea

@Barneystudioz perhaps not a huge issue to some, but as a fan of the books i was very displeased that they left out the part in "Deathly Hallows" where Dudley says to Harry, "I don't think you're a waste of space", and actually seems to thank him for saving him from the dementors. that part of the story spoke VOLUMES to me when reading the book. it showed that Dudley had real character. WHY did they leave that little part out??? wouldn't have taken any time at all to keep it in! IDIOTS!

To be fair on the American editors, Sorcerer's Stone sounds just as interesting as Philosopher's Stone if you think about it. And what's funnier - a stoned sorcerer or a stoned philosopher? I know what I'd choose ;)

It is not just a british word they just renamed it because they didnt think american people would buy a book with the word philosopher on it so they changed it to something more 'magical'. Even though Nicholas Flamel was much more tham just a 'sorcerer'

Yeah i agree I don't think anything should have been changed at all; it's a British book and it should stay that way - the Englishness is part of it's allure. I'm sure Americans know for example that football means soccer and that holiday means vacation. Or if they didnt, they can work it out just like everybody else does when reading an american book.

As much as I understand why you British get pissed off that the title was changed for us Americans, you've got to understand that this "Philosopher's Stone" legend is not told or heard of in America.

No, philosopher is not JUST a British word and it is used in America too. I don't know why it was changed to 'Sorcerer' but that wasn't us, the readers, who changed it.

It was apparently because either J.K, or the publisher figured American kids wouldn't be interested in a book with the word Philosopher in it. Who would want to read a book about the study of general problems concerning matters such as existence, knowledge, truth, beauty, law, justice, validity, mind, and language? The title dosn't say "Book about a wizard fighting a dark lord and a Philosopher dosn't even appear, it's just a name of a legendary object? It's weird, but that's books for ya.
